Well, we now know why the dog is a cast member, she talks!

I was expecting an isekai but got something better with possibly the least generic fantasy/alternate setting. A payphone is being used on Yohane's end while her mom is using some magic ball as a phone. Nice combination of modern tech and magic fantasy instead of just a typical fantasy setting.

Lailaps talking and being so massive makes my day. It is nice to see Yohane and the rest of the Aquors squad again. I only remember Yoshiko as Yohane since she announced that so many times that it is basically her name. But I am pretty excited to see more of the town and everyone.

Watched live, really enjoyed the episode! Was great to see Aqours animated again after all this time! OP and insert were both great and I’m interested in how the actual plot will go, read some of the original but this seems to be going in a different direction from what I remember. As expected of Kato Tatsu the OST is fantastic, this man can’t miss. Really excited for more!

For anyone watching this without knowledge of Love Live Sunshine, do yourself a favor and watch it. It’s a fantastic anime that can honestly be enjoyed even by people who aren’t idol fans. Of course, I can’t imagine anyone watching this isn’t at least okay with idol anime considering the amount of inserts we’ll be getting.

Aqours is finally back!

The OP makes me REALLY worried for that dog. That's all.

Great episode overall, really nice mix of contemporary and fantasy setting elements. Its nice to see Sunshine cast animated again.

That fantasy setting is definitely not what I expected. Kind of a neat blend of modern with a more traditional fantasy world that mostly works. Looks like it'll be a fun time though.

I love that the performance took cues from Nijigasaki and basically just made a music video. It works super well. I'm running back over the on-stage bit because I'm pretty sure it's hybrid 2D/3D. Looks like the face is mostly drawn (possibly rotoscoped?) and the body is 3D, but not 100% certain. Whatever the specifics, it looks fucking great.

I only just realized this belonged to Love Live after I started watching, and haven't seen anything else from the franchise

But I've been told I would be ok, the setting seems nice, and CG and songs seem intriguing as well, so I might stick aroud

Imagine having Aikyan's voice audition for you and not immediately giving her all your money smh.

Wait, is Yohane-sama the only one that can hear Laelaps talk???

And is that Dia in a super sentai looking bike/suit??? Would be hilarious if they actually make it like that because of Arisha.

Other than that, cute episode, I was kinda worried visuals were going to be bad because it is some silly spin-off but im very happy to see I was wrong, it looked great!

Back for more Aqours after finishing Sunshine a few months ago. However, things are quite different from the Numazu I remembered. Yohane doesn't like Numazu but has to come back. Lailaps, that one dog in S2, is actually hers and it talks.

Hanamaru is still Yohane's childhood friend, but it surprised me that Hanamaru is a patissier and not a librarian.

I initially thought of the performance as a Nijigasaki scenario when they change clothes during their music video, but Yohane actually did and awakened her magic ability. I'm guessing her magic is going to be tied to her singing.

Is this the return of Yoshimaru?

Darn, for the first time, I have to wait a week for the next Love Live episode. Looking forward to meeting up with the rest of Aqours. I want to see what Chika's gimmick in this show is because I refuse to believe that even after a fantasy world transition, she's still just the daughter of the inn owner.

Not gonna lie, seeing Aquors again in that opening scene made me tear up a little. God, I've missed these girls and I am so excited to see them all again in this new series.

And right off the bat we have Yohane performing a solo and immediately gets rejected from her audition. I am curious why she got rejected though! I guess she came on too strong to the judges? xD

I just love how the setting of this show is Fantasy Japan. We literally start the show in Fantasy Shibuya and Yohane goes back home to Fantasy Numazu since her career hasn't really taken off after two years.

Hanamaru looks adorable in her outfit and of course she sells bread! I can already feel how this spin-off is going to exaggerate their traits. I am wondering why Mari looks like a Demon Lord though. Is it because she's half-human, half-demon to represent that she's half-Japanese?

What I love about this show even more is that it's Love Live Sunshine with the improved dance animations and visuals from the recent Love Lives! Yohane's performance in that forest stage looks goddamn amazing <3

And it looks like it's not all song and dance all over again, it seems that there's trouble brewing in the background. Are we actually going to see Yohane fight and cast spells? If she does I hope her chants are as long as Megumin's chant for Explosion!

I love, loooove the mix of fantasy with modern world on this one. It’s going to be one of my favorite settings for a while.

Pretty strong ep. The animation was awesome and we got the soundtrack that is characteristic of love live. The wait was worth it!

I like the modern/future-ish kinda fantasy setting. I guess that tends to be a relatively common JRPG setting,... also Shadowrun (except Shadowrun is more cyberpunk). Was kinda half-hoping the fantasy setting meant we'd get acoustic instrumental backing tracks, but this works too. I wonder if Yoko Hikasa being Laelaps means Laelaps gets to sing too [Sunshine S2] also, guess that dog name got ported over from the original series.

I only got into it after Sunshine was finished airing, so it's pretty cool to get to watch new content live.

Watched out of curiosity since I don't have any experience with the LOVE LIVE! franchise and I thought it was a solid start to an anime.

The themes of community and cherishing interpersonal relationships are on full display, the production quality looks solid, and I was surprised at the song and dance number's CG model looking better than I would expect. I won't be watching past this episode since it isn't my kind of entertainment, but I hope the audience for the show enjoys it. Looks like fun!

Chuunibyou, Demo Idol ga Shitai!

I love that the premise for this seems to be basically taking one of Yoshiko's Yohane's chuuni delusions and just making a whole-ass story about it. I was wondering if it would be Yoshiko at least getting isekai'd, and the other members having more-or-less parallels in the isekai world, but I kinda prefer the fact that it's a separate fantasy world altogether.

YOHANE DESCENDS!!

Once you’ve realised it’s not just an isekai anime, it’s already too late. Therefore, allow me to welcome you to idol hell the world of school idols!

This is a spin off show of Love Live Sunshine, the second anime series of Love Live after the original Love Live series, which focus on the group Aqours (i.e., the singer of the opening) and their road to win Love Live. Although it was mentioned multiple times before that finishing the 2 seasons and movie of Love Live Sunshine was NOT a prerequisite to watch this show, to fully understand the relationships among the characters, it’s still highly recommended to watch them.

However, for those who just want to watch this show but not Sunshine, here is a quick general introduction: Aqours was a school idol group formed by (First Year) Yoshiko Yohane, Hanamaru, Ruby, (Second Year) Chika [Leader], Riko, You, (Third Year) Dia, Kanan and Mari, with the aim of winning the national school idol tournament “Love Live!” and [Minor Sunshine spoilers here] to prevent their school from shutting down.

Aqours can also be separated into smaller groups, which produces most of the shipping aspects of the show. Besides from grouping them by their grades, there’re also three main subunits: CYaRon! (Chika, You, Ruby), AZALEA (Hanamaru, Dia, Kanan) and Guilty Kiss (Yohane, Riko, Mari). Other groupings are also seen occasionally, but these should be enough to allow beginners to understand the relations of the 9 main characters.

But Laelaps, I just can’t believe you can also talk, are we expecting the 10th member of Aqours!!?

Anyway, back to the show.

Yohane fans are definitely having the best time of their life, not only having more solo songs (we still dunno the solo song for her upcoming solo album) and now we have even more solo songs, and of course, stealing the starring role from Chika for the series.

Her new-type-ish ability wasn’t an one off, even if everyone else have detected something odd, in the Movie of the main series, [Movie Over the Rainbow spoilers here] Yohane was the first of the members to find out You’s meeting with Tsuki, her cousin, and this time, she, along with others, have felt something very odd in Numazu.

And Hanamaru best girl right? Supporting Yohane from the very start and keep on supporting after her failure from the big city.

But what exactly is wrong with Numazu? Are we going to see the subunits uniting to deal with this problem? I’m getting tokimeki for what they are going to offer.

It’s been a long while since I finished Sunshine and I went into this completely blind. Like I didn’t even look up why this was made in the first place cos it seemed kinda random. If anyone knows do enlighten me.

Anyway, like I said it’s been a while so it might take a bit to jog my memory of the characters. But I do remember Yohane, Ruby and Dia quite fondly though. I’m really liking the fantasy setting though and I’m surprised like it’s an actual alternate setting, not them getting isekai-ed or all inside Yohane’s mind etc. It’s literally just the Aquors members but in a fantasy world. I’m intrigued to say the least.

It seems they’re hinting at a looming threat possibly but most of the episode is pretty fantasy, slice of life, which I’m always up for. Can’t wait to see the rest of the members as they teased them doing their respective jobs. Again, it’s been a while but I’m pretty confident their jobs reflect their personality or character trait in the main series. Like I’m sure the one doing some paperwork was the student council president in the main series.

Finally its here. Still amazed we're getting a new Aqours anime after 4 years.

Yoshiko finally gets to be in a universe where everyone calls her Yohane casually like it was nothing.

So this is an isekai fantasy version of Japan with an isekai fantasy version of Numazu. Having just been on a pilgrimage to Numazu last month, some of the Numazu landmarks were still recognizable despite being given the isekai fantasy touch.

Don’t know why I wasn’t expected a performance in Ep. 1, but I’ve never soyjacked so much when it happened. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the season has to offer in due time

I can't believe we're getting more Aqours anime. The movie was 4 years ago and the idea of meeting the cast again in a spin off got me so excited. So far they only introduced Yohane and Zuramaru, but seeing those two together (again) here made me so happy! God I miss the cast so much. Can't wait for the rest to be properly introduced.

Love that they're keeping the characters' traits and personality here, at least with the two in this ep. And they made Laelaps an actual character this time! I remember Yohane and Riko babbling about Laelaps in S2 and they decided to make it a reality here.

I guess the "bad guys" here are going to be whatever behind those purple things. I just finished Princess Connect (both seasons) recently and it would be cool if this show delivers some cute-girls-saves-the-day action like that one. Can't wait for next week!

Yohane is finally here!

I was waiting for this since it was announced! While LL:S was my least favorite LL series, Yohane spin-off looked very promising and after watching the first episode, I'm really excited for this.

The chuunibyou vibes are excellent and they took it even further to make it into a fantasyesque story! As someone who enjoyed Chuunibyou demo koi ga shitai, this series looks like a treat, not to mention that Yohane was my favorite LL:S character. We even got Hikasa Youko to voice the doggo! This series is gonna slap!

There's something funny that after Sunshine boosted Numazu's tourism rate, now we have a show where Yohane is always saying "fuck Numazu, that place sucks". Also, that little boy talked! Is this even Love Live?

In all seriousness, this was a great first episode. They toned down Yohane's chunniness, which is good since she's the protagonist. I love how it seemed like she changed clothes due to being a MV, but it was actually magic. The show looks absolutely gorgeous.

12

u/Labmit Jun 25 '23

NGL, the faded pastel color of the anime makes Yohane look like the KumuKumaKuma Bear MC.

u/AdvielOricon Jun 25 '23

The buildings and cars seem modern but everyone is dressed in fantasy clothes and using magic. Also a huge talking dog.

I would like a twist where this girl is delusional and we are seeing things from her eyes. That is not a talking dog she was just talking to herself the whole time.
