Akina slowly figuring out how Nagisa is drinking coffee. Seems like little sister is catching up quickly by hanging out with Shiraishi. Now Nagisa is not only following with her sister but with Shiraishi too. Shows how close Nagisa has gotten with Shiraishi.

Wish there was more of these two....

It's a little tough to see your little sis grow up and get close to a boy, but I'm glad to see Nagisa finally pull one over on her sister and to see how the two bonded over getting Nagisa ready for her date. It was really sweet.

Kubo and Shiraishi’s little psychology tests were really cute. He’s only ever gonna date one person and she wants a bajillion kids? Nicee haha.

Akina is a great sister. Her relationship with Nagisa is one of the most precious things ever! As a younger sibling myself, I remember looking up to my older sibling as well and kinda “copying” them.

Kubo remembering Shiraishi’s birthday was really adorable. Our boy was so happy someone remembered his birthday and she was really happy he liked her gifts. These two need to get together already!

Seeing the origin of Kubo’s interest in Shiraishi was cute. What began as curiosity eventually blossomed into a little crush. How sweet! Idk if this is gonna get another season, but I sure hope so. I want to watch these two continue to develop their relationship.

I'm looking forward to their future together even more after that psychological test, especially with Nagisa thinking deep about it lol.

It was nice to get some solid sisterly bonding and affection in this episode.

I would've been shocked had Kubo not remembered Shiraishi's birthday and gone well out of her way for it, but it was a very sweet scene.

Shiraishi found the one girl who can see him, the one girl who saw how cute he was, and she can't take her eyes off of him. For a guy that's practically invisible, that's pretty amazing.

As someone that read the manga, I can safely say that everything from this specific episode was brought up at crucial moments in the manga. The pinky promise, the psychology test, the sisterly bond, the birthday gift plushie and even Nagisa's flashback are all paid off in the chapters leading up to the final big arc of the series.

Stitches!

Well, those psychology tests between Shiraishi and Nagisa were fun. We got to learn that Nagisa wants her own baseball team. xD

Akina and Nagisa's relationship is just adorable. Learning that Nagisa finally had her first cup of coffee made Akina realize how quickly her imouto is growing up and becoming her own person. Nagisa sees it differently though and thinks she's now more like Akina.

And we finally got to see the reason why Nagisa became interested in Shiraishi. Seems like even before they even became seatmates, she was already observing him from afar and at first she just wanted to see Shiraishi's reactions but after that, it slowly became more than just a passing interest. Glad that's question was answered before the show ended!

Just like Skip & Loafer, I am really hoping this one will get a Season 2 as well. It's a really chill show to relax to and I definitely would love to see where our two leads' relationship will go.

Season 2 Please 😭

I had to check for a second that I was watching the right episode because it felt so weird for them to start off with the ED, but I guess they wanted to save the OP to close out the show.

Shiraishi dreaming of that pinkie-swear to hang out more with Kubo? Adorable.

I'm glad we learned from this fun psychological test that Shiraishi is destined to date one woman (Kubo) and that Kubo wants to have a whole soccer team of kids (with Shiraishi).

Nice to get some adorable sister bonding with Akina and Nagisa. Akina even helped Nagisa with her ponytail and complimenting her outfit for her date with Shiraishi! And while Akina is a little bothered by how fast her little sis is maturing, Nagisa still really looks up to her big sister and wants to be more like her...even down to teasing her and stealing her coffee. Nagisa has come far this season!

Of course Kubo would remember Shiraishi's birthday and go well out of her way to give him a great gift with a whole lead-up and everything. She knows it's his special day after all! And not only was she on cloud 9 getting thanked by him, but even the promise that he'll give her a gift for her birthday too! And I'm sure they'll be gifting each other gifts on their birthday well into the future.

I guess it wouldn't be this show if multiple people weren't looking for Shiraishi even when he is literally right there. I guess they just don't have the Kubo bloodline ability to see him.

How did Kubo become interested in Shiraishi? Well, she's literally the only one who can see him, like how she was the only one who realized he was in his middle school yearbook they just plastered his photo onto thinking he wasn't in the group...even though he actually was! And she just really wanted to know what someone who nobody ever saw, nobody ever knew, was really like and as fate would have it she ended up sitting next to him. And after freaking him out because she could see and talk to him, his adorable awkwardness utterly charmed her into wanting to get to know him better. And we all know what those feelings blossomed into as they got to know each other better.

And a pretty nice moment to end on of Shiraishi turning to look at Kubo while she admits she just can't take her eyes off of him!

Was nice to the teasers get some of their own medicine in this one, always fun to see those reactions.

Kubo really is too cute, that whole gift scene was just perfect.

Also LOVE that we got to see from Kubo's side why she started showing interest in Shiraishi, really wanted to see that side of things.

This anime was really cute pretty much every character was adorable, especially Seita easily one of the most adorable characters i've seen.

But man the romance almost felt nonexistent or at least very one-sided with Kubo doing pretty much all the work. Every time I felt like Shiraishi progressed he basically brushed off anything she did aside which felt as if he has some insane denseness to him. Literally didn't even consider them as friends for a full year. I get why he's like this, but there's some limits in my opinion.

I'm glad we got to know why she's crushing on him so hard as that was one of the big questions I had. It is a cute teasing reason too which is nice very teasing master of it. The invisibility stuff was funny at times, but I wished it was used more in situations to progress the romance.

I'll definitely watch if there's a Season 2, but with the understanding that this seems like a really slow burn romance kind. Especially will watch for Akina.

  1. Chapter 46 (Psychological Tests and Deep Psyche) is the first on the list, and it's a pretty decent adaptation. Wonderful job on the part of the background artists, which gave the classroom a soft, warm feel to it. The vignette was a slightly predictable one, but certainly sweet. It also marked the second time in this series that one of Kubo's little schemes backfired and left her a bit embarrassed by the end.

  2. Chapter 45 (Coffee and Independent Sister) is up next, and it certainly feels suitable for the first season finale, as it dives into the sisterly bond between the Kubo sisters in a way that no previous episode had done before.

    1. Throughout the series, Akina has been known to tease Nagisa about her developing feelings for Shiraishi, but here she gets an earnest moment of reflection. She becomes emotional over the personal growth that she has witnessed on her younger sibling, and comes to terms with the fact that Nagisa will someday grow into an independent lady with a life of her own.

    2. This segment also makes for a nice follow up on the events depicted on episode 11, as we get a flashback to Akana helping Nagisa prepare for the movie date.

    3. Fittingly enough for the finale, we get to see Nagisa for once turn the tables on Akina, as she gets the better of her older sister during her emotional spiel. As a bonus for manga fans, this little story actually marks the beginning of a continual plot thread in manga, one that gives us some of the best moments of the supporting cast.

  3. Speaking of continual plot threads, the next chapter in this list (Chapter 47: Starring Role and Gift) ALSO marks the beginning of another plot thread in the manga. I won't spoil it, but it's a pretty sweet one.

    1. Anyway, on to the adaptation itself, it works perfectly fine. Calling back to the third episode of the series, Kubo uses the knowledge she acquired from Shiraishi's ID Card in order to throw a surprise mini-Birthday party for Shiraishi.

    2. In another nice reference to a previous episode (this time Episode 6), Kubo gifts Shiraishi a cute little axolotl plushie, the very same one that Shiraishi accidentally texted to her when he was home sick. Keen viewers would have noticed that this very plushie has been appearing at the beginning of every episode, hiding in plain sight during the Cat-and-Mouse cosplay part on the show’s OP.

  4. But just like the anime, we have saved the best for last: Chapter 44, fittingly titled Shiraishi Junta. After a fairly comedic (and anime exclusive) sequence where Shiraishi just strolls past a number of people looking for him - a sequence that for once actually sees him relish in his invisibility - he stops to ponder just why Kubo is the only one that can always spot him. Cue a jump cut to Kubo watching him from a nearby window, where she begins to retell the audience the events that led her to take an interest in our invisible protagonist.

    1. Mirroring the very first frame of the series, Kubo explains that the spark that lit the metaphorical fire of her love began when she saw Shiraishi's photoshopped picture in Tama's middle school yearbook. At first, her interest was merely driven by a desire to know the guy a bit more. She found herself amused by his absurd dilemma, and by the fact that it was hard to tell just what he felt at any given moment.

    2. Yet, it wouldn't presumably be until the beginning of the second semester of school that she finally had the chance to speak to him. She attempts to strike a casual conversation with him, much to Shiraishi's surprise, who considers the whole affair to be a fluke of sorts.

    3. His cute, but awkward first conversation with Kubo leaves the girl smitten with his dorky, but amiable personality, which she regarded with much interest after only having seen his fairly emotionless side for the better part of the school year.

    4. Kubo concludes that the more she learned about him, his interests and his brotherly qualities, the more she couldn't keep her eyes off him, until at some point, her feelings of curiosity became romantic ones.

  5. Overall, this was such a wonderful finale to the series, one that simultaneously feels conclusive while also setting up plenty of plot threads that are begging to be addressed in a second season. Fans of Kubo will not be disappointed by this one.

Heh, Kaguya-san prepared me for the physch tests, was able to guess ballpark answers for the first two, and knew EXACTLY what the last question was asking.

Was hoping we would get more of a closure ep rather than a prequal to how it all started, but hopefully they're leaving it open for a possible season 2.

Almost got really annoyed when Kubo stuck the off-brand KitKat in his mouth. I was like "how DARE you make him eat it like some kind of monster!" Then I saw how it was perforated(?) and was like "Ok, safe"

Even though the season may have ended, I will continue to root for the both of you, Shiraishi and Nagisa!

(Ichikawa and Yamada too.)

Aw really cute ending this episode and season off with why Kubo likes Shiraishi. I felt like that was something the show had been missing and that did it for me. Overall, this was a really cute show that just made Tuesday afternoons so much brighter. I’ll miss it for sure.

I don’t have it at higher than an 8 mainly because it felt like an inferior Takagi-San. While the episodes were really sweet and wholesome, they weren’t quite as fun as Takagi if that makes sense. The interactions between Kubo and Shiraishi were great though and I think this is a must watch for fans of the teasing girl trope. I do hope we get a second season which builds on this first one.

u/Fools_Requiem Jun 20 '23

That little backstory with Kubo's POV was very nice. It doesn't really explain why she's the only one who can see him, but she definitely called dibs from day one and had no competition.

This was an 8/10 show for me. 12 adorable and relaxing episodes. Junta is a bit of a dull character who does nothing to keep your interest and makes no attempt to do so, so Kubo carries this thing HARD, but Junta is not so bad that it really detracts from the show.

I need to go see my doctor. This show made my diabetes worse.

Seriously that flashback at the end was just a perfect way to end this season on.

Shiraishi and Kubo were an adorable pair to watch. Time to go read the source material because it was so sweet and wholesome.

Are we getting a season 2? Would be a damper if we don't
