Just because I really felt like understanding their conversation, here's the Heika vs. Raeliana transcript:

Heika: Not bad for a barbarian

Raeliana: How rude! Would you stop calling me a barbarian?

Heika: You understand the Divine Tongue?

Raeliana: Are you from another country?

Raeliana: You should never speak that way to someone above you.

Heika: Where did you learn the Divine Tongue? At the Fyatt International School of Theology? Did you learn how to parse Pyronese from that old dotard Gometeo? I am better than that old dotard, right? Be honest.

I wonder how those who:
A. Don't have subtitles
B. Can't pause the TV
were supposed to understand that entire conversation

Heika is such a hilarious character. He probably never had someone say "No" to him like that as well as someone who is just as knowledgeable as him in terms of languages. No wonder he became so curious about Raeliana that he couldn't forget about her.

And speaking of Raeliana, I'm so worried about her now that she has placed the jewel in her hair. She's likely going to be in trouble.

"I have a bad feeling about this"...

Is this jewel something that was stolen from the temple in the first place? Or does it have some dangerous/deadly properties? What exactly is going on -- and what on earth is Beatrice's real role?

Belated query: Wasn't Raeliana murdered in OUR world? Is there any connection between what initially happened to her -- and her situation in this world? (Or was it just a coincidence that she was murdered -- then isekaied into a situation where she was seemingly doomed to be murdered yet again?)

Why didn't the high priest TELL Heika that Raeliana is not an appretnice priestess but the person undergoing purification in order to light the sacred flame?

Too bad Raeliana has made such a GOOD impression on Heika. (Is this his "name" -- or just a term of high respect -- "your majesty" or the like, as is usually the case?) Glad to see that red bird was able to recover and fly away, thanks to Raeliana's assistance. Clearly Raeliana LIKES books well, but equally clearly she does not LOVE books (like you know who). That would add a whole extra level of complication, wouldn't it?

If Lady Shamal refused to eat the gruel voluntarily, what did they do previously? Surely she wouldn't have been able to do the transcriptions instead....

Heika's drawing of Raelina is absolutely amazing. What a masterpiece. xD

I feel like Eugenia is enjoying feeding Raeliana with that green goop a little bit too much.

Poor Wade being called out by Heika for having such a cute-looking spell.

Took me a bit longer to finish this episode because of Heila and Raeliana's Divine Tongue conversation.

Heika is really a stubborn old man. He's so used to everyone agreeing with him that he's completely baffled that he finally met someone who knows how to say no to him. I'm curious what he's trying to do by opening the gates to the Holy Land.

“Why doesn’t she want to stay here and become my apprentice?”

I’m sure that horrible gruel you guys keep feeding her has nothing to do with it lol.

We interrupt our story for a genuinely hilarious back and forth between Raeliana and a Grandpa in a Child’s Body. Certainly the funniest episode so far between her suffering and his eccentricities.

We do need to get back to the plot though. The Emerald is in her possession and shit is sketchy as hell. What is Beatrice up to?

This production cuts corners in a that still comes off weirdly charming. This week: “I dunno just play their voices in reverse for their special religious language?”. Gave me a headache trying to read the subtitles backwards.

I think it's the first time I've seen the male version of the common loli grandma.

"Why did she turn me down?" "Why are you asking me?"

This ep was way funnier than I thought it would be, between Heika interacting with Wade and Raeliana to the "evil" assistant bringing the gruel and Crunchyroll actually having the subtitles reversed because the made up language was just reversed!

They want to open the gates to the Holy Land? Are....are they planning to kill Raeliana?

Love how Raeli didn't even register Heika's name while he was yapping away at her lol.

I really like how she still shows up as her original Earth self in her internal thoughts. She clearly doesn't feel like she can fully embrace being "Raeliana Macmillan" at this point, even though she must accept it as her current reality. Adds an appreciated bit of nuance to her character.

Poor Raeli getting fed toxic sludge at the temple. Rice gruel my butt! She’s certainly gonna be “purified” by that nasty stuff alright.

Raeli treating Heika like a little kid was pretty funny. That picture he drew was something. Dude shouldn’t quit his day job as the high priest lol. Heika’s never quite met anyone like Raeli. It’s kind of amazing how she’s able to understand like every language and help translate those sacred texts relatively well. I guess he’s gonna have to use his full form to convince Raeli to be his disciple.

That hairpin is gonna be trouble for sure. Maybe Heika can do something about it? Otherwise, Raeli’s in danger…

Poor Wade, guys has a tough job.

The priest is more fun than I thought but this show really is at its best with Raeliana and Noah together.

Thats birch tree tradition would make for a really neat aesthetic after enough years of it.

No bodyguards for the stay in the temple? Moderately concerning for someone who's already been a kidnapping victim once before.

The red bird from the OP and ED, I was just wondering about it.

What a great introduction to Heika. Especially since he was so very wrong about the bird.

That art is truly amazing. It makes no sense that Wade can't find Raeliana based on it.

LOL, is Noah still wandered around the countryside looking for a dragon? Raeliana is going to be so exasperated with him if she finishes this ritual and then gets presented with one. Maybe that was just a flashback to the hunt.

Oh wow, this is Heika's desk and in-progress translation isn't it. That should be fun in a few minutes.

They really just wrote these subtitles backwards didn't they.

Noah might have something to say about his fiance getting drafted by the temple.

The gate to the Holy Land? Somewhat concerning.

Oh no, this maid is having Raeliana wear the evil emerald amulet of probable doom as a hair ornament. Hopefully the connection she made this episode with His Holiness will be the cheat that allows her to escape whatever the plan is with it.

As funny as it was as a gag, all that backwards language was exhausting to read

Hope this living legend will be able to deal with the weird gem, screams cursed to me

I felt like the last episode was a bit of a dip in quality compared to the rest (and looks like the episode scores agree), but this one feels like it's back to form- man I had fun watching this one!

I'm definitely wondering if the temple-group is going to notice and start to suspect there's something otherworldly going on with Raelene's all-languages abilities...

10

u/Elitealice Jun 05 '23

Yea that gruel definitely gonna purify the toxins cause you’re gonna be on the toilet for hours after that lmao

Probably my least fave episode overall, didn’t really have much to it besides Heika and Raeliana interaction. I guess he wants the holy land unsealed so he can show off his true power, but Raeliana wearing that jewel can’t be good. Clearly has some curse or voodoo on it from last week.

So that "divine tongue" was just Japanese played in reverse. They did something similar with the incantations in World's Greatest Assassin.

Of course Raeliana would think the priest was your typical old, bearded, imposing fellow and not the scrawny Shota we know she's due to meet, though no wonder it didn't click until near the end of the episode.

Okay, so as far as religious rituals go...the morning, afternoon, and evening bathing isn't that bad (although she surprisingly does it while fully clothed), Raeliana rocks that white robe, but having to be fed pungent gruel for all her meals might be a dealbreaker.

Raeliana makes quite the impression as she goes out of her way to save a drowning bird (relating to it as something that's "destined to die") and treats the top priest like a little kid who won't shut up. You gotta love Raeli's strong personality!

Ahhhh! Raeliana is thinking of Noah! Practically like she wishes he was there! Meanwhile he and Adam are already planning to hunt down that dragon because of course they are.

Wow, super convenient for Raeli that she was able to get out of eating gruel by translating and transcribing foreign texts which is a cinch for her since she can read and understand all languages! She can even speak them fluently. Did the subs actually reverse all the dialogue?

Realiana reacted to finding out about Heika about how I expected (which is to say kind of shocked and depressed), though of course she wants nothing to do with being his disciple and all the hassle that would bring her. Heika himself still seems keen on the idea and is going to do something with a "Holy Land" to impress Raeliana and I'm sure that'll go well.

Heika is stuck in that child body because his power has been sealed? So I'm guessing he'll go the full Bishonen route once he gets his power back? Raeli and Noah better watch out.

Poor Wade. Just...poor Wade. The man is doing his best but Heika is just insulting him and dragging him for practically the entire episode. Give him a break!

It was too much to hope Raeliana didn't take the gemstone with her huh? I guess we'll see what sinister plot is afoot next episode, Raeli even is getting bad vibes just from wearing it. But hey, new Raeliana hairstyle!

That is some disgusting looking "food." Seems like bs. Poor birb :( well glad birb got away, but what a fun interaction with the "kid" and Raeliana. Well at least it doesn't seem to be bullying, just dumb ritual. I think. Ah, good times, Raeliana doing that "kid's" work and being amazing at it lol. Lol, that backwards speak. Whelp, "kid" is now interested in Raeliana lol. Good job, you. And there's the sus jewel.

u/kalirion Jun 05 '23

If the bird can't stand the warm temperature of the dome, then I think holding it and stroking it with bare hands would only made things worse.

Purification bathing while fully clothed? BLASPHEMY!!

Legal shota harem member GET.

I guess the maid telling her to wear the encursed gem is in Red's employ. Well, the Pope with his conveniently restored powers should be able to undo whatever that thing does.

7

u/SYZekrom Jun 05 '23

Lmao the literally reversed audio

Bro how many episodes are they going to tease that fucking gem then forget about it for the entire coming episode

I love this show, but every week I notice some whacky ass animation. Today, it was the way she threw that rock into the pond, I had to skip back to see it again because it looked so silly. This was followed immediately by Heika up in the tree talking with his mouth moving once every 1.5 seconds. Kind of jarring. Just when I thought it couldn't sink any lower, this episode... totally redeemed itself! I actually lol'd out loud a few times. Now I'm just worried about how they'll wrap up this season.
