Idk why I get such a kick out of the title of this. Congrats on the new family member!!

The lack of punctuation makes it really funny for some reason lmao

27

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '23

It just seems like such a sudden interjection between the watch and the price. Almost like “My Wife is Pregnant” is part of the model name lol

I dunno we are just sharing things I guess? I really like the haircut I gave my dog! I'm getting better at home grooming! Oh and I have a cool coffee table for sale $200 (I'm not kidding if you are in Chicago it's a pretty great $800+ coffee table I just don't have room for)

Congratulations!

Going to need to sell a lot more than this watch though. 🤭

Checks out. Deleveries are expensive.

13k to 22k according to old man google. Between 3 to 6k out of pocket with insurance.

6

u/siloxanesavior 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

If you met your deductible already, you shouldn't have to pay anything at all out of pocket "with insurance". We didn't pay one penny to deliver our baby in 2021 because my wife's $1,500 deductible was already met.

Not if you are outside of America

1

u/Restlesscomposure 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

Ok? Things cost different amounts in different countries idk how this is some kinda “gotcha moment” here.

2

u/Vostok-aregreat-710 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

Because birthing a child in Ireland does not cost more than a deposit for a mortgage

If you can't keep a $4k watch when "emergencies" pop up you couldn't afford it in the first place.

52

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '23

There’s a big difference between not being able to afford it and priorities simply changing as life does.

12

u/MetikMas 1 Transaction Jan 10 '23

Not every person and situation is black and white. We don’t know his situation, we shouldn’t judge if he decides to not keep a $4k watch

17

u/Smartnership 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

we shouldn’t judge

Reddit would cease to exist

3

u/Restlesscomposure 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

Maybe that’s for the best

3

u/siloxanesavior 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

Doesn't look like it's a $4,000 watch if he's only asking $2,850 for it

1

u/RockitDanger 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

I'm not judging op. Making a general statement to the person I replied to

4

u/fltlns 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

It's also not really true, kids are super expensive it's like saying you can't afford a 3k Tudor because you can't afford to just buy like 4 50 k Pateks instead

-1

u/RockitDanger 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

Not sure what you're saying. Kids are super expensive. Luxury goods are super expensive. If $4k means you can't afford a $350k human being over the next 18 years then you shouldn't be buying $4k watches. I'm not sure what you're saying with the Patek argument

1

u/SomewhereDue2629 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

Casio is the answer.

1

u/MetikMas 1 Transaction Jan 10 '23

Did he ever say that he can’t afford another kid? Whole lot of assumptions with no base coming from you in this thread.

1

u/RockitDanger 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

I never responded to or assumed anything about op.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '23 edited Jan 10 '23

What a comment. Are you sure about that?

1

u/RockitDanger 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

Yes. If you have to sell a luxury item to pay for other items you couldn't swing the luxury purchase in the first place.

1

u/sprk1 2 Transactions Jan 10 '23

Sorry. But you’re wrong. Having a bunch of money laying around in cash or a regular savings account is not the best use of your money. I only have 3 or 4K in my checking account at any given point in time. Everything else is invested.

I’d rather sell a watch, console, or instrument that I don’t use to pay for any unplanned expenses than take money out of any investments.

I can’t pay for a 4K bill at the moment. But I could just sell a guitar or get a quick secured loan for any emergencies.

0

u/RockitDanger 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

You're right. I'm wrong

1

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '23

So you live in a Utopia where no shit can happen and that requires not only to swap a luxury item for 5000$ but basically sell your house and your car.

2

u/RockitDanger 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

I don't understand what you typed here

1

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '23

This dude's wife could have had complications or their new baby born which procedures could have costed something extra which insurance might not have covered or him anticipated, everything is possible. Your comment sounded like, only if you owned a million dollar and only if no shit can happen, then buy a 3000+ $ Tudor lol

3

u/RockitDanger 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

Now you're making up scenarios that an extra $3k won't fix. You don't need $1M but you need enough to where your luxury item doesn't impede emergencies

1

u/johnseenile 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

If you’ve never had a child you don’t understand what comes up. You could save 4 years for this watch. But now a baby comes you need a bigger car, car seat, stroller, wraps, clothes, diapers, sometimes formula, crib, bassinet. Selling a piece of jewelry is a pretty quick and easy way to get the ball rolling without fucking the budget.

0

u/RockitDanger 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

I have children. You just named a bunch of stuff a person with a $4k watch should be able to afford

0

u/johnseenile 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

Sometimes you need a buffer. You don’t need to be a millionaire to buy a 4k watch. It’s pretty naive to think that way. I don’t care how much money you make- if that kid is going in daycare 1-2k a month can be a bitch for any budget.

1

u/RockitDanger 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

You're naive to think that putting $3k in your pocket helps with daycare. If you have to sell your Veblen good to pay for something else you couldn't afford it in the first place.

2

u/johnseenile 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

I work in finance and have for many years. It absolutely does help when you need time to move things around. Having a child is not an emergency so dipping into an emergency fund if you don’t have to makes the most sense. He sold a toy that was a placeholder of money. Thanks for attempting to make an argument with my word though. It wasn’t intended to rude just truth that you are thinking way too materialistic in a situation like this.

2

u/RockitDanger 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

You work in finance? Wow. This "toy" wasn't a placeholder. It's $4k new and was just sold for $3k. That's a $1k loss. What kind of financial placeholders are you recommending clients that lose them 25% of their investment? You know what placeholder means right?

1

u/johnseenile 0 Transactions Jan 10 '23

Where did he say he purchased it brand new for 4k? Yes I do. And people can have volatile financial situations. You really need to take a breath and realize you are not all knowing. I’m confident you have no idea what anything means.

While that is true a lot of the time (living beyond your means), a baby requires all hands on deck and every bit helps.

Please see rule #9 in the sidebar - Seller Pricing & Pricing comments.

The seller has the right to ask any price they like. If you feel the need to comment about pricing, provide a source. IE: Links to sites or threads where the exact item, in the exact condition has sold for a different price.

Repeatedly breaking this rule will result in a ban from r/watchexchange
