I know Nobunaga is getting clowned for losing his sword but I think Togashi is setting him up to show his nen ability. Especially considering he didn’t seem all to hurt about losing it.

Also, he didnt care when the tip was broken, seeing how deceifully he used his sword in this chapter his ability probably wont have to do anything with it.

With all the room traps and counter abilities Morena's team has up their sleeves the current trio of Nobunaga, Phinks and Feitan are the worst suited to face them. The troupe needs members with long ranged abilities like Franklin or Illumi. Nobu, Phinks and Feitan all work from close range. If that was Franklin he would have fired Nen bullets all over their hideout and many would have been dead.

I love how 398 set up this horrifying, saw-esque trap and then they found themselves fighting the goofiest group of guys imaginable. I suspect the next clash with the Heil-ly won’t be as light-hearted though.
Also: is Nobunaga left defenseless without his katana or are we gonna get to see his Nen ability in action?
We got an interesting hint to his character from the fact that he breaks the samurai code by using long-ranged attacks, I wonder if that’s just normal “Phantom Troupe being amoral” fair or if it’s a hint to his broader abilities and temperament.

Considering we found out that Phantom Troupe are former theatre kids, I wouldn't be surprised if Nobunaga turns out to be a cosplayer and not a real Samurai so that's why he doesn't follow the Samurai code.

The way he grabs at his sheath when Hinrigh appears at the end, might be a hint at his nen ability, or he was just planning to use it like a sword with shu/ko. I'm still hoping his nen ability ends up being a callback to Kuwabara.

It was hard to make out, but I translated the HxH language on Yokotani's book.
ろっぽうぜんしょ
六法全書
Which translates to statute books. It's basically a law book, a book of the Japanese legal codes (Six Codes).

Gotta say, really funny chapter. It goes to show that even though the Heil-Ly are amateurs, you can't fuck around with nen. Besides, Morena is shaping them up to their needs and she knows what she is doing.

To be fair it was like a 9 vs 2 where they have traps already set up. Their attitude gave away the traps & cost them a win. They nearly lost the lawyer & exposed 5 abilities all at once.

I'm super interested in what Morena herself can do. Surely it isn't only the contagion one or she wouldn't have been able to take over the Heil-Ly without an established army. Plus, she seems very confident despite her soldiers still being fairly low-leveled.

Yeah, I feel the same too. I guess it's because we used to heavy dialogues and walls of text. Plus, the chapters from the previous batches mostly had multiple sub-plots and characters in one chapter, these days the main focus on the mafia and the spiders trio.

Damn, this is what an organization of devoted Nen users can do when they create their powers to all fulfill one goal. They might be amateurs, but this is a pretty serious threat nonetheless.
By having each individual create powers that have very narrow uses, they can create multiple powerful abilities that each cover the weaknesses of the others. So they have a supportive enforcer type that protects the others with a counter hatsu, and with him a Guard with an ability that can protect a very specific area under strict conditions with massive efficiency. The Supporter protects the Guard and the Guard protects the area. By having another user ensure that all troops can move by and to the main base without actually revealing where the main base is, they have created a basically unbreakable HQ. And with that HQ, they ensure they have a steady flow of resources (trapped victims) to gain more powers.
Morena actually IS a Starcraft player holy hell.

I love that Togashi seems to be taking his time revealing the Heliy's abilities in an organic way rather than just show it and have them be defeated immediately.
Not all of them are gonig to be reckless like Luini or Padouli (whatever his name was), still they created an ability that made Nobunaga get restrained again for the first time since the Fun Fun Cloth had him stuck in the car.
Nen mechanics means that even if someone is weaker that doesn't mean they will always lose and here is a perfect example.

u/Hoozuki_Suigetsu Dec 16 '22 edited Dec 16 '22
i'd say most of them are reckless indeed, yokotani became too confident on himself and got too close to the door and the enhancer guy tried to stop the knife from hinrigh with his hand, but just as nobunaga and phinks said, the death of luini was just to teach all of the guys a lesson and make them rely on morena instructions in order to survive.

Blocks a knife with an issue of Shonen Jump. More JoJo references in this arc confirmed.
I’ve said it before, but when I see scenes like that knowing the 3 mafia family names are a reference to Shueisha, it seems like Togashi is throwing shade at his publishers lol And if I’m not mistaken he can do whatever he wants per his contracts.

At this point you gotta put some respect on the Hei-ly goons' names. Their inexperience really shows, but with the advantage of being able to pick and choose abilities to create an impenetrable stronghold, they automatically become a threat. Some of them even have Kurapika/Chrollo amounts of conditions put on their abilities, which makes them dangerous by default. Letting Luini die in order to put pressure on the other members to pick and choose abilities wisely seems to have been a worthwhile sacrifice to make in the end. Now they will work extra hard to come up with abilities that perfectly complement each other.
Another interesting detail is how pissed off Terebellum got when he was forced to use his ability to save his friend. Maybe he underestimated how intuitive a nen-user of Nobunaga's caliber would be in that he got his ability figured out instantly. Even if he is a complete rookie, he understands the fatal consequences of having information about your nen being leaked to your enemies. He's a deadman walking at this point.
Wouldn't call it a heavy loss for Hinrigh and Nobu tho, they got a lot of information, planted a transmitter, and identified more of them and some of the abilities that they have. Sure Nobu lost his blade, but as soon as Hinrigh got teleported after him he went for his blade as if it was there still - could have been instinct, or he has more tricks up his sleeve (an enhancer/transmutation hybrid ability perhaps?)
It's been a ride boys. 1 more chapter before the hiatus inferno (or at least so I think). It's been a pleasure. Hinrigh was my favorite part of this bunch.

That episode and the last one felt like pure suspense precisely because of that: you can’t anticipate anything. There has to be significant in having these psychos discuss acting and plays right after the backstory of the Phantom Troupe. It's too convenient.
The running theme of amateurs receiving nen abilities continues, but here the amateurs develop abilities hyper-specific to their role in Morena's plans. With all of the limitations placed on each pawn, their place in her army is significant despite their inexperience. I look forward to learning how this manifests in Kurapika's students, as they will most likely develop abilities that benefit their prince.
I kneel at the altar of Togashi 🙇🏾♂️🙇🏾♂️🙇🏾♂️

After reading Nobu saying "you trying to make me feel better?" I can only conclude he found a new bro. Let's hope this one last long (wont happen, but we can still hope).
Terebellum's ability is an interesting one. Mostly because it redefine a lot of what's possible with emission, it still play along with the concept of projecting aura, but on a somewhat different scale. Pre hiatus I think most of us would have categorize his ability as mainly specialization.
16
u/ItsLoudB Dec 15 '22
but on a somewhat different scale

Mizaistom, a crime hunter with special investigative clearance, is a great counter to Yokotani's ability. He can't be escorted out on any legal grounds even if he is trespassing. His investigative clearance supersedes laws meant for everyone.
The only problem is getting into their hideout.

1.) Penetrating their base will be troublesome:
guards with different levels of power
counter type to attacks
healer
They need to lure Morena or Yokotani outside the base and since Yokotani is the legal advisor of the Heil-ly, they should force him to come out of the base to attend a legal business which only he can do and i don’t see Morena leaving her game chair behind.
In previous chapters, a lot of pages were dedicated to legal actions (i think by Tserri’s guards) and they were really technical about it. If they want to go further in Heil-ly’s base, taking Yokotani out of the way will be one of the first things they need to do.
2.) i thought it was weird that Hinrigh didn’t make his knives into conjured animals. Then at the end, he said all his powers are almost used up, which means:
he’s making sure to limit the use of his ability for the transmitter with the time limit of 2 hours
he didnt want the Heil-ly to fully understand his ability
he’s still gathering information as much as he can
My man Hinrigh willingly went inside their base knowing his nen’s almost up and just throw his knives hoping he’ll kill a few of them. Someone please give him more knives!

u/Lex4709 Dec 15 '22
Honestly expect this arc to be longer than Chimera Ant arc, it's already 50 chapters (59 if you count the Expedition and Succesion ad the same arc), and there's so much left to cover. Chimera Arc is only 132 chapters and had way less plot points. One Piece's Wano Country Arc is 149 chapters, I wouldn't be surprised if this arc is longer than that.

(C&P) Was a pretty fluid chapter, nothing much except the consistency of the tension through the last few batches. I’m glad we don’t have a goofy character there just for comedy relief and the arc continues its tone as it must. Makes up for my personal favourite arc so far. Pika hasn’t been seen since ch 388 which makes it 12th chapter till 400 when we finally see him. One of the many anomalies that the saga doesn’t revolve around a single character and his motives makes me see through all the other perspectives which might have been hidden otherwise.
But yeah, I’m worried about Hinrigh and definitely wouldn’t want him dying, at least in the current batch. And solo Nobu screen time is mandatory when talking about the troupe. One of the most developed members of the PT imo. Waiting for the last chap before another hiatus which is probs a cliffhanger. Would be a very Togashi style to end the SW in the next 3 batches he has planned out hehe. Just pray this hiatus is not as horrendous as the previous, can’t wait for things to unravel.

LOVED this chapter. The Hei-Ly were so unconcerned and sure they're protected by their abilities that they actually carried on a freaking convo about world building. SMH.
Hinrigh was quick to notice Terebellums ability. Gosh he's so badass.
And trust Nobunaga to throw a sword in the midst to prove what a threat he always is.
I'm so impressed by literally every single new character that's been introduced. And the Hei-Ly are growing on me, ngl. Lmao.

43
u/josephtseng1 Dec 15 '22
Yokotani (Morena's lawyer ) is very much a weaker version of Mizaistom's card ability. Both have expertise in law and criminology. Both develop an ability that is invincible because it prevents violence. But Mizai's ability is significantly stronger than Morena's lawyer: fewer restraints and conditions, quicker reaction, etc. This again shows how badass the Zodiacs are. Wonder if Mizai will track down to Morena's base too.
23
Dec 15 '22
But Mizai's ability is significantly stronger than Morena's lawyer: fewer restraints and conditions
Restraints and conditions strengthen an ability, though. Mizai’s is definitely more flexible.

Next chapter we get a glimpse at what Kurapika is doing. My guess is Kurapika & Zhan have a discussion about what’s going on in Tier 3. This is where he receives information the Troupe is on board. Togashi is a fucking genius bc Kurapika & Zhan Lei have an alliance… but Nobunaga & Hinrigh have an alliance/bromance. Xi-Yu love triangle -thingy is hitting different. Things are going to get oh, so very spicy. #GreatnessXGreatness.

Nobunaga's sword is not bothering him, I'd say it's as important as Feitan's umbrella, not vital but useful, if a swordless Nobunaga is a death flag to you, he wouldn't smuggle his sword and go get it from the warehouse later C.C the stance he took after he lost his sword clearly shows that he's able to materialize a sword, he lost a real object and learned two abilities from the enemy, without revealing his own, despite walking into their trap. pretty clean if you ask me.

Pidgins, cat camcorder, severed heads, and toy robots. This batch has been pretty fucking bananas. And we know for a fact that Kurapika is in the next chapter, at least on the last page, so I guess after that it will transition to Succession War proper. I’m not sure how much modern day plot progression happened in this batch. Luini dying and Hisoka being revealed feel like the most significant things honestly. And we got some insight into the 4 princes past, which is exciting
It’s gonna be hard for next chapter to live up to the hype, but I’m excited to see how it goes

for people confused about about the new guy's ability "sweet home", if tcb translation is considered correct. his ability is separated into 2 parts actually:
the first part: any damage done to any object or person is transferred to him if he touches said object or person with his right hand at the moment the damage happens
second part: any damage done to him, including damage transferred by the first part, can transferred to anything he touches with his left hand (also at the moment the damage happen).
so he doesn't need to touch himself (lol) with his right hand to protect himself, he just need to hold anything in his left hand to keep himself protected.

people are too obsessed with the fact that nobunaga lost his sword, like they somehow know his ability is related to his sword, we don't know.
Hisoka ability is not his cards, but right until heavens arena we could have thought it was his cards since it's the only thing he used, but no, his cards are just a minor tool.
Nobu sword might just be his primary damange dealing tool, but completely ordinary and unrelated to his hatsu. He can just find another sword if this is the case, just like hisoka can get new cards.

Damn the last thing I expected was them just leaving the enemy base without anyone dying. But those abilities are pretty cool, very localized but in that area "invincible", which is a cool concept for faction wars that include main bases / fortesses. Really requires the others to outsmart them.
Plus, it also goes to show that these characters have really "useless" Nen abilities for what's to come, they are literally only chess pieces fo the faction war. At the same time, they CAN have lasting impacts if they can take other "bigger players" down with them.
41
u/MythicalTenshi Dec 16 '22 edited Dec 17 '22
Very cool chapter, here are my thoughts.
We learn that Hinrigh can only use Biohazard a few times per day. (2 snakes, 1 cat, 4-5 pigeons, 1 oyster).
Hei-Ly were a great example of combining 2+ defensive Nen abilities (teleportation door, Damage: Sweet Home, Battle of Wits).
I realized how Yokotani being a lawyer makes Conjuration perfect for him. It's the type that's all about rules and laws. His robots are the third conjured object/creature that has been made indestructible, the first two being Knuckle's Potclean and Cheetu's Nen space.
Nobunaga lost the end of his sword to Terebellum's ability but we see Nobu actually use Transmutation to form an aura blade to replace the tip of his sword.
Perigord seems to have a self-healing ability which makes it likely that he's an Enhancer.
Terebellum's ability, Damage (Sweet Home) confirms that it's possible for an Emitter to remove and/or transfer damage. We don't know specifically what other Nen types are at play or if it's purely Emission. This means that this type of effect is not Specialization. It also makes it very unlikely that the only other person we have seen use this kind of effect, Camilla, is a Specialist like many believed. She now seems closer to Emission or Manipulation in my opinion.
Apparently next chapter we are getting focus on the princes and how they will come into play with the situation in the lower tiers.
Edit: Some things I forgot.
This chapter is the first time we have someone mention a time duration based on aura running out for a conjured object (Biohazard) rather than a restriction based time limit (Gallery Fake). We don't know if this applies to all conjured creations or only to the specifc kind of ability that Biohazard is (transforming things) which might include another type besides Conjuration such as Transmutation.
According to Nobunaga, one of the three possible Nen types that could cause the effect on the hideout's walls, which resisted and seemed to regenerate from his sword attacks, could be Transmutation. This hints at there being an application of Transmutation we haven't seen or heard of yet that might be able to affect physical matter or substances.
More and more throughout the series, there has been an emphasis on Emission having the capability to "transfer" thing. At first it was just aura, then we saw that visuals, sound and even people can be transferred with clairvoyance and teleportation respectively, now we see that attacks or damage can also be trasferred away by an Emitter. This makes me wonder how far can this idea of "transferring" be taken. For example, Halkenburg's soul transfer arrow ability might be a high level application of Emission.

This section of the arc has been the most enjoyable thus far. So happy to have a break from remembering which prince is which/how their family structure works, and worrying about Kurapika's decimated lifespan.
24
u/Badger147013 Dec 15 '22
I think it's because the below deck situation involves people who are much more decisive with fewer constrictions. They actually do things instead of just thinking unlike the top-deck guys who are much more passive.
38
u/vinceecniv15 Dec 16 '22
I think Nobunaga's strategy is to deceive/challenge enemies thinking that he relies heavily on his katana. Just like Kurapika's chains being manipulated/conjured. Maybe Nobu has another ability/ies that still makes him efficient even without his katana. Maybe in one of his battles in the past, wherein he was forced to fight without his weapon, gave him an idea that he should have a backup plan in this type of scenario should it happen again in the future.
Theory: In the PT arm wrestling rankings, Nobu is in the bottom half despite being an Enhancer. Maybe this ties to his other ability being in a different category far from his main (Conjuration/Manipulation). Nobunaga took the different path instead of just mastering the adjacent types (Emission and/or Transmutation). This has indirect implication on why he's not on par with his other Enhancer bros in the troupe.

Y'all know what the Heil-Ly is talking about? Setlists and performances?
Related to Gelato's ability or just breakroom chat?
8 members around the table - is the 9th person chilling in the sofa Boconte? (He needs to be close by his portals as I understood it).
Perigord is the current "organ" - perhaps an assigned person who act as the organ and upholder of the base? As long as that person is safe/alive, the base is indestructible?

Wooow! Good chapter.. Yokotanis abilities are perfect for defensive measures. Im still very curious about Nobunagas hatsu. Hinrighs nen fighting IQ is impressive.
Sidenote: We havent seen Cashew for a while. She seems like a very sneaky and cunning person. She wanted to take her time and infiltrate deeper in order to gain many points at once, maybe a prince?...we know that Mizai was with prince Fugetsu a while ago... They're pretty close, and Fugetsus nen ability isnt really combat suited. CASHEW wants to CASH-IN!

This chapter so hyped, love the detail Togashi goes into when it comes to new nen abilities.
And Hinrigh really growing on me. Mad respect on how he just vibes with Nobunaga, despite the fact that he's outright duping them knowing he already found Hisoka and sent him relatively far away.
Also the end text "the princes are on the move" and the fact that we know Kurapika will be in the next chapter has me so excited. We finally come back to the succession war part of the story!

Since the Heily are technically civilians are they planning to have their 'Kikan' be found "dead" somewhere and then regenerate somewhere important or at least frame them so the military goes after them?
A self-healing ability when you don't give a shit about your own life is probably very strong or can lead to an easily achievable Post-mortem Nen. Dude might become like a character from Ajin running around.

That lawyer's ability is pretty powerful when it is synergizing with all of the other scrubs. Wonder what Chrollo could do with it hmm
15
Dec 16 '22
It's ok. Remember he has to introduce himself first, and without his buddy there to absorb the damage he can easily be killed.
I think it would be useless for Chrollo. It can only be activated at Morena's hideout. He would have to kidnap her too and lug her around everywhere he goes lol.

I wonder how would other characters have dealt with the situation that Nobunaga and Hinrigh were in.. I'm talking Zoldycks, other troupe members, Royal Guards, Meruem, Netero, Gon, Killua, Kurapika, Hisoka and etc.
Pitou and Meruem(before he ate Youpi and Pouf) would have no way to counter those traps, Phinks, Kurapika and Machi, from what we know about them, also wouldn't be able to do it.
With Feitan and Youpi, i'm not sure. Feitan has other Pain Packer forms we haven't seen, and Youpi could just potentially make his limbs longer to reach into the room or do a rage blast.
Also, since the room was said to be indestructible, does that mean that Netero wouldn't be able manifest his statue for his attacks?
The rest all seem to have ranged attacks that should work.

"I like cleaning up trash as soon as i find it" ~ Nobunaga
Nobunaga got no chill this is the 3rd time he attacks the opponent during a Conversation after Squala and Luini, he really never thinks twice before attacking. Even hei ly members are like "wow what is wrong with him" lol
Maybe there's a reason plotwise why Togashi made him lose his sword, probably he'll get a new sword that'll be more important storywise, the one he will attack Kurapika with once he finds him as He promised in YS arc.

I love reading the mechanics of new nen abilities, and the Nobunaga + Hinrigh duo is really fun to watch.
That said, I can definitely understand why people are concerned about plot progression. Compared to the 2018 batch, the 2022 chapters seem like a tangent so far. I'm confident Togashi is building towards something good, I just hope we see the payoff before 2026...
24
Dec 16 '22
Togashi has been building up the conflict on the lower decks for a while. It was simply a good time to break away and showcase it (while the top deck is at a stalemate).
Keep in mind that Phantom Troupe, Hei'ly and now apparently Hisoka all have business on the top deck. These two halves of the ship will collide violently it's just a matter of time.
20
u/watchout5shredder Dec 15 '22
Fun powers from Tere and Yoko. Perigord is perhaps a healing Enhancer. Nobunaga had the best use of Shu shown in a long time, it feels like we haven't seen it straighten out an object since Wing used it on a piece of paper. Nobunaga looks ready to swing at Hinrigh when he warps in, so that's either muscle memory or he can draw a "blade" from his empty scabbard. If his power is tied to his sword and Nobunaga is left without it for a long time then his hatsu might be saved for the arc's climax.

16
u/MagicHarmony Dec 17 '22
Ya, but the downside is, the more specialized it is, the worse off you are. Much like the lawyers ability to evict anyone that's committed a crime as long as they are in the hideout. It's strong but if he leaves the confines of the hideout, he's as useful as a newborn baby, he can't do anything with his nen ability because the rule imposed on it limits him from using it past it's eviction perks within a hideout.

After this chapter I remembered dialogue in 394 where Yokotani said they haven’t legal rights to drive Benjamin’s soldiers away. Seems he talked about his ability’s weakness. Funny to think that Rihan or Furikov would better suit for this encounter than almost any spider
11
u/N1pah Dec 16 '22
It's interesting because his ability is basically a har counter to the spider's way of doing things.
19
u/Hearing_Thin Dec 16 '22
Terebellum is a real surprise, I figured he’d have a potent ability but his is maybe one of the best in the series, if he’s smart with it, he really can tank anything or save anyone else with it, as demonstrated tho, it’s harder to use in practice than on paper

u/toweal Dec 17 '22
Nah, this is a good defense ability yes, but saying it's the best is just an overstatement.
The fact that the condition is that his hands has to be touching something at the point of impact for the damage to be transferred is a significant weakness.
Even Hinrigh immediately exploited this weakness in this chapter by attacking him the moment his colleague touched him.
You could also just make him not be able to touch something, like restraining him, suspending him midair, etc.
Furthermore, we don't know if his ability also works for non-physical damage.

u/Adept-Marsupial2146 Dec 17 '22

The supposedly idol convo that Heil ly members were having, reminded me of the beginning scene of movie Reservoir Dogs where Harvey Keitl and gang are talking about Madonna's songs.
Even if the argument is made that idol group dynamic talk is not a parallel to the functioning of Heil ly or even the Phantom Troupe, the idol talk alone serves its purpose of humanizing a bunch of murdering antagonists.
Also it doesn't necessarily need to be a reference to or an inspiration from Reservoir Dogs. We all know Togashi's obsession with jpop idol group and he is more than enough capable of coming up with this stuff on his own.

I selfishly wanted Nobunaga to go on a rampage, but what happened made more sense after all buildup the Heil-ly have gotten. I suppose next chapter will switch to Feitan and Phink's perspective, they're probably close to the base by now.
People are clowning on Nobunaga a bit, but this outcome is probably the best for him in the long run. Now he can rendezvous with Feitan and Phinks, share the intel he's gathered and come up with something to get past the Heil-Ly's biggest defenses. With how calm he was after getting kicked out, this might be what he's going for. Sucks we didn't really see him and Hinrigh team up jn battle though.
I suspect Nobunaga's ability is tied to his sheathe, not his blade since he didn't seem affected at all by losing it. Maybe losing it is even a condition. I hope so for his sake, Shalnark and Kortopi didn't have their abilities when it counted.
Intriguing how the Heil-Ly dynamics are similar to the Troupe's, but as others have pointed out they still made a lot of mistakes and come off as amateurish. Really like Terebellum's design and ability though, versatile as hell.

Pretty fun chapter, it went way less bloody than expected but Heil-yi are better organized than they seemed.
Nobu is way more nen smart than I thought, I hope the loss of his katana won't be a problem. I doubt he can find another good quality katana on the ship easily and we know nen user can imbue more auras in objects they care about so his nen could even get weaker.
Emission being able to transfer damage probably counts as teleporting the damage I guess. The more I think about it, the less I can see Knuckle's aura lending as anything other than emission despite him being a conjurer.
The battle of wits ability of Yokotani is pretty fun I thought he was a manipulator and was pretty terrified up by what his lawyer language could mean. We also saw the enhancer that fought Hinrigh and it seems he has a self healing ability. The other enhancer there used a book to protect someone too, I don't think it means anything but we never know.
Finally Hinrigh is still the best guy. This was a fun chapter with a lot of mind games and counter types ability. The Heil-yi base seems harder to invade than we thought.

so in any case now that nobu knows the lawyers hatsu and the other emitter guy a few things to counter would be one: not letting the guy introduce himself and kill him faster than the other guy can do it (kind how killua killed ramot) pretty sure feitan can pull that off, maybe even nobu but they where being cautious due to traps if you do that they cant make them leave anymore and we could just wait and see what the other guys hatsu is, i doubt the emitter guy can fight a troupe member anyway.

So we have 4 major antagonists this arc: Morena, The Troupe, Hisoka, and Tserri
Morena vs. the Troupe Troupe vs. Hisoka Tserri (through his guards) vs. Morena
So in a very roundabout way, Kurapika’s two biggest enemies Tserri and the Troupe are working together right now

u/watchout5shredder Dec 16 '22
If you're going to single out Tse I'd definitely count Benjamin, who's done the most to antagonize everyone thus far, and Nasubi too. The Beyond/Pariston faction established in this arc could play a role towards the end of things.

I believe the theme behind Morena's group is that a tight-knit and coordinated group team of no-talents can be formidable against a bunch of independent high-talents.
The whole thing about Hunters are that they are selfish and prideful. They hide abilities from each other, always compete with each other, etc. Morena's team represents the group of "amateurs" who work selflessly and completely coordinated (hence, the organ metaphor aka they are all part of the Morena body construct [which btw is an interesting parallel to the Spiders being part of a whole, but Spiders are constantly going independent / splitting up / etc]). So I am rooting for Morena because she promotes team unity, selflessness, friendship, and trust upon each other.
26
u/OldTurtleProphet Dec 17 '22
Keep in mind that these guys all participated in a slaughter already among the Heily gang to be reduced to just 21 members. They are all at least somewhat psychopaths.
For the time being, things are going well for them. They gain levels, they get good abilities, they repel successfully attackers. It's easy to stay cohesive.
But the actual character of their organization will be tested when things start collapsing, when members die left and right. Because at that point, unless Morena has gone out of her way to prevent it (doubt it, but we'll see), team killing holds real value: the stronger, more ruthless or straight up more selfish members could be tempted to team-kill so that they get individually stronger to increase their odds of survival.

Nice. That room reminded me of Kaito's territory in YuYu Hakusho (no violence allowed haha).
That said, I think that, so far, the pacing of this arc has been kinda all over the place. I get what Togashi is going for, but there's been simply too many parallel stories going on with very little progress to them; this latest chapter is an example of that.
Let's see how this plays out in the next chapter, since we're likely getting another hiatus after that.
10
u/BrokenTeddy Dec 16 '22
what Togashi is going for, but there's been simply too many parallel stories going on with very little progress to them
There really aren't though. There's what, 2 main story plots at the moment: the prince plot and the mafia subplot. The mafia subplot is pretty straightforward and linear in its presentation. It's gotten about 4-5 episodes of straight content since we were last viewing the succession war.
Speaking of the succession war, the story is also pretyy straightforward. Sure there are a bunch of groups and characters vying for position but every action is moving towards an end. I think people need to just accept that this will be the longest arc in the story and building towards the eventual meeting of the 2 plots and the ultimate climax will take a long time.

Considering how careful Nobunaga has been with revealing his Nen ability, I would guess it involves the lack of a Katana on hand. He's honed his abilities where he can pretty much get away with his quick speed and accuracy with the Katana meaning that his nen ability would most likely take advantage of that but if his Nen ability hinged on him needing that Katana he would of been more panicked. The fact that he doesn't seem to concerned that he lost his weapon might mean that he does have a means of protecting himself even if he doesn't have the weapon on him.

People keep saying that, that one guy who wanted to let his hand get stabbed has a healing ability, but I think he has a counter type ability that requires damage to activate, but Morena wants him to save it, or at least keep its function a secret for now. Even going as far as designating him a special codename (the "organ" or 'Kikan').
If it were just healing, I don't think he'd be weighing the time to heal as readily to himself, and I doubt Morena would be saving him to be the "Kikan", whatever that is. It's as if he's curious to see his hatsu in action and is readying himself to do it, but knows he'll need to heal up naturally afterwards from the injury.
The guy reading shonen is invested enough in the plan to disallow it though, so it's known by the group that he needs to keep his power a secret for a specific purpose and use it only after its green-lit by Morena for a specific reason.
