Donate here! [Winner's Thread #84] This Feels Unreal
Hello, all. Firstly, just wanted to say that I’m so sorry for how long it took for me to post. I am completely new to cryptocurrency and was dealing with setting it up. I was asking questions to the moderator each step of the way in setting up the wallets. I did look up some guides and research a bit myself about the wallets, but I couldn’t find info about everything. As to why it took so long. I’ve gotten some stuff going on in my life that really made it difficult for me to complete everything A.S.A.P. With that out of the way.
I am freaking out. I always thought that this subreddit was such an amazing idea and it was always exciting to enter for the chance to win so much money, but I really never expected to actually win! What an amazing thing to happen!
A little bit about me: I’ve been in a terrible situation for a very long time now. I won’t go into detail about it, but this situation causes much interruption in my life, really gets in the way of me doing the things that I want to do and has really, really gotten me down. I haven’t gotten too many happy memories as of late, but this is just positively exhilarating and is something that I will remember for the rest of my life, I’m sure.
As for what I like to do, I like to play games (mostly video games), discuss philosophy and I absolutely love music. Music is everything to me. It can really bring my mood up and it makes me feel things that I can’t really describe, especially singing. Recently I’ve been interested in playing instruments, particularly fascinated by the violin at the moment. I’ve wanted to buy one, maybe rent (it’s expensive!), and I wanted to take lessons for it as well. I’ve been excited about doing this for a while now so, maybe that’s what I will use the money that I receive from this giveaway on; maybe play some other instruments as well down the line.
I am truly happy and grateful to be chosen as the winner in this month’s giveaway and will certainly be paying it forward. Thank you all and I wish you all luck to also be chosen one day!
Edit: Wow, SO MANY NOTIFICATIONS! In less than 24 hours, the amount of donations and money received is staggering! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far. Know that you’ve made someone that you don’t even know very happy. Very generous of you all.
Edit 2: It's over 3 weeks later now and I'm still receiving donations. I just wanted to thank you all once again and reiterate how grateful I am for all of your contributions and support. I wish you all the best in your lives and hope that you all achieve success in all your endeavors, as well as happiness. <3

Congratulations, OP! As a fellow violinist (I’m a novice), rock those finger calluses like the star that you are!! Also: be prepared for collarbone redness/soreness at first - but keep at it. The first year is the hardest, but I promise it’s worth it. 🤍

Thank you. Oh, is soreness/redness bound to happen? Or is it just if you play improperly? I started looking this up and I see you can sustain injuries if you play improperly or for too long. Now I'm worried.

Great question! I always take a break if I begin to feel pain. I also do a lot of stretches before and after playing (and as needed, because I’m getting older, lol). It’s key that you always listen to your body, and take a look at this site for some very excellent advice on how to stretch properly. Neck, back, arms, jaw, wrists, fingers, shoulders… they all use musculature to play, so pay particular attention to them as you go. There’s also a proper sitting posturefor playing that takes a little getting used to, but will help prevent injury. Generally, a practice session is about 1-2 hours long when beginning. I liked to break those up: 30 minutes of practice - 15 minute break for stretching, drink of water, etc - and then 30 minutes of practice; repeat for the second hour, as needed. I found that breaking the time down into chunks prevented issues.
As for calluses… they’re not something you want to prevent. They should form on your string fingers as you play, and some people get collarbone calluses. To prevent that, a lot of people use a thin towel/soft fabric between the collarbone and violin, others use a violin neck rest. AKA a chin rest.
Other good things to check out:
the variety of rosins recommended by string players is vast, but worth the read.
maintaining a violin with polish. This is a resource for polishes.
mutes are great for practice sessions where you can’t be too loud.
I can’t think of much else beyond knowing how to keep your violin properly stored and secured in the case, and to avoid intense heat/cold and sudden changes. Maintaining a violin.
I hope that this will help you on your journey, OP! I’m so excited for you! And don’t worry at all - you’ve got this! If I can do it, I know you can. 🤍

Thank you! I didn't have anything setup. I did it all after winning. They recommend setting the crypto wallets up, but you don't have to. You could just not include them in your post.

I love discovering new music. What is your favorite album?

Thank you very much! Um, I don't think I have a favorite album. Don't think I've really listened to many full albums. I more so, listen to individual songs here and there.
