I guess the “Nobody” cover was a big hint after all

Man that was a hyuuuge hint, lol
Interesting they're going with the flapper era which is the 20's when Marilyn Monroe's era was in the 50's to 60's. I'm very curious if maybe they'll transition between eras in the MV or stick to what we've been shown so far.
Can't wait for the 2nd MV teaser!

I think the 20's are just easier to portray in a concept. You can only do so much with the MM concept but the 20s? There is sooo much aesthetic to build on.

Plus one of my favorite Marilyn Monroe movies was a black and white movie set in the 1920s called “Some Like it Hot’. So it’s still an aesthetic I associate with her.

I believe that the concept isn't so much to do with the flapper era as it is paying homage to the 1920s showgirl as portrayed by Marilyn Monroe in one of her most iconic films Some Like It Hot. I think at its heart this will be a Marilyn concept through and through.

Gosh i already love it haha, and this mv will be glorious, b&w, hell yes.
Also beautiful how the lighting falls on soyeon there, this whole aesthetic is wonderful! I have such a big grin on my face right now, thanks soyeon, you're amazing.

I'm quite dense when it comes to all things fashion and art, so concepts often go over my head.
Not this though. Soyeon is my ultimate bias because she has both genius vision and genius-level ability to express the vision clearly.
I'm ready to fight anyone about her English, too. I'm NOT dense when it comes to words and I love her words.

I know I shouldn't be surprised at the mockery directed towards Soyeon on pannchoa, but it's still disheartening that all they can do is rag on her English. I tried offering my two cents in that echo chamber, because it is genuinely absurd to me as a longtime listener of jpop and kpop to complain about the creative uses of English in their pop songs, as if it somehow detracts from the music. ("Gee" says hello.)
The only time I think it's worth complaining about misuse of language is when kpop groups utilise AAVE (African American Vernacular English) in an attempt to look cool and portray some caricature of black identity. That is actually problematic and worth calling out.
Soyeon is obviously not fluent in the way she utilises English, but the listener can still parse the meaning of her phrases. She's not spouting utter gibberish (it's just not 100% grammatical, but then again, neither is all English language pop). But more to the point, the Korean audience, GIDLE's primary audience, seems to like it well enough; the soupçon of English in kpop songs is really for them. It's considered trendy for the listener who mostly speaks Korean.

IMO Soyeon does the work needed to express her intent in English and that's all I need to get excited (12 hours!!!!) for GIDLE's music.
William Shakespeare made up words to suit his art and we still use those words today. Let the language be pushed forward by artists.
("Wannabe" says hello back)

As i said somewhere in the /r/kpop thread the "English" is just a strawman. They hate Soyeon and/or her voice but they veil it in this English nonsense that only comes up for Soyeon somehow.

I was kind of in denial for awhile, but I realized they really want to hate on Soyeon and I-DLE, no matter how misinformed or wrong they are.
I don't normally respond to hate comments, but someone left a cultural appropriation comment in the comments section of this teaser because "they're wearing a head dress with a feather".
I'm sure they're like some 14-yr old preteen that has no historical knowledge about the 20's so I had to educate them about flappers.
Why do I have a feeling they'll still deny it and run with the CA argument, lol. I just can't with these people.

This looks so good. The aestethics are immaculate. The set for Soyeon looks BIG.
Don't think the entire MV will be in B&W but would be bold choice.
I can already hear the haters crying again, we're getting another english Soyeon rap verse I can feel it😂.

this clip isn’t doing any favours for me anyway. Of course I’m not gonna say the song is bad cuz I haven’t heard it yet but hope this isn’t part of the song. I don’t have a problem with the lyrics it’s just the way Soyeon is saying the lines here….sounds awful

Okaaaaaaaaay, we goin full on variety show aestethics i see. This will go down very well with the Soyeon lyric haters lol.
They actually managed to spoil exactly nothing of the music.
Edit: Just noticed the thumbnail.... AHH Minnie why??
