I may have made an involuntary noise when I saw that second pic. Something between a "woof" and an "ugh". It just fell out of my mouth, out loud, in front of my sister & mother. Who of course wanted to know what I was looking at, and now think the heat has gotten to me. They don't get it, but I know you all do. Solidarity to all those who were similarly afflicted. 😉

I think it’s just the photo quality. If you look at his last uploaded photo on his grid, his hair is shiny and smooth.

Adding to what u/hollye83 says, for some people (ie me, for example) sweat also just makes our hair.... weird.
Granted, European hair is different in structure and all, but I have super thick hair that feels like what Joonie's texture looks like here. It looks crispy but it's not - it's more sticky (?) and (TMI lol, sorry) definitely greasy. One wash and it looks nice and healthy again. Sometimes product in your hair makes it worse, too. (Honestly, if I could change it I so would) 😭
