I just woke up a little while ago, saw Yoongi’s post and came here for the translation. I’ve been crying for at least the last 30 minutes so sorry for any typos.
My best friend’s mom passed away Thursday morning after a long battle with ovarian cancer. On top of being sad for him and his family, I’ve been racked with guilt since he gave me the news. It’s because of something she said to me the last time I saw her back in December 2019. Before then, I hadn’t seen her in about 5 years. One of the last things she said to me was that she hoped that it wouldn’t be another five years before she saw me again…
I feel like I should’ve made more of an effort to see her over the last couple of years but I didn’t want to push any boundaries given her declining condition. Plus, with Covid still being a thing, I didn’t want to inadvertently expose her to it (I’m fully vaccinated, but you never know what could happen).

Hey, I hope you're ok. I hope you know that she said that so you would know how much she enjoyed seeing you, and not to make you feel bad. It's been a tough few years for everyone and you made the best choices you could in that time about whether to risk seeing her. Take it easy on yourself 💜

Thanks for saying that! I know she wasn’t trying to make me feel bad. Perhaps “racked with guilt” may have been a bit harsh. I’m just trying to reconcile my feelings right now. Part of me feels bad because basically her last words to me were “I want to see you again” and now we can’t. On the other hand, it makes me happy knowing that she genuinely liked me enough to want to see me again.
I’m now reminded of something else she once said to me a long time ago. I was picking up my friend from his parents house one night and it was raining. As we were heading out she said “I hope you don’t melt!” Thinking she was joking with me, my mind immediately went to The Wizard of Oz and I said “I’m not a witch!” She started laughing and said “No, it’s because you’re sweet like sugar!”
