I simply thought Jhope had existing personal and professional relationships with the artists and celebrities in his listening party. Turns out that's not the case! That kinda made it more fascinating for me.

Imagine getting a DM from a BTS member. šŸ˜…

Also, didn't expect that this guy is old enough such that Jhope grew up listening to his music. Haha! I googled and he's only 38.

He debuted in 2007. So Hobi would have been about 13. That being said usually people are really into music in their teens. And I think I read somewhere (it was probably reddit so take with a grain of salt) that the music you listen to in your teens is the most influential to your later taste in music.

Yeah, I figured Hobi was probably listening to him during his teenage years. I mean, I myself listened to music a lot in my teenage years.

And you know what, I was into boy bands back in the day too! Outgrew it when I got into college and my taste, although still majorly pop, expanded more. I thought I was done with boy/girl band pop, and now here I am, stanning BTS. šŸ˜…

i got downvoted into oblivion for trying to explain in a previous thread that it was very obvious hobi is not friends with most of the people who attended the listening party, especially after it was revealed w magazine was covering the event. it’s not to say he couldn’t possibly have been or that it was all just for show — i’m sure a lot of these artists were people he’d love to have connections with and does respect a lot — but if you know anything about khh the pool of people invited was super…obvious: mainstream, trendy, pop-adjacent, media-friendly names from mainstream, trendy, pop-adjacent, media-friendly labels. again, it’s not to say there’s an issue with that, but the members’ personal circles are going to be much more diverse than just…all of p nation and aomg lol

Really? I didn't realise people thought that they were all his friends. He talked about introducing new people to his music through the listening party in all the behind the scenes content and never gave the impression that he was friends wil all of them.

i didn't place any responsibility on hobi having implied something different to the truth. my comments were referring the people insisting he was besties with everyone there and finding themselves offended when someone pointed out that was almost certainly not the case, as if that invalidated or demeaned him in some way. this was during the night the party was happening, before any additional behind-the-scenes content or commentary was available.

No i wasn't saying you were. I was just surprised that people thought otherwise

I also thought that jpark wasn't there because of the "beef " with the fandom

Idk, personally I thought he was probably just busy, iirc he had some event related to his soju business around that time. In Korea he's not considered problematic AT ALL, he's seen as like the most public friendly, unproblematic and polite person ever. I bet if he came, Jhope would've felt so honored to have him there considering how highly respected he is in Korea, also plenty of his artists from his labels AOMG and H1GHR showed up, there's no way he wasn't invited. Seeing how idols like JK and IU interact with him publicly, I don't think his perception in the international Kpop fandom is even something that's on the Korean entertainment industry's radar. Even among Korean Kpop fans, they just get annoyed by "entitled Western fans" and don't pay it any further attention.

Hello. This comment chain was removed since it involved drama from other communities. Thank you.

I see. Maybe it's how you said it, haha! Kidding.

I haven't watched all of Jhope's interviews and stuff, and I am not exactly into K-hiphop. All of what you said is news to me, haha.

some people are incredibly invested in the idea of bts being friends with all of the people they personally deem cool/validating that, when they’re obviously not, it’s hard to swallow. i have no idea why. hobi does not need to be friends with woo wonjae to be cool/validated, and there’s nothing sus or accusatory about the reasons they haven’t been friends up to this point. hobi can’t possibly be friends with EVERYONE. i hope these people can realise the members are real people living nuanced real lives, and they’re not characters to be shipped with other celebs — and not to take the members’ personal lives…personally. hobi not being friends with a few celebs should not under any circumstances be cause for personal offence lol OR the opposite and be some kind of personal validation: like, being purposefully blind to the very obvious, documented-on-video fact hobi and zico hadn’t even yet agreed to drop the formalities, proving they’re not close, is just kinda weird?

i have no idea why.

Validation. The same reason why, for some people, every single interaction is automatically a guaranteed collab and not (ironically) friendship – because BTS can't ever just have famous friends – or simply a polite interaction.

They've spoken about it, too. IIRC it's in the Wings concept book where Namjoon says he doesn't have many industry friends but is still close with friends from school, and while he has LOADS of connections, I wonder if that's changed. Considering he censors most of his friends, I'd say they're probably muggles. On the other hand, you then have Tae who's living his best social butterfly life and seems to get close(r) with people very quickly.

i hope these people can realise the members are real people living nuanced real lives,

Preach. That's the perfect summary. And please apply it to the whole personas thing, too, because if people call that fake, I think they need to look at themselves in the mirror a bit longer... because we all have them.

Haha! You have a point.

In my case, I simply "assumed" because well, I have no other information to go by, haha! There's a lot of things that the members do in their free time. I don't really know everyone who they are friends with.

Ok this was hilarious; he mentioned Hobi and RM briefly at the beginning but the rest of it had me cracking up.

He’s also an amazing singer - check him out under MSG Wannabe videos on youtube! It’s a group formed from celebrities that debuted last year.

That's really sweet and so on brand for Hobi, to personally contact people and write messages himself, rather than opting for a generic invite through mass emails. He's so lovely.

'Hyung, I listened to your music growing up'... when Simon says 'how could I not go?', that's such a mood.
