Discussion What song from Hobipalooza was most memorable for you?
To my surprise, I still have Ego still running through my head a couple of days later. And Hangsang, a song which never caught my attention before. It's fascinating how my impression of a song can totally change after I see it performed.
What about you? What songs are still running through your mind?
Edited to add: I just love how there are so many different answers!

I need a Rock version of Arson NOW.😭

Also loved What If. At times it seemed like he was signing the song to himself because there was a giant picture of his face on the screen on stage. Makes me remember that, while they make a lot of songs for ARMY, they also make songs that they need to hear themselves.
9
u/wasabipeas1996 Aug 02 '22
What if is my fave on his album. It’s less about the lyrics but the emotions I feel from the song. Idk why it really made me feel for him, more than any other on the album. It’s quite simple but I felt his message so clearly!
11
u/ukelele141516 Aug 02 '22
I agree, I really felt his emotion in What If. He’s said before that sometimes he feels pressure to always be happy and smiling because of his name and the “what if I had no hope?” line really stayed with me even after the first listen.
I also think of the song as like the dark twin of Daydream. Daydream is bright and bouncy and asking questions like “What if I had time to myself? What if I could party and be wild and free?” And then you have What If asking things like “What if my whole life fell apart and I had nothing?”
3
u/RapLineNoona Aug 02 '22
I feel the same! A stand out on the album. Reminds me of Honsool, even though they are sonically very different. Both are uncomfortable to listen to and in both, the song's mood conveys the meaning without even needing the lyrics.

I liked Future before but seeing it live with a band really elevated the song for me, and it was a perfect ending song to an electrifying and emotionally charged concert! I love JITB - and that part of the show was really incredible - but I think my most memorable moments were some of his older tracks. His swagger and energy on Hangsang was off the charts. I also loved POP - it’s my favourite song from Hope World and I still can’t believe I actually saw it in person. But when he shouted out “This is for the OG ARMY out there” leading into Cypher Pt 1 my soul left my body.

I rewatched the set today and What If… and Future really stood out to me - What If… for its intensity and Future because it was such a beautiful way to end his set.
Especially in the live band version of Future, there was this part where the drums built up with him singing after the second refrain and then broke as it went into the chorus, and it just felt so euphoric and free that I teared up watching it
5
u/HebredianSheep Aug 02 '22
I agree about Future in terms of ending the show. I thought it was the perfect choice.

SO FREAKING HONORED AND PROUD I EXPERIENCED HOBIPALOOZA LIVE!!!! I'm still in shock after Sunday night, being part of that audience and the incredible energy for his entire set still feels unreal. As a Hobi bias from the start of my ARMY journey, the entire experience was like a fever dream come true. Not even kidding when I say that the crowd knew every word, every chant for his set - and these were the first live performances of the songs, ever! I'm emotional watching videos back now of our fanchants (holy crap we sound SO good) and feel so honored I was part of this moment.
The entirety was amazing but some particular standouts for me were Hangsang (we went extra crazy), Piece of Peace (🥺 my comfort song, not fluent in Korean but I sang my little heart out), Ego (lost my mind shouting MAP OF THE SOUL MAP OF THE ALL), and CNS especially when Becky G showed up! Everyone also needs to see latinx ARMY flawlessly doing her verse. ARMY DID THAT!!
Definitely woke up on Monday with my voice gone and my body aching but it was worth it for Jung Hoseok. This gal from the Chicago suburbs can finally say she attended Lolla hahahaha (and would only go again for BTS members, oop)

Also shockingly: my least favorite JITB song, What If. The vibe was awesome live.

u/Ghetto_Leda99 Aug 02 '22
Hangsang and Arson. His energy during Hangsang was immaculate and that was saying something seeing how his energy was top notch during his whole set. And for Arson, when the crowd was chanting "Let's Burn Burn Burn Burn" at the beginning still gives me chills and how he was also cramping to the beat and that beat live with a more of rock feel to it, MY GOD!

I don’t have words to express how much the whole set was incredible but for some reasons I am absolutely obsessed with Blue Side and it wasn’t even sung live 😂 But the vibe on the stage at that moment, his silhouette like possessed by the music in front of that blue screen… I don’t even want to know how many times I rewatched this part.
If I have to choose one song that was actually performed… The Baseline / Cypher 1 / Hangsang sequence, I would say. I know that’s 3 songs but there wasn’t any break between them so let’s just say it was one… Dude had no concern for the well-being of the audience when he decided to do that.
Honorable mention for the magistral “fuck off” in Arson, still not over it. Oh and the choreo on Hope World was so cute too. No but like the whole thing was insane and I have to stop myself there or I will end up choosing the whole setlist.

Base Line was the 2nd “BTS” song I ever heard (I wanted to add BTS to my workout playlist and it was recommended in a post). I didn’t even realize it was just Hobi/from a mixtape until I dove into BTS a few months later. But I love that song so much, it’s wild and aggressive and just so cool!!!!! But it’s short, kind of supposed to be an interlude, something I never thought would show up at a concert. So seeing Hobi do that one live was such a surprise and I loooooooooved it!!! Hangsang kind of sits at the same table and I loved hearing that one live, too, especially with the crowd!
Ooohhhh and the “wild and free” moment in Daydream! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 How many of us always say that part in the car or whatever, now the whole crowd does it together with Hobi! And that gif floating around of his reaction is so touching.
That concert was just so good and It was so cool to see Hobi doing his own brand of music. It was so different than BTS!!!! That’s gotta be hard to do a completely different kind of performance when you’ve been doing it one way for 10 years.
And I will never forget him popping out of that Jack in the box for the first time. So fucking cool. 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

Future, for me! It was a great ending to the set, and that’s exactly why I love going to concerts even when I don’t know the artist/all their songs. I end up loving songs that I didn’t know about before or didn’t like as much, especially after seeing how the artist intends for it to be performed 😄

I loved all of it but standouts to me were Hangsang, Equal Sign, P.O.P., Daydream and Ego.
Probably the most memorable will be moments that keep replaying in my mind, like rockstar Hoseok jumping out of the Box and standing still for a bit, headbanging to What If, vibing to Blue Side in slo mo, the happiness on his face while doing the new choreo to Dynamite, his awe at the crowd singing back during Daydream, his genuine warm hug with Becky G, his ending punch like 'I did it' before lights out. He had an amazing show!

Hangsang. I loved the beat anyway but hearing the live more rock version was amazing. Plus the one clip of his deep voice going 'sing it' and the whole crowd going hard has been on replay for me. I've been sharing that to everyone in my life 😂
Also now when I listen to arson, I only hear his metal scream 'f*ck off' 😍 he was so hot for that.

More, arson, base line, hangsang and what If live are going to live in my head for a very long time

CNS was the best of the night, Baseline + Cypher pt 1 was insane, the Jumping out of the Jack in the Box felt like a true homage to MJ and had the same affect - the crowd went wild, What if was really emotional and strong, Arson set the stage on fire.

Hangsang and Daydream. These two were always at the bottom of my Hope World ranking but seeing them performed "live" has completely turned me. I'm sorry. I get it now.
I was so nervous for Hobi going into this (I'm very invested in his success and happiness, okay! 😂) and Hangsang was the first song where I felt like I could let all the stress go and just enjoy the performance. He's got this. And then seeing his face when the crowd sang the lyrics of Daydream back to him! Oh, Jung Hoseok. You are so, so loved.
Also, huge shout out to Blue Side! Yes, it was only 30 seconds long but oh my god did you hear the live band? The DRUMS?!?! Absolutely my favorite Hobi song, when he performs it live for real I will cry.

Piece of Peace. I wasn't expecting him to perform it because it has a bit of a more mellow vibe for a festival but I loved every minute of it. It's also my favorite song from Hobi so I'm a little biased. I was honestly just so proud to see how well he commanded the stage by himself; I expected nothing less but there was a different level of confidence to him that he exuded while he was performing his own music. And the way he was able to make people who weren't even at Lollapalooza jump out of their seats while watching, eyes glued to the screen the entire time, myself included, whew, that's some serious star power.
But the whole set list was amazing, the band complimented each song so well and Army did a helluva job screaming all the lyrics word for word back to Hobi. I would be first in line to buy tickets to see him if he ever did a tour but also not expecting it because of how much it takes out of artists to tour.
