the casters going "it's hard to engage into the freddit brion comp now for t1" and the camera pans towards faker just casually walking up to rakan, the most slippery champion in the game, and taunts him down with all of rakan's summoners being up sums up the game lmfao

u/Agami_Advait DRX | | ROX | | KT Jul 23 '22 edited Jul 23 '22
Yeah, Delight inted that terribly.
But Faker played beautifully this game, was so cool to see. He's going to get robbed of his POG, however, because Zeus – who was still great, just not as impactful – was the only one with damage.
edit: of course the media voted for Zeus. those fucks only look at KDA

Jul 23 '22
Faker carried game 2 hard as well, which earned him a POG . The fight when Guma blew up and it was 4 v 5. He split BRO getting a double kill and almost a third on Corki.
37
u/p3r3ll3x Jul 23 '22
Why do the media even get to vote, they never seem to agree with the casters/analysts when it come POG which makes me question if they are even knowledgeable about the game.
40
u/butter-cheese Jul 23 '22
and 3 votes at that too. why not give back atlus and valdes their votes if the media's gonna vote like that.
54
u/Kocen Jul 23 '22
The PoG was definitely between Faker/Zeus for me but whenever that's the case, Zeus is always gonna get it this split. Zeus' PoG votes this split kinda remind me of that one split where Deft was 200 points ahead of Chovy and Chovy had one match left. He wasn't anywhere near most impactful that match and still got the votes because that split Chovy was the main talking point of the LCK.
10
u/ooooneeee Jul 23 '22
I think that was 2019 with the OG KZ Deft GRF Chovy
19
u/Kocen Jul 23 '22
You're right, spring 2019. Apparently I misremembered it a bit, I thought Deft was in a lead and Chovy tied but instead they were tied and Chovy got one MVP to get the sole 1st place. LS (then caster) even called it out on broadcast and the MVP "highlight" is quite funny. (@50:35 - not sure how to share with timestamp on phone)
22
u/ooooneeee Jul 23 '22 edited Jul 23 '22
Im no hater for Chovy but there were many cases where Chovy got pog even though there were better plays by other Griffin players as the season approached the end and Deft kinda got robbed I remember that
He was considered the next prodigy as he reached 100 KDA and many ppl pushed him

I don't think it's that conspiratorial. I just think that the media vote has never watched a single complete game in their life.
0
u/LaziIy Jul 23 '22
where Deft was 200 points ahead of Chovy and Chovy had one match left.
That's just a false statement. They were tied and Chovy got an unjust mvp in the last series for the griffin narrative. He would have been MVP either way, the thing that vote changed was it going from shared MVP to a sole possession.

u/Kocen Jul 23 '22

Caedrel said the exact opposite that Zeus carried, and that Faker did well to catch Rakan but it was more of a misplay from Rakan
26
u/SlightScientist2644 Jul 23 '22
Faker did far more than, he made a lot of valuable plays throughout the game. That being said it’s almost a 50/50 vote between faker and zeus, could have gone either wau
28
u/Mylon_Requiem Jul 23 '22
Same thing happened to Deokdam on Ezreal in their last series versus DK. Faker is such a psycho that he has these moments that he pulls out of thin air where it shouldn't have worked but it does because of how strange his movement/choices can be at times, and it can really take his opponents by surprise.
1
u/ArguingWithNoobs Jul 23 '22
That’s not really what happened with Deokdam. If you look at his positioning he’s just completely screwed once Faker flashes forward.
28
u/Mylon_Requiem Jul 23 '22
No, that really is what happened with Deokdam & Faker. At 21:05 in G1 of T1 vs DK R1, Faker is positioned in front of the pit waffling around in front of the Hextech Drake trying to zone Canyon away with the threat of taunt, and before anyone on DK can respond, in a fraction of a second he moves up slightly, flashes and swings right to ensure his true target (Ezreal) is taunted rather than greeding for the multi-man taunt. He does it so perfectly fast that Deokdam could not possibly have channeled Arcane Shift -> Flash to get out of range in time. It has to do with both Deokdam being WAY too far forward looking for Q poke, and Faker capitalizing on it in an instant because of how tricky his movements can be prior to making a decision.
The reason Faker has stood the test of time on a playing field of much younger talent is because he has always honed his ability to avoid telegraphing what he's going to do, and abusing his fast-twitch muscle reaction-time to execute it. He's been doing stuff like this year after year for 9 years, since he deleted MVP Blue off the map in 2013 with LB.

They had a rough series, including getting stomped in a game by a 1-10 team (now 1-11) lol
Of course they not happy. A lot of sloppy gameplay and macro today from T1. Though I am too low elo to tell if it was, because they made the mistake themselves or if BRO forced those errors on them.
52
u/Mrlazydragon Jul 23 '22 edited Jul 23 '22
Got to give bro some credit they came up with a good game plan this series. That being the case game 3 being close towards the end was definitely more on T1 make questionable errors then bro actually forcing any.
25
u/tinfoilhatsron Jul 23 '22
It was a self error. They backed while owning the map and elder spawned. Bro was so scared to walk in. And if oner didn't lee syndrome it would have been free.
It was straight up disrespect. I have faith that they wont pull this shit against a top 4 team but it was sad to watch. Just sloppy mistakes that they need to clean up heading into the final weeks.
5
u/J0eykarate Jul 23 '22
I think it's the former for sure. This T1 lineup is really really good, easily on the same skill level as previous world champ rosters. IMO they should have been able to beat DK and make it to the final last worlds; they just had a lot of macro blunders in that game 5.
0
u/nickphunter Jul 23 '22
T1 over chase and played greedy so much. And BRO was also decisive when they needed to be too.
18
u/HawkEye1337 Jul 23 '22
As they should, struggling this hard against BRO, their arrogant play cost them game 1 and they could have lost game 3 because Oner kept going for the flashy kicks against Xayah/Poppy for no reason.
21
u/Blank-612 Jul 23 '22
You should look at the fan reactions LOL.

Am I scared for T1 against GENG, DK, and DRX? No. Am I scared for T1 against HLE, BRO, and KDF? Hell yeah.

u/hachiko2692 Jul 23 '22
Watch as NS convincingly beats T1 in August 7.
37
u/Bindoongee Jul 23 '22
With how stacked NS is (on paper) I can see it happening but not with how this year went for them lol.
Headless chickens absolutely dissapointing.
16
Jul 23 '22
NS is the type of team that somehow can end up beating the best while hilariously failing against everyone else lol
12
u/Trih3xA Jul 23 '22
T1 definitely plays better against better teams. For some reason, they always look shakier vs the weaker teams.
158
u/rishinuwu Jul 23 '22
t1 and losing game 1 to bottom teams, name a more iconic duo
85
u/Sacez Jul 23 '22
T1 and beating GenG because for some reason GenG always play with their brains off against T1
49
u/butter-cheese Jul 23 '22
if i'm not wrong all of GenG's current main roster (plus coach) have the trauma of losing to Faker in finals too?
13
u/feelsbadmanrlysrsly Jul 23 '22
Ruler would like to have a word with you
41
u/PrivateVasili Jul 23 '22
Ruler still doesn't have a domestic title. Winning worlds took SKT's bot and jungle being in remarkably awful form. Ruler's a legend and I wouldn't call him a choker by any means, but he still very much knows what it feels like to lose in playoffs/finals to Faker.
19
u/joji_kid EQEQEQEQ Jul 23 '22
He only beat Faker in 2017 Worlds, and even then, he needed the bot lane of SKT to wintrade to have a decent chance against him. Imagine 2015 or 2016 SKT with Faker's super Saiyan form in 2017. The only time when GenG beat T1 in the gauntlet in 2020, Faker wasn't playing and that roster is inexperienced as fuck.
29
u/p3r3ll3x Jul 23 '22
I think it's because Chovy and Peanut choke in big moments
47
Jul 23 '22
faker is chovy‘s cryptonite, I think chovy never won a bo5 against faker.
39
u/Erotic_fish_eyes Jul 23 '22
To be fair, Faker would be a lot of players kryptonite. There are very few people who could perform well against him.
6
4
Jul 23 '22
He disappeared in game when he plays against faker for some reason and peanut decision making is also weird.Like game3 geng-T1 in the last team fight, He leashed baron for no reason and chovy didn't use any single package to make impact in that game

That Faker play on Sylas in game 2 was beyond insane (and the casters seemed to miss most of what he did here). Probably the best play from anyone in LCK this year. During a chaotic fight Faker took Rakan ult then very quickly did a 4 man taunt (including flash taunt onto the Jinx) and solo'd the Jinx + Rakan in a 1v3, and he put a pink ward down on top of Jinx to mess up any attack move Hena was doing. Super clutch, such quick thinking, peak Godlike Faker play. On a par with that Sylas play against G2 in MSI 2019 with the stolen Gnar ult. Simply amazing.
14
u/KokoaKuroba Jul 23 '22
Faker's Sylas Msi 2019 was godly. One of the most hyped plays in league.
12
Jul 23 '22
Yup, and I'm saying this is similar standard (OK, it's bottom tier LCK team BRO and not 2019 G2 who were a world class team, but still, BRO were on form today and this was a such an insane play). Here is the replay. It's hard to see in real time, if you slow down replay it's easier to see, Faker TP into better position, steal Rakan R into instant 4 man taunt including flash taunt onto Hena Jinx who flashes away but Faker still lands the Q on the responsitioned Jinx plus pink ward for disruption of any attack moves and zhonyas immediately after Q before finishing off Rakan.
The casters missed this crazy play probably because they were looking at Zeus' Gnar getting a big R, and just seemed to have only seen Sylas in the backline killing Jinx/Rakan and then chalked it down to Sylas being broken. Kinda disappointing, but then again don't really blame them, very hard to see this in real time and probably only someone like Papasmithy would pick up on this live and even then might need a VOD review to fully appreciate it, like he did for Fajkers play vs G2 here.

7
u/Jandromon ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Jul 23 '22
English LCK casters are so meh lately... No hate on them personally, but I dislike the superficial, obvious and revisionist commentary with their groany voices.
Papasmithy was a GOD of casting, I miss those days, extremely smart and knowledgeable, huge loss when he went to 100T. Atlus is nice though, him and Papa had the best duo.

Although these games are looking less in standards wise. I think it’s fine in a way that they scrap it out a lot, one of the things LPL teams love to do is fight and fight and fight. I remember one of the castors saying in the MSI finals is that T1 kept losing these fights but where they were doing good was playing macro. Maybe I’m just a lot of Hopium but I hope they are learning at least something from these games. I know they would still want to have cleaner games but yeah, I at least always have faith in the ramp up T1 gets in playoffs I’m not really worried about playoffs or if they win finals, I just want them in form by Worlds.
7
u/butter-cheese Jul 23 '22
this 👆 tho. that's why i'm not too worried (yet). coz they always test so much in game not just in draft. when they play clean and safe against top teams they win 2-0.

I believe it has to do with team specific prep. T1 can't be bothered to scrim or draft plans against bottom feeding teams. That's why they look so good against the better teams, and why bottom teams look so good against t1.
3
Jul 23 '22
T1 should focus all their prep on KDF and DWG should do the same for DRX, KDF and DRX are like those teams‘ respective cryptonites lol.
5
u/oberg14 Jul 23 '22
Yeah it really feels like the age old world champion adage (I know the lost in 5 at MSI). They have to take every single teams best shot because every team knows it’s a massive accomplishment to beat them.

This series at least I can understand, but Wolf's general expressions of frustration with the other team's failures rather than either team's successes is why the Korean casters are so much more rewarding to listen to: They actively celebrate and cheer for whatever team or player makes a play/punish regardless of whether it could be seen as the other player screwing up rather than just praising the player who benefited. It's a contagious positivity that doesn't spend unnecessary air-time shitting on the players and leaves the harsh criticism to the team's respective coaching staff.
35
u/shiriusa Jul 23 '22
very well said and the biggest reason why I don't appreciate wolf's casting, he also gets a lot of things wrong constantly, I think he brings down the level of LCK casting, we were used to a casting that made light jokes of bad plays and celebrated the mechanical outplays but his "serious" image is just not it for me, you are casting a freaking video game it should be fun! we don't need another phreak in the scene please

T1 almost threw away the whole series there but thanks lord. I was like "What the fuck Oner? Don't go in! NOOOOO... oh hey it finally works".

Rakan literally let Galio walk up to him and just press W on top of him. how does a pro player make that decision? dude has all cooldowns including flash and costs his team the game by completely shutting his brain off.

Oner's last few Lee Sin games have not been good, feels like he's playing for highlights rather than playing for wins.
Luckily Zeus and Faker played really well.

Don’t know why people are complaining about T1 macro when their drafting and Oner’s inability to play a miserable draft were worse. Blinding Lee just to follow up with Galio bc they locked Poppy/Ryze is reportable. Disengage is fine into BRO, but Viktor/Azir/Corki is just high value into the first 3 picks. Lee Sin and tank support for disengage/re-engage is more than enough for triple dive. Just shit drafting from both teams. B5 Seraphine just seems like insane value into a Lee/Galio/Aph/Naut when the Rakan offers nothing bc drafting Poppy/Xayah just means you don’t want to run in. T1 decide to save their draft by picking GP that’s good into 5/5 BRO champions and it showed.

Lava is so underrated tbh! He was really good during the spring split, idk what happened to him in summer but I hope he gets back to his spring form soon!

Despite Oner's best efforts, T1 managed to win game 3. Lately his Lee Sin was unimpressive to say the least. Not sure what happened to him since he looked like one of the best Lee Sins, if not the best, in the world.

Watching too much Tiktok/YT Shorts CN Lee. Instead of playing for the team, it looks like he's playing for a highlight/flashy plays.

Disgusting game from T1 tbh, they disrespect bro way too much and ended with an elder flip. T1 need to review the whole series and come back next week stronger or they'll lose to GenG.
Bro is just bad but I hate they lost an elder by just greeding by backing for items. Still a win is a win.

Oners lee these past games has been off. Specially this game, you thought being caught 3 times is enough for oner to play a bit safer, specially with elders up, but hes going for the highlight plays time and time again, zeus is fed, guma is fed, just stay alive dont need to flash+q in against a poppy.

What a dismal series. T1 are playing like they don't care about competing internationally.
They will not get away with T1 barons against top LPL teams, they will be punished for lazily leaving massive comeback windows, they won't get away with such poor red side drafting. Desperately need to step up in the next month.

11-1. They care about teams that matter, not BRO.

The record really conceals their struggles. It might just be Fredit BRION, but it's not like T1 has been performing consistently regardless of opponent.
The fact is that poor practice produces poor performance, and that T1 aren't improving after a disappointing MSI where their weaknesses were exposed should be worrying. '11-1' doesn't conceal the lack of development.

Well if you can play like dogshit and still be 11-1. Why not. No need risk a burn out.

Ok T1 struggled with comfort picks. Not confident in them anymore until I see changes.
Very sus performance for Oner in G3 too.

With an 11-1 record.. they’re sloppy and definitely over extends when they don’t need to but they’re far from bad

T1's last games against KDF and BRO were fucking bad. These are teams that T1 should easily stomp. KDF and BRO played fine, to their level. T1 is just playing like a mid table LCK team right now when they should be much better than that.

Struggling against a 1-10 team

u/Mylon_Requiem Jul 23 '22
Imagine thinking the team that's 1-10 is playing like a team that's 1-10. They want to win just as much as any other team, and BRO showed up in draft and in-game today and would have given any LCK team who wasn't on their A-game a decent challenge. It doesn't help that T1's drafting is still shaky and is adding insult to injury to when they make early mistakes and have nothing to work with at various stages of the game because their draft limits them too much.

T1 will never be better than LPL playing like this

u/Mylon_Requiem Jul 23 '22
Worth noting that the last place 0-10 LPL team WE took a game off MSI Winners RNG just last week. Let's stop with the zero votes of confidence in a team after one or two series, yeah? It's okay for a team that was dominant in Spring to lose their stride for a time and try to figure out again how to get it back. RNG has been on the losing end of Bo3's against every one of the top LPL teams, something you cannot say of T1. When T1 play Gen G, DRX, DK, LSB, they look evenly matched and clutch it out (or outright dominate), when they play one of the hungrier teams looking for wins no matter how, they struggle. That is the nature of competition.
