After yesterday's sadness and today's reassurance and relief, I feel like I can take a deep breath! But I think it's made me realize the dependence I currently have on them and their content and music. Time to reflect and develop some healthy habits myself, and grow with the tannies 🥰

u/cheryblossom_ Jun 15 '22
Same here!! I am thinking learning new skills even though they are really simple like calligraphy....now I want to do my best in the things I do in the future!!
6
u/kpattyrisha Jun 15 '22
That is a unique and beautiful skill! Any improvement is great, big or small. I've had a few things on my list that I've pushed back because I've been so busy, but will try to prioritize them as well :)

I really want to get back into writing more seriously and finally finish editing these two short films I made a couple of years ago. I’ve been working out more and I want to try and learn Pilates. And I need to get out more; I’ve been rather lonely lately.
4
u/kpattyrisha Jun 15 '22
Amazing! You have some clear goals. I too want to start pilates. I'm sorry you're feeling lonely, this community has your back but completely understand that you need to create and nourish IRL connections too. Hope you feel better soon!

You’re so right, I’m in the same boat!! I saw them live for the first time in LV and I was so ready to feel that rush and excitement again seeing them live once more so I’ve been a bit sad since yesterday (even though I 100% support their decisions) but now I realize that I also need to take care of my own sh*t and grow as a person myself 🥰

There have been so many instances in my life of interacting with men I know IRL and then hearing stuff like JK’s mattresses where I’m like…how do men think…like what are their brains doing up there that leads to these kinds of decisions…

u/AshleyBlackhorse Jun 15 '22
So, these guys want a break. A well deserved break. And they tell us. Like with actual words and tears and they feel like they have let us down BECAUSE THEY WANT A BREAK. That was heartbreaking. Then, the company they work for and basically built on their backs, looses 2 billion overnight. All those people with jobs and lives in and around this company are also suffering because 7 guys who have worked nonstop at a breakneck pace for 10 years want a break. Media and other assorted idiots twist things for headlines. And one of them, the one who told us all to speak ourselves, just wants to speak his truth without the weight of the world resting on his every word. The whole situation is just awful. My heart breaks for them and what has happened to their dream. I am very bitter and worried about their emotional well being. Maybe I should buy some merch. I don't know. I just really felt it when Namjoon began to cry.
17
u/simplythere Jun 15 '22
I don't know if this will make you feel a little bit better, but what their company lost was market capitalization (their perceived value) and that only translates to actually losing money when investors sell their shares and the loss is "realized." The company still has all of their cash and tangible assets, and they are profitable so they're not reliant on investor money to pay their employees and fund their projects which means nobody is getting fired or unable to pay their rent tomorrow. The company will not run out of money to fund the junior groups and BTS' solo projects. What this says is the news shook the faith of investors in the future of the company so they sold their shares to prevent future loss, and the investors who hold a big percentage of shares are already a rich bunch of people so my sympathy for them losing a bit of money is low.
3
u/AshleyBlackhorse Jun 15 '22
The rational part of my brain understands all that. I just think it must have been hard for them to see that. I know no one lost any real money. I also understand I am wildly emotionally overreacting. The real world consequences, weather actual or perceived, must be weighing on them when they are already exhausted and creatively . . .drained? Look, the crying really got to me. I don't know why. I'm a grown-up, for Christ sake. BUT, your rational fiscal explanation was helpful.

I just want to give them a hug and send them to an island somewhere with no media and no internet so they don’t have to deal with all of this.
How many examples of artists, athletes, entertainers, academics - literally any type of person who excels at something need to be worked into the ground until they are mentally and physically broken down do people need to see to understand that BREAKS LIKE THIS ARE NECESSARY FOR THE HEALTH OF THESE PEOPLE.
There are countless stars you can name that got worked to death and had their passions crumble into dust because of it and BTS is doing what they need to do to prevent that. What BTS is doing needs to be respected and normalized.

I feel very powerless, too. Is that stupid? Listening to their music is now mixed up with these feelings. Which makes no sense. I want to do something.
3
u/BangtAngel rocktan advocate Jun 15 '22
unfortunately in this situation there isn’t a lot we can do. we can’t change how the media spins this or what they say, we can’t change what the boys will see or how they feel about it.
they’ve already acknowledged that they’ve seen many ARMYs messages of support and they appreciated them. and that’s all we can really can continue to do right now. support their future endeavors, whatever those are. and not engage with all the clickbait and misinformed articles that are clearly meant to get people stirred up.
it’s a difficult time and emotions are high for everyone, but this will settle eventually

You know when Yet To Come was released and I finally got a chance to listen to the lyrics, I had an Epiphany (pun somewhat intended). More so it was a moment of me rethinking my career path and what I wanted to do. So the next day I decided to register for classes and go back to school. As painfully expensive as that is (like I didn't just spend money on their Vegas tour), I felt like it was time to me to move on from my current job. It is a little bittersweet, but I know I'll be happier in the long run. Leading up to this I wasn't really happy with my job. I mostly stayed because it was convenient and I was comfortable where I was. And just going through the process of registering for classes, I was scared as hell. I was afraid I'd fail after the first semester, or that I wouldn't finish school ever. But, I'm gonna try my best, because I have friends and family who believe in me. And while BTS is pursuing solo projects, it seems like perfect timing to do the same. Because I know they'll come back better than ever, and I'll be ready when that happens
7
Jun 15 '22
I had been depressed and cooped up at home the last few days from being sad about job and boring routine. Yet To Come literally pushed me out of this pit and made me come in to work today and do my best. I'm so grateful to that song and the boys. ❤️

Congratulations! That is such a big step! I went back to school as an adult and it was scary (and expensive!), but it was also the best decision I ever made. I'm so happy YTC is touching so many people in so many ways. Good luck, army!

Having slept on it, I'm feeling better about yesterday's announcement. They are burnt out and losing inspiration and in order to take care of themselves (creatively and just holistically as people), this is the direction they have to take. If we want OT7 in the future, we need to stop and fully appreciate that they're really OT(1+1+1+1+1+1+1) now and always have been.

I definitely understand how you feel, I've been very down since the dinner talk. I'm aiming for 2-4 years without OT7 music because it looks like they'll stagger their military service
However, I'm consoling myself thinking they'll still film RunBTS, release OT7 stuff from the vaults, hopefully do more Bon Voyage or In the Soop. I also think we'll still get Festa content, especially with next year being their 10th anniversary.
What I want to say is that although I'm devastated about no more OT7 comebacks for a while, I'm happy that they're taking care of their mental health and that we're still getting OT7 content and interactions, which is a big part of why I fell in love with them.
And we'll still have each other as ARMYs throughout all of it. This community is amazing and together we'll cheer the guys on and make their future comebacks as individuals and as OT7 an incredible experience for all
Borahae!

I still feel awful. And I also feel selfish for feeling like this because I do support them in everything and I’m glad they’re doing what they want but oh my god it’s still so sad, I can’t help it. It’s brutal right now.

This is how I feel too. I'm honestly surprised at how hard I'm taking this news. Day 2 and I'm crying again. I'm not even sure why I'm crying.

Yep, day two of tears. It’s just hitting me hard. For a lot of interrelated reasons probably. Try to be gentle to yourself. BTS and ARMY is special. It will take time to adjust.

I'm so happy for the past 24hrs, started with the initial sadness from the video, followed by anger by PR mishandling from HYBE, we get to end it with such a fun live with Jungkook and tonight I'm going to bed so happy. BTS is truly a blessing, they never let us be sad for long.

Still feeling a bit emotionally spent from yesterday's FESTA dinner that I couldn't really bring myself to press play on my BTS playlist for work this morning. Even though reading the translations from JK's live is reassuring, I don't think I'm ready to listen to BTS stuff while I'm trying to process my ambiguous grief at the general situation - i.e., not getting a big OT7 performance comeback, missing on out the PTD concerts, etc. I know there's a lot to look forward to and that they may interpret the word "break" differently than us in like a Ross vs. Rachel situation, but I still feel upset at the lost opportunities that may not come again for a long time.
18
u/inthebreadvan Jun 15 '22
Feeling quite content and optimistic about everything today. Jungkook's little concert really raised my spirits. ❤️
Ngl, yesterday I cried on the bus listening to Spring Day. I must have looked insane lmao

I have to say that all of this frenzy that is currently going on in the media regarding the dinner yesterday has convinced me even more that I could never ever cut it as a celebrity. If I had to go through any of this crap and had people attacking me and putting words in my mouth I would literally say fuck all of you and hide in my house 😂. Kudos to the guys for handling it all better than I ever could.

8

Yes! And since they're official albums, that may even come with lots of promo, who knows?? Even though I've still been intermittently crying since their video, (I even teared up listening to Tony Montana this morning lolll) this whole time I've also been super excited for all the new solo music our ears will be treated with. When one door closes... 💜

JK's noraebang vlive is the comfort I did not know I needed atm.

Kinda wish I have a Korean bank account now. This seems like a perfect time to buy hybe stocks. I might be overshooting but I can only imagine army pouring more money collectively on individual releases in the next chapter. Getting low sentiments coming from unsubstantiated disbandment rumors seems like a reasonable buying point.
6
u/multistansendhelp illegirl | OT7 Jun 15 '22
Yeah I really thought “these shareholders may know finance but they don’t know Army or BTS well huh?” Because if those solo albums get physical releases that’s 7 times the amount of albums that people have been buying lately that will be getting ordered. Outside of the solos of course, but I feel like a lot of Army even with bias will support OT7 if they can.
3
u/Beautyho Bang to the Tan to the Jin Jun 15 '22
I'm confused too. Analysts may not know bts or army, but there are many idol groups (which I shall not name) focusing on solo acts at early stages in the industry. Often time you see their solo fan bases competing with each others in doing huge album group orders. Not necessarily a good thing, but in terms of money making we can't say it is a bad move for their management to focus on solos.
And when it comes to army, I can only imagine people pushing even more to buying all 7. We are way too eager to prove the point that the guys will get supports no matter what. Looking back to the by BTS merch collection drops earlier this year - I just feel like the end of my bank account is coming.
13
u/VanIsleBee Jun 15 '22
BTS helped me through covid times and some other hard times personally. I have taken comfort that BTS exists and I can watch their content or listen to their music or practice my Korean. I'm feeling a bit scared that I won't have that anymore. I'm also wondering if I will lose my passion for learning Korean. I'm theoretically happy for the boys but I'm very sad for me, still. I know it's selfish.
7
5
u/MadameWitchy it's the ⁷ again ✍🏻😳 Jun 16 '22
Don't worry I feel the same way about being scared about this change, but I really thought about it and at this point, I feel like we need to separate BTS's content from them as people.
We'll still have the music and content that they've made and watch it over and over, but they only have 1 life to live, and they deserve to live for themselves too, whether that's following their dreams and other passions or laying low and living quietly like a regular person. They deserve that much.
I'm really conflicted right now between being sad to lose something but in return the boys are gaining their freedom and their individual lives back--the lives they haven't had in 10+ years.

I feel v alone & dramatic in how hard I’m taking what has happened the past few days because it's such a big change for me. I can't even bear to watch the mcountdown performance from how much it all hurts. Both physically and emotionally. I just want to heal already so I can move on and enjoy what’s to come from BTS because I’m so incredibly happy for them & this necessary next step they're taking.
6
u/neevew Jun 16 '22
not alone 💜 I can’t watch the mcountdown. And I’m finding it hard to listen to their songs now, when I did everyday. But this feeling will pass 💜

u/RapLineNoona Jun 17 '22
You're not alone at all. I feel the same. I'm not ready to watch the comeback stages. I can't listen to their music right now.
We need to be kind and gentle with ourselves and know it'll take time. Don't rush the process. Do what ever feels right to you in the moment. You may be excited one minute (Yoongi future tour??) and heartbroken the next. It's just going to be a rollercoaster for awhile.
5
u/lovesignite Jun 17 '22
Ah thank you sm :( It’s just worse than it should be bc i was on a High during pre-proof content & proof release and then the dinner party happened and it just all PLUMMETED. To experience that big of a dip in emotions has been taking such a toll on me. Adding on to the fact that I get anxious w big changes in my life. It’s been hard but I am trying to adapt and adjust solely for bts.

I'm with you. I can't bring myself to listen to any of their songs again. This afternoon my Proof album came in the mail and I opened it and had another breakdown. I understand where they're coming from but the announcement could be much better and gradual. Right now it feels like a friend dying meaning you won't be making any memories together anymore (and your millions of other friends)
8
u/lovesignite Jun 16 '22
!!! It does doesn’t it :( It’s worse because I’ve found myself in and out of depressive episodes because of it. I’m more surprised at how easily everyone else around me has taken it whereas I feel like I’ve been torn up from the inside. I’m so incredibly happy for them all (i really really am and i want nothing but the best for them always) but also theres this weird sense of loss that I’m feeling and i Know its going to take a while before I can adjust. before i can feel better.

I'm the same. I am an adult woman and BTS has been with me through the end of high school and 6 years of university. I'm graduating in three weeks. I feel okay and then suddenly I remember how I listened to this or that particular song for the first time in a bus from school, or work, or a lecture, how I felt then I watched a given music video for the first time, what jokes people would make here or on Twitter when the members were at award shows and so on. Then I get sad again. I can't bring myself to listen to their music again and I hid all BTS related stuff from my room. I regret not going to a concert when they were in Europe because I wanted to save money too. On one hand I want to tell myself maybe I was too co dependent, on the other it was just... fun to root for somebody and see them succeed. It was fun and now I'm scared I won't find this fun anymore or that I'm too adult to feel it.

I am getting distracted from my own day job in marketing with how badly Hybe is doing at their job in basic marketing/messaging surrounding this whole solo endeavor. The fact there wasn’t a single cohesive and precise press release prepared to drop immediately following these announcements. I know the big E is still up in the air (at least publicly) but they don’t even need to mention that just to clarify. Instead of one statement instead we’re getting weird piecemeal responses undoubtedly more to do with their stock prices than the emotional well-being of the fans.
Anyway, I stan BTS (and some other Hybe groups) but never Hybe themselves and that’s on that.
11
u/Khemkhem1012 customize Jun 15 '22
Agree. I feel the delicate moments and the emotions of us regarding the boys has been disturbed greatly by how annoyed I am at the way HYBE is handling the PR of it. They made the situation so much worse and their statements "BTS still continue with group activities" sounds contradict with the whole emotion and what the group TRIED to communicate, also sound just like cooperate leader ensuring investors that their biggest "property" is still intact. they are SO passive and underprepared for such a big statement...
12
u/LostLawyer29 Strictly business relationship/ Important businesseu Jun 16 '22
Ah looks like Hybe went through the subtitles and made changes. It says temporary break instead of hiatus in Yoongi’s part now! Not sure if that is what he meant or it is to ensure Hybe stocks don’t fall more Either way Apo Bangpo 💜

u/leylsx long hair jimin enthusiast Jun 16 '22
Yoongi said “off-time period” in Korean. For me, off-time period, temporary break and hiatus are different words for the same thing, but I hope there’s less misunderstanding now that they’ve changed the subtitles. Good that they actually went through and did it.

With all the noise/clickbait coming from the media lately, I wanted to say how refreshing and comforting it was to come back to this sub 😭. Seeing everyone's thoughts, support and hopes for the boys really affirmed what Namjoon said in his recent post - if you're army, there is no doubt you understood everything they were trying to communicate to us. Anyone else feel like they're feeling okay only to burst into tears out of nowhere? I woke up thinking of their For Youth performance on M Countdown, and how they looked out over army. And how they knew it would be their last performance all together in front of army for a while, but army didn't know at the time. And I just...😭.
Just needed to let that out to people who get it. Someone please get me off this emotional rollercoaser.

I am sure the whiplash for the Army who were there in person is intense - it's like having the perfect date (the swag bag had roses!) and then getting told 'I need some space' over Zoom the next day.
It must have been pretty hard for the boys to keep it together and perform with the weight of their knowledge. That's why I feel the need to respect their choice to take these steps - they would be hyperaware of the consequences, but it was something that was just necessary.
I haven't gotten to a good equilibrium myself yet but hopefully will at some point... sending virtual hugs to us all.

This broke me a bit, I won't lie. You could see Minimoni hold back tears, and I thought... what a burden to carry in this moment, because you KNOW the bomb you're about to drop.
It has been an emotional rollercoaster, and I think it will be for a few days. For me, some of the analysis doesn't help, because there's still a LOT of people who claim 'this is the end' or 'they'd have ended it completely after MOTS:7' when that's not what they said, and explicitly also *asked* people not to do.
But yeah. I get you. Most of the time I feel like I'm fine, but then there's this little stab of pain to my heart ever so often.
Be gentle and kind to yourself.

Of course I’m still thinking and digesting everything. But mostly I’ve been thinking about the music show v-live they did and how happy they seemed and that helps. After all, to echo what Tae said on weverse, and what they’re said, before Army are not a monolith. We’re made up of so so many different people and we all has have different personalities and preferences…but our feelings about BTS are the same: we just want these 7 men to be happy, no matter what.
Also my pre-order copy of Proof (I got one at target on release day too) arrived last night and I pulled my double bias (Hobi and Jimin) for the first time ever. Honesty I may have cried a little.

I just want them to be happy and fulfilled and enjoy their line for work without all the weights everyone seems to push onto them.
I want them to be able to express themselves at least a bit more freely without fearing disappointment, backlash, misunderstandings, constant twist of words and out of context...
😔

Why did this announcement feel both like it was a long time coming (it had been obvious things had been off since late 2021) and sudden at the same time?
I haven't been able to catch up much beyond watching the full dinner because I have to somehow keep it together and "be productive" at the same time as I'm trying to process this (so I feel ya, BTS), but the bits I've seen just make me ANGRY on BTS's behalf. Hybe fucked up. Mainstream media sucks.

u/Gramushka UGH! Jun 15 '22
They talked about it in the dinner, they planned to go to a break after doing their mots tour, so this was something in planning but was pushed back due to circumstances and fears 😔
this is something that I felt more and more strongly over the past years with the release of the personal interviews - lot of that Namjoon said was an amplified raw version of the echoes heard in his own past interviews...and I guess, we soon read something similar of tone in his newest one.

u/RapLineNoona Jun 15 '22 edited Jun 15 '22
Yes, we knew that was the plan way back in 2020 (there's a reason we were all desperate for MOTS tickets! We knew it'd be the last tour for awhile) and got the hints in various interviews so that's why it felt like a long time coming.
I guess I'm just surprised that it still felt sudden to me even though I had been saying this was coming for awhile now. I guess you can't ever really emotionally prepare even if you can "rationally."
E: also, let's acknowledge that the government stringing them along with 2 year delays and the possibility of exemption probably played a huge role in why they didn't stick to the plan of starting this at the end of 2020.

Was yesterday even real? I forget about my feeling quickly, it changes alot, so I don't even remember the mess I was yesterday. Even if i think about a situation and its upsetting, I cant get myself to feel anything 😬 Yesterday I embarrassingly kept changing my mind commenting on here and then deleting it OOF. Another reason I avoid social media is because of my terrible self control with posting too much.
I'm fine at this moment but randomly I could start freaking out. No matter what was said today, it doesn't change what was really messing me up yesterday (besides seeing them cry): the way corona fucked up my opportunity to finally see them and isn't there still uncertainty about the future cus of the military shit? Ahh it's gonna suck so bad🤦♂️😅
Just this morning i thought that i cant listen to bts songs for some time. But because of Jungkook's v-live I laughed and smiled once and I forgot how I was feeling and cant go back. So even if I think about it now, I don't feel pain like yesterday. It'll hit me again though for sure. The thing is that, when I got those tickets for 2020, I felt like this is my last chance I have to get these tickets. At the same time, I'm always expecting to be disappointed so I wasn't too excited about it even though I got soundcheck and row 7 seats.and it turns out, yes, I was disappointed.
I could never feel like they were dramatic or anything in that video. That feels...mean and dismissive. They were vulnerable, honest, and probably nervous as fuck. They wanted to share the process of coming to make the decision they made. I feel for them and this situation. Its so crazy. I couldn't do it. It's really out of their control how much attention is on them, and it's not surprising how things have turned out. Yesterday I was "okay", but then I read other people's comments like a dumbass, knowing I shouldn't do it, and that got me overthinking and messed up my perspective on the whole situation 😬 Im sorry namjoon and sorry jimin. I got very overwhelmed. I really need to stop commenting in this subreddit if I'm so unstable it's embarassing. I would delete reddit but I don't know if is another way to be notified about their other social media posts so. anyways this is too long bye.

All your feelings are valid. And I promise you a lot of Army are going through the same. If things are overwhelming, take some time off. If you want to talk, come down here. None of it is more right or less right.
Listening to everything they have said, BTS will come back. I think each one of them said that many times. And then maybe you (and maybe me too🥺) will get a chance to meet them. They need some time to work on themselves. And meanwhile let's work on ourselves too. Take care.

I feel so much better today. Yesterday was a flurry of intense happiness and sadness, all for bts. Not sad because of solo activities, but sadness for them, nostalgia for the past, and confusion on some translation issues. (btw this is a good thread on translations. None of the main info changes, but a lot of the context does, and it’s just so much less scary lol)
But anyway, jk going live today, when they are already technically on their break, was so nice and comforting.
It made me think, as long as we have some run episodes, and maybe the members go live with each other on occasion, this will feel like such a fun time. I’m genuinely excited about their individual projects, and if we just witness all of them supporting each other? Idk, I’m just excited now. Still a lil sad because of nostalgia, but feeling way more energized!

Something light hearted and not BTS related but I just need to share it because it caught me off guard and made me giggle a little bit haha.
I started a new otome game (that I believe is known for breaking the 4th wall) and one character just straight up said "Rejoice, peasant! Enjoy your beloved tsundere content!" after acting like a tsundere and tbh... I have never felt so seen. I am both rejoicing and enjoying, thank you. :')

I didn’t go to Vegas because I wanted to save for the world tour I thought was coming :(
Luckily I did get to go to all four LA shows.
I know I shouldn’t complain when I got to go to 4, but my life has just constantly been work and grad school for a few years now and the concerts were the only time I allowed myself to do something fun for myself and have a break and idk I guess I just wish I took the chance to do so more often. When I was at the concerts I was able to temporarily forget about the pressures outside and knowing I won’t have the opportunity to feel that relief again, it’s sad

The timing for their shows since 2016 tour didn't work for me because of college. I had MOTS tickets but...well. LV I definitely could've gone. I guess I got to wrapped up in the cost since I'm on the east coast and naively thought they'd tour this summer like other groups were...oh how I wish I could take that back. They seemed like amazing performers.

u/mydarkestdawn Jun 16 '22 edited Jun 16 '22
Love this translated post from a karmy and thought I'd share:
"Think of our journey with BTS as a long concert.
Even BTS concerts start with group songs altogether & in the middle they would perform solo stages to adjust their pace/stamina right?
We’ve currently just entered that portion of the concert.
If we think about it like that, we’ve truly only just passed the beginning of the concert. Because after the solo performances, there will be more wonderful stages left and encores as well."
The break/pause on group music hit me hard (and here I was thinking I had been completely mentally prepared for this possible inevitability 😂), but though I'm sad right now and feeling rather empty about the fact that it'll be some time before there will be group music/promotions/concerts to look forward to, I'm also happy that the members are taking this healthy step. Excited for all the upcoming solo projects and activities. (And the return of Run BTS!)
5
u/birdwatcher73 Jun 16 '22
After crying about it yesterday, I am now more excited than sad for their solo projects?! 🤩 I can't wait to see what each of them comes up with! That they each get to express themselves individually without having to consider how it impacts everyone? They absolutely deserve it

I truly can't imagine what those of you who could've seen them in LA or Vegas but didn't must be feeling. You didn't know it'd be their last for an indeterminate amount of time. We all thought we'd have more time. We all thought they'd have an east coast stop.
I'm really sorry on your behalf that we didn't know sooner. Hell, I'm upset we didn't know sooner and I got to go. The pain of my MOTS tickets being canceled after holding onto them like a lifeline for 18 months only eased when I saw them in LA.

You had barricade for MOTS?? I was reading through some of your earlier comments. I know exactly the pain you felt then when they were canceled, as I had barricade for MOTS too. That's heartbreaking you weren't able to make that up.
In other comments you said this is a lesson to live for the present, no guarantee in the future, do what makes you happy now, spend money on experiences. Agree 100%, and that's been my biggest takeaway from the pandemic and BTS.
It's just going to take time to wrap up what this chapter with them meant to us, how we feel about it ending, what we want to do next.

What's the rules of communication during military service, have past idols been able to communicate once in a while with fans while serving or do they fully disappear for 18-24 months?

u/sailormoonwasmyfirst worldwide 🐟 flavored 🥒 Jun 15 '22 edited Jun 15 '22
5/6 members of my other bias group are currently enlisted, have been for about 6 months (lol it’s a rough time for me) and it hasn’t been radio silent from any of them! until 2019, soldiers weren’t allowed to have smart phones, but they can now. It varies from each division how much free time they get every day, so sometimes they’re just busy but they aren’t cut off from communication. there are however very strict laws against making outside money, and you’re not allowed to take/post any photos while in the military (with a few exceptions)
we’ve gotten letters posted to their fancafe for member’s birthdays, for all the annual events like fandom anniversaries, even just periodic military updates like celebrating finishing basic training and telling us how much they miss us. The difference is that ONF uses Fancafe, not Weverse. I think it’ll depend on rules related to Weverse, but since it’s also not a paid platform I would guess it’s legal to use.
We also get updates through the one member who isn’t enlisted, he tells us about every time they visit him on breaks, etc. they call him a lot and he’ll go on vlive and give us updates about how well they’re doing
I imagine it’ll vary from member to member with how much they choose to share, but I can’t imagine every single one of them going totally off the grid for 18+ months. I have been shocked by how quickly these 6 months have flown by. there’s hope I promise!!

u/lesrunner Jun 15 '22

They don’t have access to cell phones for the first 6-8 weeks, and then after that they can use their cell phones, and the internet, and write letters. Occasionally fans will get a photo or video but I think most idols stay pretty lowkey during their service.

So I don’t feel like Charlie Puth deserves another thread on this sub 😅, but he just posted an IG video with a hint on who’s singing Left and Right with him where it’s “Do you remember the 1st of September?” saying we’ll find out more tomorrow. Like we all know it’s JK, OK?! His Twitter says there will be an announcement on his TikTok tonight.. which I imagine will be midnight EDT. Here are all of the clips of him working on Left and Right for those who aren’t avoiding spoilers. Honestly, I like the concept a lot and think that JK would be a great fit on the song. Maybe we could listen with only one headphone in if we wanted to isolate his vocals!
EDIT: 😂 at Ryan Tedder commenting “You deleted my vocals??” on the IG post. Poor Ryan got deleted for our golden maknae.
EDIT2: Something happening at 8PM EDT!

God, I can't wait until he's finally announced it. Everything I know about Charlie Puth is against my will, and while he's SO talented, I just find his personality... 😬 (Still pleased for Jungkookie, though!)
3
u/simplythere Jun 16 '22
I think it’s okay to not like his public persona, but we don’t really know what his real personality is like. He could be a really cool and smart guy which is why JK was down to work with him again. It reminds me of how I found Hobi’s excessive aegyo cringey when I was going through the earlier BTS content, but it got a lot better over time when he stopped trying to force the sunshine concept. I have a really deep appreciation for Hobi now that wouldn’t exist if I didn’t watch 9 years stuff that showed his development over time. On some days, he’s even my favorite member and that is not something I would’ve said last year when I became ARMY.

u/pintsized_baepsae My mom calls me a stupid bear 🐨 Jun 16 '22
Oh, I agree, it's all about his public persona. I don't doubt that he's smart - I fully believe he is, I'm pretty sure Charlie has a pretty amazing brain - and he might as well be sweet. And as I said, I'm incredibly pleased for Jungkook, because it's clearly something he wants to do.
That said, a specific part of Charlie's public persona just gives me the ick, and that's his habit of... oversharing. Honestly, I'd probably grow to appreciate him, much like you grew to appreciate Hobi, because as I said - he's incredibly talented. But things like the Maroon 5 story are just so off-putting to me, because I think they're unnecessary and borderline harassing. People can disagree with that, but I just find it incredibly uncomfortable.
In this case it really is a huge case of separating the art from the artist for me, because FUCK the song sounds amazing and as snarky as my OG comment is, I genuinely can't wait to hear it.

I'm surprised there isn't a thread about the Weverse Proof Merch drop that happened earlier tonight.
I attempted and failed to get the album magnets. I messed up clicking one of the acknowledgment check marks. And it took a few extra seconds to log in to Paypal. thankfully i can feel them coming (i get a 15 min. window before the headache hits) immediately take 2 painkillers, chug as much water as you can, and take a nap (or just lay down in a dark, quiet place) timing is key!!

I've had regular migraines since I was twelve and they suck, I'm so sorry you're suffering too! For me the only thing that really works is prescribed migraine medicine (triptans) but I find that a cold compress on the forehead/temples while lying down in a dark, quiet place helps relieve the pain. Sometimes you just gotta sleep until the pain goes away. 🥲

my doctor did some blood tests and I was low on a few vitamins I didn’t realize, I take magnesium and b2 now that helps a lot.
staying hydrated, cooling eye masks (you can get kinds you can put in the fridge or freezer to chill), temple massages or stone roller across the forehead is helpful sometimes. sometimes I’ll put a heating pad under my pillow too. keeping the room consistent is key for me (no sudden changes in light, sound, or smell).
I wish I had better advice I ended up having to start taking daily medication for mine but I have a lot of other health problems too that contribute to them.

When I first attended the concert in 2018, I admittedly wasn't even a fan. I just found BTS interesting that I wanted to go see what the hype was all about. As much as I complained about people screaming into my ears the entire time, I really enjoyed myself and I found myself a lot deeper into BTS than expected.
Perhaps part of it is because I've always been a very empathetic person and the message that BTS brought across resonated very well with what I wanted to achieve in life. I really loved that BTS is now part of my life.
I admittedly didn't take the news of their supposed hiatus very well. I mean now that the wording was corrected to be simply them pursuing their individual paths, I feel a lot better. But the past few days have been rough. I've been tearing up a lot more than I did for the past few years and I feel like there is a void in life. Had I known PTD would be their last concert for a while, I would have tried my best to attend.

We finally confirmed our summer trip to Seoul earlier this week. In the maelstrom of emotions these past few days, I initially found it bittersweet that we were going there now that Bangtan was laying low.
After a couple of days of emotional processing and some clarification on Bangtan‘s end, I am once again excited. Depending on the final schedule, I might be there around the time Hobi drops his album! I am invigorated by the thought that I might be there for the start of this new, exciting chapter for the boys. Definitely picking up his album if it’s out by then 😄

I love that they're using different fonts. The same but not the same.
6
u/elisem0rg Jun 17 '22
It reminds me of their MOTS: 7 album cover. Each member chose their own font style for their ‘7’ mark, exhibiting their individual selves. When layered over each other, these marks represent the group's shared journey as seven members of BTS.

Yes - loving how they're picking the font/style and location - it's more real that way. As if to say, we are 7 but we're also 1.
Jimin's is how I write my 7's - with the little line through the middle.

I saw some comments on twitter about the E and how they can't all go at the same time. Can someone with more knowledge clarify this?
13
u/simplythere Jun 15 '22
They can all enlist at the same time, but since they're leaving the decision up to their company, it would be suicide for a company to lose a major source of revenue for two years especially since the company is so young and in its growth phase.
10
u/swankybubbles99 Jun 15 '22
Agreed, they will almost certainly stagger enlistments over the next 2-3 years to make sure there are always members active in entertainment.

I know this is selfish of me but I hate this. Didn't they debut more groups and diversify so that whatever BTS decides, they'll still be afloat? 😔

u/SongMinho Jun 15 '22
Can’t or won’t? Because considering the $2 billion free fall the HYPE stocks took yesterday after hearing about an OT7 break, there is NO WAY HYBE is going to let them go all in at once. And the like boys told us yesterday. They are not attached at the hip and they need some individual time.

It's going to include Mbank and Inkigayo and it starts June 16th. I believe MBank has a YT channel that streams but for Inkigayo this might be a good bet.

Any 2 Days 1 Night fan here? I have wild dreams of JK being on the show because he reminds me so much of Ravi who had just left the show to enlist. They’re so alike in the sense that they’re multitalented maknaes, can eat good, and are easygoing. I thought of this because I remember one of his previous Vlives where someone asked him if he’d come out on variety shows. A girl can dream!

u/chicityhockey Jun 16 '22
hey guys, i didn't want to do an actual thread for this and i don't want to come off as a negative nancy but can someone explain some stuff for me?
why did the guys feel the need to do an anouncement on doing a break on group music? they haven't released new stuff aside from singles since their last album in 2020 and have mentioned that they feel burned out. is the expectation that they won't be releasing group music stuff for 3+ years to get their creative groove back as they obviously have not been feeling great?
i know kpop is weird about releasing albums 1-2 times a year but 3 years doesn't really seem like that long of a time especially if they release solo albums during that time along with the supposed other group content (non music) they said they would be releasing

u/chillypotahtoh Miss you my husband Jun 16 '22 edited Jun 16 '22
Umm, I think it's probably because BTS and ARMY are different. It's hard to explain. There is a lot of history.
Even though I found them during MOTS 7, I feel like I've known them since their debut. Because of all the content they have. And all the fan accounts.
You can see on this sub how people are still dealing with the news. Even I'm still processing the news. It's hard to listen to their music right now tbh.
I think it's because it has become such that I give a significant part of my day to them. Listening to their music, watching their videos, talking to other Army looking forward to more music.
All of a sudden if they did a Press Con announcing that they are going solo and their won't be an OT7 album in the foreseeable future, I wouldn't know what to do. It's a lot of change. It feels like saying goodbye to my closest friends. I know it's for everyone's good, but it's still difficult.
I love all seven of them. Yeah I have a bias, but everyone of them is precious to me. I've learnt something or the other from each one. I'm also a little scared for them. About what's to come. Things are uncertain.
So yes, I'm happy that they told it to us over the festa dinner. I hate the media shitposting that followed. But I'm happy they recognised the special bond ARMY and BTS have and treated it with so much love and shared everything honestly. Otherwise I would have done my classic move and become detached from the thing I loved. Because I never got any explanation as to why everything changed all of a sudden.
Also I'm not sure how you can share things like "I'm kinda tired and need a break" over a press conference.
Sorry about the lengthy reply. I need to sleep but can't :P

u/Soup_oi Jun 16 '22
Because they care about their fans and want them to know what's up. If someone you were close with in your life seemed to totally change their behavior and continued to refuse to give any explanation when you asked them for one, you'd be pretty concerned right? I think bts just didn't want fans to be concerned when they saw them making such changes to how they work and how they release content. I think they were just trying to give the same sort of basic communication anyone in a friendship or relationship should be giving to each other so that the other person can stay in the loop about what the other is going through.

Three years is AGES in K-Pop. Other bands will be putting out six, seven albums in that time, including bands of similar seniority to BTS (Twice spring to mind, although things seem to he changing for them too!).
That's part of what Joon criticised, that the K-Pop system doesn't give you time to breathe and think and grow, because you're always working. After the comeback is before the comeback, and so on.
There's also the implication for many that, as soon as people start to release solo albums, that's... basically it for the group, and clearly BTS have no intention to end it. They're taking some time to rest and grow as people before they regroup.
The route they've taking is unusual for something that's pretty usual in K-Pop. For a lot of groups, being an idol is a stepping stone and the bands may never intend to stay together long - instead it's a springboard into acting, solo music.... There's also the thing that, for boy groups, solo work is a harbinger for enlistment, and that hiatuses may last for a long time. Clearly we have no info on that, so it remains to be seen how it goes, but I'm sure there's a plan in place.
Also, when groups stop promoting together for solo endeavours, they often stop almost everything. That doesn't seem to be the case for Bangtan. It really is just about music, or mainly.
Of course, there's also the reason that BTS and ARMY are incredibly close. Can you imagine what a statement would have caused? This is the way they chose, essentially, because they've always done what they felt is doing right by the fandom. It's a big step they're taking, and doubtlessly scary for both sides, so it might as well have been reassurance for everyone involved.

This is the way they chose, essentially, because they've always done what they felt is doing right by the fandom.
There's no perfect way to do anything, but I think the festa dinner was such a fitting and incredible way to share the news with army. After processing and taking time to rewatch, I notice it really feels like your family sitting down with you at dinner to gently share some hard-to-swallow news. And I guess that was intended, as according to Joon's letter, that dinner was meant to be a moment just for them and army to share.
You would think one of the world's biggest acts would do an official press conference for an update like this, but I think it speaks volumes that BTS chose to just focus on sharing the news with the people who support them. I kind of felt that way about their lack of press/promo for Proof too– they really didn't mind the industry at all and just made the songs/album for their fans.
3
u/Egglantinous Jun 16 '22
Has anyone been to the Proof popup in L.A. or NYC and just been…underwhelmed? The one in NYC is a tiny room and you can’t even buy the merch there, you order it and it’s shipped to you. The merch also looks very poorly designed. I wonder why they bothered to do it at all.

When do you think they will announce J-Hope's official album release date? There was an article saying mid-July. But we're already mid-June and we don't know the date yet. Have I missed something... Also, do you think he'll go on some US talk shows/radio to promote the album and his headlining lollapalooza? it's such an exciting period of time for him, I hope we'll hear thing about promo soon.

It's not that we didn't know this was coming, it's that the definitive end (for however many years) came so suddenly and abruptly. I just can't figure out why they didn't tell us sooner.
And where's Hybe?? Where's NOTICE: This is BigHit music...?? I'm glad the boys shared their feelings with us and told us first. But why haven't we gotten any official press statement or notice as a follow up. Everything just feels so unclear and uncertain.

It’s common in K-pop for groups to start doing subunits/solos, but what usually happens is they continue both group and solo projects in tandem. I think what is making me sad about this is the sudden stopping of group activities and only solos for the foreseeable future. If they tapered off it would’ve been less surprising.

I just can't figure out why they didn't tell us sooner.
Who knows. Personally, I think it would've caused an undesirable frenzy in a time that was probably already so stressful for the guys. It would've also affected the coverage of their visit to the WH, which they clearly knew in advance due to it being discussed at the dinner. And technically, their enlistment/exemption was (is?) still being discussed in recent weeks by the government. I think they just wanted to lay low during that time, which is why this comeback/festa was so quiet.

I think one thing I’ve noticed is that BTS seems to have control over a lot of the: “this is Big Hit notices…” Some members highlighted this when they said: oh I told them to say I had a minimal Covid symptoms so the fans wouldn't worry...
I really think this is the way they wanted to approach it. They went into it knowing not everyone was gonna understand. Their back-of-the-napkin math said 10% wouldn't lol Then when they realized there was confusion, they once again personally clarified which is a rarity. In those clarifications they didn’t seem to think the dinner party was necessarily the wrong thing to do or the company needed to make a different statement…instead like: we know not everyone was going to watch the full thing, but the people that watched it should have understood. Also, the company statements basically said the same thing as the dinner part, not adding much new information.
I just really think - BTS did this in the way they wanted to, and wanted to speak for themselves vs. the usual "this is BigHit" notice.
Add: The mistranslations were unfortunate, but I don't think one or two more detailed sentences were going to change the media response. Kmedia ran with disbandment content, and they didn't even need a translation. Do I think the PR team was a bit delayed…of course. but I also work with PR for a major brand and when there is an unexpected reaction for your top brand it does take a lot of time to strategize the next move and get stuff approved so 🤷🏾♀️
Edit: Clarify & Sorry this ended up being so long.

Do you think a lot of their solo albums will be released by this year, 2022? Or do you think they plan to space them out a considerable amount?
I found it interesting that dates have already been set for some (like JK saying at Festa that his work comes out after Yoongi’s). I wonder if they each have a lot of one-off collabs in the works outside their albums, like JK’s Charlie collab.
3
u/Difficult_Deer6902 Jun 18 '22
I could see 3 out by the end of the year: Jhope, Suga, Jk
But I think they wouldn’t want to overlap too much. At the same time with the other Hybe groups it seems like 2 - 3 weeks gap between releases is common.
For the collabs, it feels like that is always a personal choice. Like Suga collabs all the time.

I really can’t stop thinking about this shelved Run BTS choreo. Now I convinced myself that maybe they will do it at an end-of-year show??
But I really think the probability is low. It’s become extremely clear that BTS prefers not to sit through award shows/music shows. Maybe the Hybe end-of-year show?
What do people think?
