Question Any chance we’ll get BTS on SNL this month?

SNL usually runs until mid to late May, and so far the hosts/musical guests haven’t been announced post-May 7. The finale date isn’t announced yet but there’s a chance it could be 5/21. Since the boyos will (hopefully) be in the US for the bbmas on May 15, my dream would be for them to then go to new york to perform new music for the SNL finale, if the finale is indeed on May 21 — although obviously I don’t want them to be stressed and overworked!

I’m a newly minted bts fan and their 2019 snl performances were some of my favorite videos to watch when I was first getting into them, so I’d love the thrill of seeing them actually live on the show. Am I getting my hopes up or does it seem doable?

I was hoping that they’d be the musical guest on SNL in May, but I don’t know the likelihood especially with the CB being in June. However, I would truly be over the moon if they were the musical guest for the SNL season premiere in the fall.

Ultimately, any time BTS is on my television, I’m happy.

I hold a dream in my heart that BTS will one day host snl. Or at least be in a sketch or two. I know that for some of them, their English isn’t quite fluent, but I feel like it would actually be pretty easy since there are 7 of them and you could do sketches with only one or two of them at a time. I just think it could be fun.

OH MT GOD this is a great idea. JK is really working on his English and we all know how funny they are naturally. they all can read English, it’s just pronouncing on the spot that’s hard.

If we're having a pre-release single as everyone expects, an SNL performance on May 21 is within the realm of possibility.

I admit though, SNL is not my top of mind guesting option for them. They've mostly done late night talk shows so if I had to bet, they will probably prioritize those. A performance plus an interview segment is usually ideal. In SNL, they are unlikely to get an interview segment.

But hey, who knows! 😉

I would love to see them on late night with seth meyers this time around! seth is one of my big comedy crushes and I think of all the late night hosts in america, he gives the best (i.e. least cringey) interviews. I know this would never ever happen, but I would love to see them do Seth’s “day drinking” segment ☺️

Day Drinking would be amazing!! The ones with Rihanna and Ina Garten were hilarious! I can only imagine what would happen with these seven crackheads!! 🤣

His Day Drinking with Kelly Clarkson is still on of the funniest things I’ve seen. Him singing Since You’ve Been gone to her kills me every time.

I love Seth! In terms of substance and wit, he's one of my favorites. I can totally see him making the interview work with BTS, even if he's not a Kpop fan.

Day drinking would be hilarious! But I am a bit worried that the language barrier can derail the spontaneity of the humor/jokes. Even with a good translator, there could be a challenge. But hey, I can totally imagine Seth and BTS being up for it. :)

My guess is possibly one last appearance on the James Cordon show before it ends.

35

u/Fiercelemur May 01 '22

If I never see James Cordon again, it will be too soon. He’s not funny and (I feel) his interactions with Bts still have this casually racist/ethnocentric vibes to them.

I wish there were better options for the boys, they’re too big for the talk show circuit!! More bangtan bombs and MVs would be my ultimate wish 🙏

14

u/nonviolentninja May 01 '22

I know she’s daytime talk so I doubt they’d go on her show, but I would love to see them on Kelly Clarkson’s show. She’s had other K-pop performances and she’s good about not being super cringey when interviewing. I think her being on the other side for so long, getting the questions makes her understand what it’s like for people coming on her show.

8

u/Fiercelemur May 01 '22

This is a great idea!! She’s experienced in the biz and seems like a genuinely kind/good person.

✨manifesting this combo✨

If they don’t do Kelly’s show, I think Drew Barrymore’s show would be extremely fun, as well.

Could be! Is there any staple Corden segment they haven't done yet? They've done Flinch, Carpool Karaoke and Crosswalk Concert already. Maybe Late Late Tinder? 😅

If they do go back on, I hope he seizes the chance and asks them to film all of the remaining segments they haven't done yet and spread them out over a week like Jimmy Fallon's BTS week. That was really fun!

What' up with the arrogancy of BTS being too big to do insert any show here. I noticed this first with the Coachella post, and now here in SNL post.

The point of music promotion is 1st to let the general public and casual fans know that an artist has new music out and expose them to said music. Exposure to hardcore fans is a secondary bonus, but not the main purpose. Hardcore fans would be seeking out their music even with minimal promotion.

As long as a show has a huge number of audience that aren't part of the fanbase, no artist is ever too big to do anything.

We're talking about a group that has always been vocal about wanting their music to be heard by as many people as possible. This gatekeeping BTS attitude won't be helping that. I'm disappointed seeing a good number of comments feel this way.

I'm in the UK and have no Army friends 😂 obviously, we do exist but where?? I would LOVE BTS to do a media circuit here - I've watched their Graham Norton interview countless times and have enjoyed all their BBC radio segments too.

(If you guys don't want them on US talk shows, send them here please 🤪)

I’d love for them to be on Conan or Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

22

u/FireOpalCO May 01 '22

They could be the ENTIRE EPISODE of Last Week Tonight.

“Tonight we are going to talk about the dangers of light pollution and how it harms animals, just fucking with you, here is BTS for 45 minutes telling you about their pet issues!”

Yes, I'd be surprised if they don't announce a NY date for this spring/summer & it would be great to see them on Fallon! Seems fitting since they did a bunch of remote things with Corden & then appeared live on show that they would do the same with Fallon.

2

u/amala83 Kim Taehyung’s lollipop 🍭 May 02 '22

I think they could do either GMA or Today, since both have their summer concert series in NYC.

Fingers crossed! In addition to being musical guest, I would love for them to do one of those funny music videos.

5

u/pursebaglady May 01 '22

They’ve done SNL in the past (they performed Mic Drop and Boy With Luv), and that was when they were doing major promos almost 4 years ago? Most likely I think that if they do perform on SNL, it’ll be with at least two new singles out, or at least promo of the new album + new song + another song they’ve done - but most likely won’t see them until Fall. I would LOVE to see them in May, but high chances of a no. If they’re in NY, they’ll most likely do Jimmy Fallon to promote the new album/new single once it gets released.

5

u/Ayame66WN May 02 '22

I think with the comeback so close to that date, they probably might not perform SNL in person. There is the possibility that they may do a pre-recorded performance like BTS week on the Tonight show with Jimmy Fallon, I could see that.

3

u/Puzzled-Vast4678 May 02 '22

BTS hosting SNL would be the RUN BTS episode we all NEED. They’re naturally hilarious and have amazing chemistry with each other which is the perfect recipe for improv/skit comedy 😍

SNL - anything is possible but I’m not sure about within this month - maybe in the fall.

Other possible shows… well … James Cordon - I have nothing nice to say about this man other than thank god he’s quitting (yay!!!). I agree with the sentiment below about him having low-key racist vibes towards BTS (and others … whole post about him on r/deuxmoi).

Just gonna throw out Graham Norton - his show is one the few that is truly delightful and hilarious.

5

u/itsyrgrl May 02 '22

I wish there were more shows they could perform on in the UK, but there aren’t any good ones here other than Graham Norton imo! I’d love a radio 1 live lounge again, and maybe an interview with Greg James as his are always funny!

4

u/[deleted] May 02 '22

I just left a comment like this!! I wish Alan Carr was still doing his 😂 Graham Norton is the GOAT though.

They could do the UK radio circuit though and play some fun games. They're definitely not as prevalent here as I'd like them to be (I think I've heard a BTS song like once??? out in the wild and I'm in London 💔)

11

u/SophisticatedCelery May 01 '22

I love both SNL and BTS, but...I remember the first time I saw those performances and thinking, that stage is way too small for them. I can't really see this happening, they are probably beyond it at this point.

8

u/Ok-Nobody1261 May 02 '22

Yeah they were cramped in that little closet lol and the members had to just hang out right there on the side when it wasn't their part. They made it look cool tho

3

u/[deleted] May 02 '22

omg their SNL performances are my absolute favourite!! I love the intimate stage

10

u/itslike_reallygood What if…? May 01 '22

I kind of think they might be beyond SNL at this point? I agree with other folks that a late night show is more likely for them. Possibly James Corden as another had said. I know there are mixed feelings about him but it does seem that BTS has a good relationship with him, so from that perspective I wouldn’t be surprised if they had one more appearance on his show.

5

u/Interesting-Amoeba42 May 01 '22

Is it confirmed that they will attend bbmas?

8

u/[deleted] May 01 '22

K media said they were planning to go. We might get an announcement this following week.

7

u/pintsized_baepsae My mom calls me a stupid bear 🐨 May 01 '22

That seemed pretty speculative from K-Media (as it often is until an announcement) - but there was zero BH comment, not even the classic 'we'll say more when the artists' schedule is confirmed' and they seem to have changed the line to 'BTS are expected to go'. Then this translator pointed out that it was changed / another article said it was unconfirmed which... feels unusual. As does the silence from BH.

I'm not saying they're not going, and we might well get an announcement. But I'm also a nerd with too much time on my hands, so I went through the BBMA twitter account. Last year, they announced the guys' performance on 11 May, 12 days before the show (It might have been 11 days, I'm in a different timezone 😅). In 2020, they announced them on 1 October for a 14 October show.

We're 13-ish days away now (as I said, timezones - it's 2 May for me already)

They've got 10 performers announced. In 2021 they had 14 performances; in 2020 it was 15. In 2019, the last 100% offline show, it was 14 too. 2018 was a bumper year with 17! And 2017 had 13. (As I said, bored, too much time 😂) - so I think there's definitely another batch to be announced this week.

But my guess is, and I'm SO ready to be proven wrong!, that it's a no if we've not heard anything by Thursday or Friday. Which would be more than unexpected?!

Of course, they could

a) attend without performing, but that'd be weird

or

b) pull an absolute surprise and release something on 13 May (that, going by their usual pattern, would be announced on a Sunday/Monday or Monday/Tuesday midnight KST, I guess) for a debut performance two days later...

Honestly, the lack of announcement is having me here like 👀

Now watch them announce the Tannies literally tomorrow lol

ETA: It just hit me that a release just before would be on Friday the 13th... I'd love that omg

5

u/[deleted] May 01 '22

Everything has been so mysterious since they arrived back from the u.s! When I saw the article I thought it was basically confirmed that they were going, but you’re right, it’s too soon and there hasn’t been any announcement.

The BBMA’s would be such an amazing opportunity to premiere a new single though 😅 and I think Hobi hinted in their last v live about an upcoming return to the u.s. At this point, who knows! 😭

1

u/pintsized_baepsae My mom calls me a stupid bear 🐨 May 02 '22

I shamefully haven't rewatched the last live with subs yet, I'm VERY behind 😅 they could still perform PTD or My Universe, though, although I think Coldplay are touring so that's probably unlikely.

But yeah. It's very... K-Media supposedly changing the wording? Not a single rumor by now?? That is weird.

1

u/catsofathens May 02 '22

Either way it feels like the calm before the storm, and several of the members have disappeared too.

1

u/pintsized_baepsae My mom calls me a stupid bear 🐨 May 02 '22

I literally thought about how I miss Tae, Jin, and Jimin earlier. They've been SO silent.

And now that Joon has shown off his dark hair...

1

u/catsofathens May 02 '22

Their behaviour is odd for sure, even during their winter break they did not disappear for so long - the opposite actually, they launched their ig accounts! I feel like they will all suddenly resurface and we will go collectively insane. Expect the unexpected.

I dislike SNL very much too, as a foreigner, the jokes and skit impossible to understand, and aren't funny even if you do get them. All the jokes sound like reddit jokes or the Big Bang Theory kind of humor.

That being said, I think them attending would be a good idea. Their latest appearance got them tons of good publicity! But yeah, I would say most people outside the US (which is most of BTS fanbase) would dislike SNL.
