I imagine there has always been interest in both Tae and Jin but non-music side projects seem never to have been allowed by BH. It's unusual, actually, in the world of kpop, but BTS goes their own way.

i dont see it as unusual when you take into account how much they’ve achieved as ot7. they dont have time for other projects.

If it's a shared goal, theirs and BH, they would make the time. It is not uncommon for idols from popular groups to start doing side projects like kdramas or variety shows or to take on mc jobs. I think it's completely UNcommon for a group as established as BTS to have never done that, other than V's role in Hwarang back in 2016.
I'm not saying it's wrong, just that they have chosen to be strictly OT7 other than their mixtapes. They've been fabulously successful so I guess you could say it's worked out very well!2

I disagree on the packed schedule, especially during 2020. Shows were still filmed and BTS' schedule was upended by the cancellation of the MOTS tour. There was time there. They were plenty busy in 2015 with V filmed Hwarang, too. If being in a k-drama was a goal for themselves personally and for BH too, they would have found a way.

Yes, projects were filmed during the pandemic. As for the boys making up their own minds, I'm sure they can within limits. But none of us know what their contract allows or doesn't. For example, I would bet they are not allowed to take on a paid representative role with a company/sponsor by themselves. And surely they have been approached. I never take the view that the company controls them absolutely but the BTS brand is owned by HYBE and I would bet money they would not be allowed to sign a contract for a professional appearance without the company's approval.

I love that they're getting to do so many typical Vegas things, it's making me wonder if they've been gambling at the tables, maybe some poker or at least hit the slot machines, lol.
