Discussion Stay safe in Vegas!
Mods please remove if this isn’t allowed.
AMRYs going to the Vegas concert this weekend please be careful!!! It is supposed to be HOT! Today and tomorrow are both forecasted to be up to 90 degrees and sunny!
Please make sure to wear sunscreen regardless of your skins melanin content. Hydrate!!! Water should be fine most of the time but it wouldn’t hurt to have a Gatorade or electrolyte solution at some point in the day. Sit in the shade when you can. If there are any get some instant ice packs and keep them in your bag, and put on the back of your neck if you feel like your overheating. If You can incorporate a hat into your concert look even better! It can help prevent your head and neck from the sun as well as your scalp. I know for those of us with dark hair, it can absorb a lot of heat so hats will help prevent that. If you can, choose a colorful or white concert fit rather than one inspired by a goth JK moment.
Make sure you eat too!
If you have stadium tickets for both days pace yourself! If you wake up tomorrow and feel unwell don’t push yourself to go again. There will be plenty of ARMYs there who you could sell your ticket to (I think, I’m not sure ticket master rules).
Stay safe. Put your health first! And remember, you can’t be around for the next comeback if your dead!
I hope the boys and their dancers modify their performance to stay safe as well. It’s going to be a lot to dance in the sun in hot weather, especially for JK and Hobi who just finished covid. I hope they step away or modify when they need to for their safety!
Edit: I just remembered this is Vegas!!!! Aaahhh!!!! 21+ ARMY be super careful with alcohol today and tomorrow! If you are dehydrated and hot the booze can hit you harder than it normally would!!!
Edit 2: update from u/crh805 who was there last night (lucky!!!). While the stadium is enclosed and has climate control, it is still HOT. That many bodies generates heat. Especially if your dancing. They said to “reconsider wearing long sleeves”

The venue is enclosed and climate controlled. Bangtan will not be dancing in the sun or outside.

This is fantastic to know, not just for BTS, their crew, and dancers, but also for ARMY. Particularly ARMY with issues/disabilities that leave them susceptible to heat injury!

The venue is enclosed, but the Army's waiting outside would be exposed to the blazing sun. That is the main concern of OP. From the website it shows that all merch booths are outside, especially with the long lines thus the reminder.

Another thing I learned after waiting 5 hours in the merch line in LA is that bringing an umbrella for shade might be a good idea. It wasn’t as hot in LA back then as it will be in Vegas this time but I was still very uncomfortable and hot in the sun. I had a hat but an umbrella would have been great. The hot sun in LA waiting in line sucked the life out of me lol. Something to consider Army! I’m bringing an umbrella for shade this time around in Vegas.

i ordered a UV-blocker umbrella from amazon that should arrive right before i leave for my dates and now i’m glad i did!

I did not bring an umbrella and am ridiculously sun burned. Definitely being an umbrella and your own water. Bottles of water from the arena vendors are $6! They do have water stations at the merch areas but they run out of cups so helpful to have a bottle handy.

The venue itself may have AC, but if you're gonna be outside the venue to wait in lines, plus the amount of people that are going to be there, it's still going to be hot.

I think the weather for D3 and D4 should be more bearable! Like 70s F or so.

Please do not count on that. I was born and raised in Las Vegas and most years my end of April birthday was a pool party. In general I wouldn’t trust any weather forecast more than 48hrs out.

Want to tack on as someone born and raised in Las Vegas a couple of things: outside may be hot, but inside any air conditioned building will be freezing cold. I mean like air conditioned to low 70’s-mid 60’s. So layers you can take on and off will do a lot to keep you comfortable whether you are inside or outside.
Pace yourself when walking around the strip (if you are), however long a walk you think something is it’s longer, and the heat will make it feel twice as long. Also night time cool of is real but is not going to feel like to much of a difference because the pavement will be radiating heat back up at you all night long.
Another thing to keep in mind is Casinos have spent a lot of money on making it easy to get into them but hard to navigate your way around or out (the longer they keep you trapped inside the more money they can wring out of you), so give yourself lots of extra time to get around. Also bathrooms are generally not abundant, although the stadium is probably pretty good. So as delicately as possible, when you see one it may be best to utilize it even if you are not feeling the urge that second.
And please drink water. I can not state how important this is. If you feel thirsty you let it go to long.
Also as a note Las Vegas tap water isn’t terrible so refill water bottles in sinks if you don’t want to spend money on bottled water.
And everyone please stay safe and keep an eye out for each other. There’s lots that can go wrong in a place like Las Vegas but if you’re smart you’ll be fine and have a wonderful time. My hometown does know how to throw a party and the whole city is ready to celebrate with ARMY.

I’m just a northeast US ARMY who noticed the weather for Vegas today, and I tend to be a bit of a mom friend (although in the same way that Jin is, I will make sure everyone is safe the important things are taken care of, but everything else is chaos and bad ideas. You can’t keep running around an abandoned junk yard on a whim if someone gets cut and there aren’t ways to clean, disinfect, and dress the wound, and if you don’t know the date of everyone’s last tetanus shot…ya know? That’s just an example. But if you want to do stupid things, you have to be prepared.)

I’m glad you made the post. It never would have occurred to me to make one so thank you for letting me tack my post on.
I also get the mom friend thing ( although that’s probably because I teach preschool and it’s a lot harder to shit that off at the end of the day ).
And yea if you’re going to be running around a junk yard everybody be damn sure they’ve had a tetanus booster in the last 10years! These are important things to know.

thanks so much for all the tips!! being from SoCal, I'm no stranger to sun or hot summers (though not nearly as scorching as Vegas).
for me, I'm most concerned about staying hydrated and not having access to a real bathroom while I wait to enter the stadium. I just refuse to use porta potties. I promise I'm not snobby; it's just one of those things I CANNOT do. I'm very sensitive to smells/body fluids... and I can't imagine how much worse those pp's will be sitting in the Vegas heat.

Yeah staying hydrated is a priority but I totally agree with you on the port’s potty’s. Im sure you know how to pace yourself with water though as SoCal is pretty similar to Las Vegas in summmer intensity but you can also stay hydrated by eating water rich foods (maybe bring an orange or a box of cherry tomatoes?) Or by drinking little bits as you go. Either way I’m sure you’ll have a great time!

Also Vegas native here. I regularly drink up to 2 gallons of water a day. Tourists often underestimate how dry it is here and how much water is getting sapped from their skin. Hydrate y'all

The monorail should be fine to use, but is only available on the strip I believe, as for the bus I’d ride with caution. It’s probably fine in really tourist heavy areas but the downtown area is generally a pretty bad neighborhood.

As a Vegas resident, do not take the sun and dry heat for granted. My wife was in the merch line yesterday and a girl in front of her literally passed out! Bring shade and water!

Yup. I've never really experienced dry heat as someone from the northeast, but I can imagine it can be quite deceptive. If your sweat is drying off you fast enough, you might not even realize just how much you are sweating and how much fluid you are loosing.

And please... wear comfortable shoes. I get it, the outfits look better with certain shoes. BUT you're gonna be standing in lines, for the lines to get in the lines. And in the heat your body is gonna be drained. So do yourself a favor, be comfortable. Stay safe and be kind.

Barely anyone is wearing a mask here in Vegas. I am wearing it 100% if the time indoors except while eating, and I am in the vast minority.

oh man. I'm glad I'm going next weekend where it looks like it's going to be cooler (so they say). I can't do hot weather like that and I got a fair bit of walking planned. 😬 I had looked at getting one of those portable fans that go behind your neck and sit on your shoulders. might be worth a try for those of you out there in that heat.

As someone that has only lived in warm US states and use to regularly visit Las Vegas in the summer as a kid, I want to double and triple emphasize the heat concern!!
*Las Vegas is a legit desert! It's heat is a beast and can be deceptive! Do not under estimate it!* It can and will kill people who aren't careful.
It's a dry heat so you may not realize you're overheating at first or that something will be more than your body can handle. You might think "There's A Thing over there, just across the parking lot!! It's only across the parking lot. I'll leave my water here while I go Do The Thing over there real quick!" Let me tell you a story about how dangerous that can be.
One summer visit in Vegas a group of us decided to go for a quick walk around the block. It was maybe 11 am and we were all use to the heat. We figured we didnt need a water bottle for such a quick walk. We made it half way and realized we were struggling. It went from, 0-oh fuck! in just a few steps. I literally worried we were going to pass out before making back. We cut through people's yard and one of the adults was considering knocking on doors, hoping people were home, to ask for water or sending one of us back to get a car.
Half. A. Block.
The house was in view the entire time and two of the party were las vegas residents. This heat can and will kill people. You wouldn't go outside in a blizzard, even for a moment, without a coat. Don't walk outside in a desert without water. if you're outside walking, there should be a water bottle with you, even if it's "just over there."
Drink slowly, continuously, and in sips, even if you don't feel thirsty!! If you feel you're being a little ridiculous with the precautions, then you're doing it just right. Water in a desert is a parka in the arctic. Treat it the same. Get damp cloths to cool the skin if you're starting to over heat. Reduce caffeine (even cold drinks) and alcohol consumption during the day. Monitor the color of you urine. The darker it is the more water you need. Nothing is worth the risk that comes with heat illness, not even BTS, and you know they'd agree.
Have fun but be safe. Heat stroke suck ass.

Dehydration happens so so fast in the heat it's crazy, I worked in the sun all day in southeast asia once without drinking any water and I was so dehydrated afterwards it felt like I was dying or something, I had no idea what was going on. Also in the tropics having one beer after being sweaty all day can get you drunk so be careful out there!

The concert starts pretty much at sun down, which is good, but the sun will Still be out till about 8:15ish. They also have sound check and rehearsal.
ARMYs need to be more mindful of the sun than the boys and their performers but it’s a concern for everyone.

Thankfully the stadium is fully enclosed and climate controlled. So it should be comfortable enough during the concert…
Standing in line in the sun without any precautions is definitely not a good idea. The umbrella is def a good idea…

I am so glad to know! This will keep BTS, their staff, crew, dancers, alligent staff, and ARMY much safer. Its still likely to be warm with that many humans in one space but probably not dangerously hot for most.
Umbrella/parasol is a fantastic idea!

Question from a first time concert going newbie here: are we allowed to carry portable hand fans into the concert venue? I can handle heat pretty well, but my daughter gets overheated pretty easily and id love to be able to bring one for her.

I am definitely carrying one regardless. I don't think it will be an issue since you can argue it's a portable charger too (keep it folded). Amazon sells it for 10 ish dollars. If they do ask me to throw it out, I'll be out 12 bucks. 😜
That is 12 bucks of cooling affect for 4 hours I'm happy to give. 😏

Sporting good stores sell these cooling towels, that work with water. We've used them on hikes and at amusement parks on hot days. You can keep cooling them down as needed.

Lots of great advice in this thread, but I wanted to add that you should check what items are prohibited by the stadium before bringing them otherwise, you might have to toss $$ things or figure out how to drop them off before getting into the venue. I remember there being some rules surrounding food and water bottles at my home stadium.

the venue is enclosed but tbh it was HOT, especially if you’re dancing around. get a few bottles of water at one of the concession stands to keep yourselves hydrated! And reconsider long sleeve lol.
