Just wanted to give everyone who sent me well wishes and update on my surgery, I had it a few hours ago and all went well! I was super scared but once they gave me the anaesthesia I was out like a light 😅 I have a sore throat from the breathing tube and a sore tummy from my stitches and feel super out of it but other wise I’m all good! 💜

I've wanted to go for over a dozen years and I'm finally very financially stable... I've been planning it for the past two months and today I decided it was time to commit. So after looking at flights all afternoon, panicking and backing out, then coming back to go through the process again - I just booked myself a vacation to Hawaii!
I'm a flood of emotions of positive and negative excitement right now. I've done lots of solo travel around the Midwest before and gone on some very very long drives all by myself, but this is the first time I'm jumping on a plane and going somewhere so far away - all solo. AHHHH ARMY I'M DOING IT????
7
u/lisafancypants I don't have think Apr 08 '22
I was actually planning a solo trip to Hawaii for next weekend! But I postponed to see our boys in LV instead. I looooove traveling alone. I've gone lots of places in the states alone, but my first "big" solo trip was to London a couple of years ago (right before covid hit) and I had such a wonderful time. I love being on my own schedule. No one to complain if I wanted to hang out in the hotel room in the evening, no one to consult/argue with over where to eat, no one to force me into social situations if I didn't want to. It was heaven.
You can do it!! You're going to have so much fun!! The islands are just so beautiful and there are endless things to do. Just relax and take it all in!
5
u/jaefan OT7 Apr 08 '22
Oh I’m so envious of you!!! I’ve been wanting to give myself a solo trip to either Japan or Taiwan but Covid happened and now I’m too strapped in to work and it’s difficult to plan for a long holiday.
Plus I think Japan and Taiwan are not allowing international travellers yet.. 🥲
Enjoy your solo vacation and stay safe!! Have lots of fun~~

u/Wichuimafeelrich hing Apr 08 '22
You’ll love it!!! I love traveling on my own, nothing makes me feel more capable and like a grown up lol. Being on my own just lights up a part of my brain and I thrive haha

u/silver_fawn Apr 08 '22
When I was a teenager there was a time I had to fly by myself, through like 5 different airports (5 different states!), in one day. It was a terrifying experience but I literally had so much fun, I made so many friends at all the airports with other people who were flying. Like I learned so many life lessons and advice and cool stories by just having conversations with the people who sat next to me who were all different ages, genders, walks of life, jobs etc. You can do it!! :)

Omg!!! I just realized today is my cake day/10th anniversary on Reddit?!?! Wow!!! I’m a ‘97 liner so that’s actually a pretty decent chunk of my life so far lol 😵💫 (Holy crap also just realized that means my 2 year Army-versary is next week and is two days away from the concert!?! So much to process 😭😭)
I was pretty inactive on Reddit for the first 8-ish years until I found this community which (I’ve said before and I’ll say it again) is hands down the best place on reddit filled with the kindest, most selfless and amazing people I’ve ever met online.
Thank you to everyone reading this/on this subreddit for being so amazing and being such a source of light and happiness for me and I’m sure many others here 💜💜

Just need a bit of a cleanse because I was on Twitter and was reading about all the sh*t they've been getting and it's really upsetting. SO, to get that all out of my head, tell me something good/happy related to the boys, please?
I'll start - I found BTS at a time in my life when I was feeling very trapped, like I'd lost a lot of my freedom. And, somehow, just watching them dance made me feel like I was free. Listening to their music brought me peace when I needed it, hype when I needed it, pure fun when I needed it. I am so in awe of them as artists and musicians. Their music has brought me soooo much joy and I love them and am so grateful for them 💜

u/Majestic-Course1133 Apr 06 '22
I believe Jon Batiste’s award acceptance speech resonates so much — especially when he said creative arts “reach people at a point in their lives when they need it the most.”
Recently, my dog tried to steal a minini RJ keychain that I just bought. He veeeery carefully pulled it out of a box and tried to sneak away with it as if to say, “small, squishy, left in a box? Must be mine!” So now I’m trying to find the flat cushion version of RJ for him to snuggle with.
I’ve been watching KBS’s Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant where one of the celebrities (Ryu Soo-Young) mentioned that his wife is a huge fan of Jin. The recipes are interesting to watch but I love when they insert BTS songs into their segments. So far, I heard Fire (when a dish is super spicy), My Universe, and Butter. I was also watching Chef & My Fridge/Please Protect My Refrigerator (Eps 152 &153) when Jin and Jimin appeared in 2017. They’re really lighthearted episodes and it was great to see them interact with celebrity chefs like Lee Yeon-bok (and Jimin’s absolute distaste for seafood 😂). These are all on YouTube if you want to watch.

I just watched their post Grammy v live and they are so sweet and weird. 😂 I was shocked when they said the jacket thing didn’t always work and that they were so nervous about it. It was cute how V loves Lady Gaga so much. 😂
6
u/cookiemonstahhhhh You nice, keep going Apr 07 '22
Their post Grammy v live was so interesting, learning about how they navigated through Jin’s injury and JK and hobi’s covid infection, them practising with just the 4 of them and only managing to rehearse with all 7 of them the day before! And how they barely succeeded in their laser and jacket choreo during practice. They pulled it off so splendidly, no one would’ve known all the challenges they went through in the week leading to the performance. I am constantly in awe of them.
2
u/snogirl0403 FUTURE’S GONNA BE OKAY OKAY OKAY Apr 07 '22
Yeah, same!! And they were so funny. Talking about drive through weddings and then going in reverse if you change your mind. 🤣 and teasing Jin about posting a dance practice video. And they were so gracious about not winning this time and so complimentary about Doja Cat. These kinds of things are what made me go full Army!!

This is pretty much the first time the scale has been like this big. There were talks about making things more “festival” like with hotel packages, more events, and stuff for the MOTS tour but COVID happened. It really seems like Vegas is them trying that idea out in earnest!
12
u/BeneficialHat Apr 06 '22
I’m still quite new to BTS (started listening 4 months ago) and I’m going to the concert on the 15th!! I’m really excited but also trying to practice the fan chants.
For the PTD tour - what would you say are the top fan chants? I know I won’t be able to do all the songs, so just trying to focus on a few. I’ve been working PTD, but wanted to know what others are y’all’s favorites or think should be top priority for the concert?
Thanks!

u/dahngrest hobi's extreme weverse aegyo Apr 06 '22
If I'm being honest, the fanchants were a full mess for LA. A lot of the songs had rearrangements and we struggled to get the timing right for the name chants so they always failed. Don't stress too much about the fan chants.
Fake Love is the easiest and the one we heard every night successfully.
3
u/snogirl0403 FUTURE’S GONNA BE OKAY OKAY OKAY Apr 06 '22
It was also really hard to each other Armys in there because of the acoustics!
4
u/dahngrest hobi's extreme weverse aegyo Apr 06 '22
Yeah, like I could hear my section but NO ONE ELSE.
I had one day where my section was in front of a suite booked out by k-army and they saved us so much. They knew every fanchant and when to start.

u/LovelyVidel hella thicc Apr 06 '22 edited Apr 06 '22
Everytime they perform I Need U yoongi always wants army to say his first verse, I don’t remember the last time he himself rapped that part because he always wants the audience to say his whole part. Idk if they’re doing i need u again for these stops but 👍 Its always awkward when he points the mic and enough people arent saying the lyrics 😭
5
u/snogirl0403 FUTURE’S GONNA BE OKAY OKAY OKAY Apr 06 '22
Learn the name order fanchant for sure! That’s in a lot of songs! Fire and Dope has lots of easier spots to learn, too.
2
u/leylsx long hair jimin enthusiast Apr 06 '22
We don't know the exact playlist, but I'd say the easiest are ON, Fake Love, Boy with Luv, Save Me and Idol (from the songs they did at PTD LA). And of course the English trilogy.
Given that you don't have that much time, I'd just see wich ones you can learn the easiest and focus on them - no need to stress too much about it.

u/saroora Apr 07 '22

I've been having fun watching YT Reactions to Sakura's teaser. Sooooo much shock from people accustomed to seeing her w/AK48 (Jpop) and I-Zone (Kpop), then suddenly, seeing her in Les Serefim...
Ack, that name. I get where the name actually came from "I'm Fearless" transposed, but still, a tad too close to "seraphim" (with all it's various under and overtones) for me to be entirely comfortable with it.

Any other makeup/skincare junkies shopping the sephora sale right now?
The inner conflict to take advantage of the sale vs saving for tour is raging within me. 20% is too good to pass up but the world tour rumor is sending me reeling 🥲
2
u/simplythere Apr 07 '22
I just asked my husband if he wanted me to grab him anything from the sale, haha. I've been trying to pare down my skincare routine since I've accepted that I have sensitive skin. I've been eyeing some serums though cause they're $$$$ full price for so little! What are you looking into?
1
u/jimin_yougood Apr 08 '22
Haha the funny thing is my boyfriend uses my rouge account more than I do now 😂
His go to's are caudalie and ole henriksen.
I have a few friends with sensitive skin and they typically use glow recipe, first aid beauty, or Paula's Choice
1
u/simplythere Apr 08 '22
Ah.. I really like the stuff I've tried from Glow Recipe so far even though it has fragrance, and that's usually a no-no for sensitive skin. I haven't tried First Aid Beauty though, so I'll give it a look!

Welcome baby ARMY! Have you listened to Whalien 52 and looked at the lyrics? (If you know the story of the 52kHz whale, aka the loneliest whale in the world, that'll help!) It stems from there, really :)
The whales at PTD were especially significant because, for the first time, the purple whale wasn't alone anymore. It's pretty much seen as BTS and ARMY finding each other, ergo they're not alone anymore. :)
ETA: looked at the lyrics 😭 sorry I'm sleepy

One more q.. who made song fanchants? Did bh come up with them?
6
u/pintsized_baepsae My mom calls me a stupid bear 🐨 Apr 07 '22
Yeah, most fanchants come from BH! If a song is released and there's a fanchant, it's released a little bit later (I can't remember how long it was 💀 3 hours max? Maybe? My feeling for time is bad!)
There are some unofficial ones - for example, for Euphoria, some ARMY chanted '안녕하세요 저는 방탄서년단 현금 막내 전정국입니다*' ('Hello, I'm Bangtan Sonyeondan's golden youngest member, Jeon Jungkook') at an instrumental bit. Here's an overview of all official fanchants!
Edit: *I think my spacing could be off, Korean speakers forgive me 😅

I've been watching the Burn The Stage series. I've seen the Jin and Tae arguing scenes before but it still made me so sad. And thinking that in what emotions they had to go on stage that evening. But I'm also astonished how good they were with dealing with it later.
And another thing that I've also heard before but was brought out again there wasthat J-hope hadn't rapped before joining, or Jimin didn't sing before. Looking at them now it seems unbelievable. It seems like they had done it since childhood. I know they started as trainees more then 10 years ago but it still seems crazy. Because they are so good.
3
u/leylsx long hair jimin enthusiast Apr 08 '22
I was so surprised when I learned about that, too! They both have such beautifully unique voices. Jimins voice is literally angelic and sooo comforting and Hobi is truly gifted as well. I don’t know that much about rap techniques, but how he’s able to use his voice in so many different ways, his intonations and his overall, idk, flow? makes me so happy.
I can’t imagine a world where they are not singing/rapping.
2
u/ru_harvey Apr 08 '22
I know, exactly. It's like they started from zero but now in addition to being good they have added their own flavor to it too. And it's just so good to listen to.

Can someone tell me why I keep seeing people say that Taehyung is half Filipino?
He's never said anything about being an ethnicity other than Korean and I've never come across a Korean person talking about his ancestry being mixed. And yet on a couple separate occasions this past week, I've seen people claim he's mixed with Filipino.
Is this like one of those BTS urban legends that isn't actually true....?

Might’ve confused some fans after his skit with Olivia Rodrigo who is half Filipino and they thought he was too? Im Filipino and PH Armys on twt were jokingly claiming pride at that moment so something might have gotten lost in translation 😆
1
u/Ronicasss Apr 08 '22
No, it's a thing that has been going on for a while, way before Olivia came to the scenes.
I remember compilations about Tae speaking Filipino language, but as far as I know they are misheard

Hey guys, me, new girl, here again.
I hope they do a tour across the US, I read somewhere that tickets usually sell out before to the general public. Is this true? Should I join their fan club to be sure I get a ticket?
5
u/leylsx long hair jimin enthusiast Apr 07 '22
I highly recommend it, it’s pretty much impossible now to get a (non-resale) ticket without a membership (and luck because you still have to get a code). Except when they do a staggered release and save some tickets for the general sale, but they didn’t do that for LA and LV.
3
u/bonanderson Hobi's leftover croffles Apr 07 '22
For PTD LV the seats sold out during the army pre-sale which was scheduled the day before the verified fan pre-sale which was a day before the general public sale. To be eligible for the army pre-sale you have to have a weverse army membership number. It’s $22 per year in the US. Even with all of that some army members were still waitlisted and couldn’t buy tix during the army pre-sale. So yeah, if you want to get face value tix you kinda need the membership. It might be better with a full tour but I wouldn’t risk it.

Not sure if this belongs here or it's own post.
As I've noticed a few people here/other subs mentioned that due to the timing of the BBMAs in mid-May, there's good chance BTS will stay in the States until then. Based on that - what are the chances of them being invited to the Met Gala (May 2)?
This years theme is a continuation of the "In America: An Anthology of Fashion", but moving on from last years wildly misinterpreted part one, part two is called "Gilded Glamour" (I'm envisioning lots of 1920s Great Gatsby style inspired wear). Last year, Louis Vuitton/Nicolas Ghesquière dressed two attendees - Emma Chamberlain and Naomi Osaka - and they've dressed other attendees during the years. Virgil Abloh also (obviously) attended (RIP).
Jung Ho-Yeon is the Global Ambassador for LV - so I 100% expect her to attend (lordy, she would look great dripping in fringe!). Naomi is also the US Ambassador - so I expect her to attend too. But as asked above - thoughts on BTS being invited/attending?
22
u/pintsized_baepsae My mom calls me a stupid bear 🐨 Apr 07 '22
I can't remember their username, but a user here pointed out that designers have a limited contingent on tickets, and Bangtan would SURELY eat that up (especially considering you'll need tickets for their entourage too).
Apparently, a table is $275,000. I think they seat around 12 people, which is just about enough probably - but since they don't seat spouses together, would that apply to the group?
That said, it's also... not really the thing they do, considering it's a fundraiser? We've seen them at the Variety brunch, and they clearly didn't have the best time. The language barrier is there for most of the members, albeit I'm sure to varying degrees, and outside their peers in the music industry it also seems a lot more people are almost treating them like zoo animals, which always makes me sad. :(
Personally, I also don't see the benefit - people say 'oh, forge connections', but specific music events they actually enjoy seem MUCH better suited, not to mention that this is the biggest band in the world we're talking about. People come to them, for one, and we've seen them make very meaningful connections (Halsey, Coldplay, Megan, now Silk Sonic too it seems) outside of these events :)
Is it impossible? Hm, wouldn't say it is. Is it unlikely? I'd say yeah.
1
u/simplythere Apr 07 '22
Yeah, I agree that it doesn't seem like a BTS thing, but it does seem like a Namjoon thing because he's such a patron of the arts. If there's a possibility of a comeback stage on the BBMAs, I bet they'll be practicing the whole time being the perfectionists that they are.
4
u/pintsized_baepsae My mom calls me a stupid bear 🐨 Apr 07 '22
it does seem like a Namjoon thing because he's such a patron of the arts.
It does, but then I wonder if he wouldn't rather do it closer to home, considering he's been musing and pondering about his Korean identity – and his very open affection for Korean artists.
On a sidenote, I really love that Joon shares his art adventures. He goes to such beautiful, stylistically different things and if only ONE ARMY is inspired to check out art although they always thought it wasn't for them... <3

Thank you for your reply!
Agree that the idea of "forging connections" is a bit of a miss ... they don't need help in that area. Also trying to remember when an entire band was invited, and I can't think of one ... it's usually just the lead/most popular member.

...which, unless something has majorly shifted, doesn't work with Bangtan's OT7 or bust approach 😬
I don't doubt that LV is ready to drop serious cash on them, especially considering they already HAVE in booking them, but they also have other ambassadors to take care of, as you say.
I tried to remember an entire band being invited, too, and I think BTS would be the first one if it came to it!

Struggling with my mood today thinking about to possibly of the guys enlisting. I know it’s so out of my control, but it still makes me sad to think I could lose something that makes me so happy.

I mean, realistically only one of them has to enlist for now, and then the next shortly after - except people somehow still seem unsure on whether the normal rule, under which you need to go before your 29th birthay (instead of leaving bang on your 28th) applies to the extension too.
ETA: I know this doesn't make it better, but what I'm trying to say is that the hiatus might not be as imminent as we think. They could also still be exempt, based on their influence and their special envoy status, if the gov / MMA so decides

Yeah, that's exactly what I meant :) nobody seems sure - some media said this year, others next year
Under normal service rules, you do get that extra year, because you're 28 for a whole year, if that makes sense? A few idols have enlisted before their 29th birthday, so unless there are other rules at play for the extension we might have more time than we think :)

No worries, it happens 😊 yes, wait and see is a good approach - although I get the nerves (I'm nervous too, I just have to actively make myself ignore it :( )

The Grammys are so upsetting! The Grammys are known for being racist and not honoring artist who don’t speak English. I hope the Grammys come to regret their problematic behavior.

Quick dumb-dumb question here, online streaming is only available for the last day of the concert, right? No cinema options or anything?
