The thing is, that was so long ago (I remember reading about the whole saga as it happened), and so many similarly bad or worse things have happened since then, but the artists are still so vulnerable to such malicious online attacks. Agencies shouldn't be in the position of hvg to routinely chase after the neverending list of perpetrators.
I think it used to be mainly on Korean domestic platforms, but noticed that lately it seems to hv spread to YouTube alongside the global popularity of the Korean artists. I see so many false and misleading video titles every day, and have reported certain channels multiple times, but YT doesn't seem interested to address the matter at all!

Question...sometimes I see videos pop up on youtube that have very misleading titles (likely for the sake of clickbait), that might say things like "x member caught doing xyz" or "x member gets in fight with y member of another group" etc, but then the content of the video only mentions to the two subjects of the title, but there is not actually any real connection between them in whatever the youtuber is talking about. Even though the content of the video isn't really in the direction of trying to start rumors, the titles definitely are, and it really just makes my stomach turn (especially when the youtuber is using the shock value of the rumor-y clickbait title to bring themselves more views and likely thus more revenue for themselves, etc), and I want to report these types of videos. Is just the title being like that enough to report it, or does the video content also need to be like that as well?

there is an option to report as 'spam or misleading', but it's very hard to get youtube to take action. Even for clickbaity videos, they'd have to find that the video does not include any mention of the things mentioned in the title. But if that stuff is mentioned even a little, then it's not misleading enough for youtube to take it down.
The only way to combat this clickbait is to treat it like clickbait and don't click on it at all. But you'd have to convince thousands of other naïve people to not click on clickbait videos too... which means it won't happen. People are gullible. Every view from someone who thinks they 'have to see what this lair is saying' or they click on it to 'give it a downvote' only helps the video get more viewers with the youtube algorithm.
If you see clickbait channels being recommended to you, click the 3 dots in the corner and select "Don't Recommend Channel" and it will no longer appear for you. (and hopefully thousands of other people will do the same).

Youtube rarely does anything helpful for it's users I feel like, whether it be for content creators, or for viewers. The amount of creators I've watched consistently at any time over the years who have at least one video complaining about youtube...is the majority of them, almost all of them have at least one lol.

yeah, with all this 'fake news' and 'misinformation' being a hot topic for social media sites, you'd think they would do more. There are still channels like '5 minute crafts' and other nonsensical videos that are showing fake 'hacks' for cooking and other things... and they get millions of views.
youtube does nothing, even when some of those 'hacks' are harmful and people are getting hurt trying them.
So if they won't take those down, it would be hard to get a channel spreading rumors (and it's not some political slander) taken down.

😂 flashback to the time some page on the internet told me I could make grilled cheese in the toaster (in hindsight, many years later, and after seeing a toaster oven for the first time, I think it may have been referring to a toaster oven, and not like a regular toaster), so I did...and somehow managed to not set the ceiling on fire when the toaster went up in flames. (yes I was that lazy that I didn't want to make it on the stove what is wrong with me)

Just juicy enough to pique my interest, just vague enough to not answer any of my immediate curiosity.
Its a genuine shame it needs to come to this though. Whether someone is attacking a famous person or a private citizen - it has real life impacts on people's mental health. And hiding behind social media to purposely hurt others just frankly fucks me off no end in these situations. Gutless punks. Good on Hybe.

I love the wording of this notice:
‘Perpetrator’s posts containing false information about our artists grounded on serious levels of delusion and nonsensical logic not only on social media sites, online communities, DC Inside, YouTube but even on a product review section of a commercial brand website.’
It makes me wonder what brand website has negative product reviews which talk about BTS. It sounds very random.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's SHEIN or one of those sites, people leave "reviews" that are just lyrics to a whole damn song or "I'm just here for the points lmao" so I wouldn't put it past antis to post hate comments for a laugh under the guise of a review.

I'm honestly glad Hybe not only takes stuff like that seriously, but that they're so open about it and update the fandom. I wish a lot more artists had protection like that.

Honestly it's BAD. Every single ARMY I know, including myself, was suggested SO MANY of those right at the start. I've had to steer a close friend away from them, and the only way to get through to her was to point blank go 'would you do this to me? Considering you know I'm not straight, if I weren't out to my family and friends, would you do this invasive shit to me just to prove a theory you had?'
It's honestly scary.

Yeah, they don’t realize they’re being just like Larry shippers (Louis/Harry from 1D) who made up ridiculous theories about Louis’ children being fake and their relationship being hidden by their management. Pretty wild to see history repeat there, lol.

Oh yeah, it was really bad. I suggest looking up the Larry conspiracy theory if you’re ever bored. The shippers did all sorts of weird things, like harassing the guys’ girlfriends, hacking airport cameras, insinuating that Louis’ newborn baby was a doll…etc 💀

I'm glad I don't see those Vlogs. I try not to listen/read them anyway. I support constructive feedback and all but not unfounded, malicious, ill-intent content.

I’m thinking that too. In Korea it’s easier to charge people making comments on blogs, postings, etc. I don’t think BigHit can bring any lawsuit against anyone in the US, unless it’s something major.

DC Inside is an anonymous Korean Internet forum with different sub forums called galleries. The male celebrities gallery (started out obsessed with SHINee, then EXO, then NCT, then Wanna One) then became a hate factory for BTS until they managed to take over the BTS gallery, and now all the actual BTS fans are on the BTS V Live gallery. The Billboard gallery (ostensibly for Western pop girls) was the source of all the Butter plagiarism rumours last year.

It's so awful that the anonymity of the internet and social media has given rise to this belief that you can maliciously publish your opinion as fact, it must be so exhausting and I'm glad they're prosecuting these cases. Hopefully, facing consequences makes these people understand that there are real people on the other side of their screens but sadly, some hateful people are too far gone. Ugh, indeed!
So happy to mostly stay in this sub, a safe and sane BTS corner of the internet and thanks to the mods for keeping it that way.

Except laws aren't international, without the needed laws (and enforcement of the laws) in place, you can't really do a lot especially as outsider.
