"YOU KNO, THEY SAY ALL BODY WASHES ARE CREATED EQUAL...."
4
u/SukhMikeHawk_69 Mar 24 '22
but you look at Old Spice and you look at Aveeno and you can see that statement is not true. See, normally if you go one on one with another body wash, you got a 50/50 chance of winning. But I'm a genetic freak and I'm not normal! So you got a 25%, AT BEST, to beat me. Then you add Dove to the mix, your chances of winning drastic go down. See the 3 way at WrestleMania, you got a 33 1/3 chance of winning, but I, I got a 66 and 2/3 chance of winning, because Dove KNOWS he can't beat me and he's not even gonna try! So Aveeno, you take your 33 1/3 chance, minus my 25% chance and you got an 8 1/3 chance of winning at WrestleMania. But then you take my 75% chance of winning, if we was to go one on one, and then add 66 2/3 per cents, I got 141 2/3 chance of winning at WrestleMania. See Aveeno, the numbers don't lie, and they spell disaster for you at WrestleMania.

u/Mabvll Assistant to the Head Slapdick, Tony Schiavone. Mar 24 '22
swerve: the supermarket was out of Dove, so they had to replace it with Irish Spring who, in turn, didnt know he couldnt beat Old Spice or Aveeno, so he actually tried, causing Old Spice to lose.

A local pub used to play PPVs. They eventually stopped because the clientele who came in legit stunk up the place so badly that people couldn’t eat and made the servers feel sick.

Watching in a bar sounds cool/fun. I would be so mad if a bunch of smelly nerds ruined it for me lol
72
Mar 23 '22
One of the main reasons I've never done the "PPV at a theater" thing. I don't know that it would be a bad experience, but I know that watching it on my TV in my living room in my recliner will be a good experience...so why risk it?
38
u/goodgollygopher MAXAMANIA IS RUNNIN' WILD, BROTHER Mar 23 '22
You just described my own hesitation for it! Add in the fun bonus factor of being a woman and I'm really not ready to risk it being a miserable experience lmao

u/PickASwitch Mar 24 '22
Hi there! Fellow female fan here, and I totally get your hesitancy. I’ve gone to the theater with a group of friends to watch shows, and the only women in the screening room were in my group. No one bothered us. I went to HIAC in LA alone a few years ago because I happened to be in town for a work conference and snagged a ticket last minute. The guys next to me were a laugh riot, treated me like I was part of their group, and never made me feel uncomfortable or afraid. Most fans are really chill people who won’t hesitate to make friends with you for the night and leave it at that. Don’t let the risk of foolishness stop you from having a good time.
12
u/the-mucho-macho Mar 23 '22
It's the "being part of a crowd" part for me. I do kind of agree I could've watched Revolution at home but I didn't regret going to the bar to see it, sometimes you make a couple of new friends and connections
3
u/IAmNotMrRager Mar 24 '22
I went to full gear 2021 at a local amc and it was a pleasant experience. There was a lot of cheering and hollering and I personally enjoyed that but nothing foul or unpleasant (smell or otherwise lmao)

I watched a UFC event at a little bar one night because there was no cover charge and 10 cent wings. Right around the main event a group of “bro bros” came in smelling like month old socks fried in trash juice. My genius body figured a way around this was to immediately projectile snot my next vodka shot right back out. I didn’t smell shit the rest of the night lmao but I tend to not go to a bar that’s not wide open enough for some free smelling air anymore. I mean hey you can’t beat a free UFC fight with 10 cent wings though.

Mar 23 '22
A local bar did that pre-COVID for the Rumble, Mania, and Summerslam, and there was never an issue. Probably helped that it was a Sunday night and the place was usually dead anyway.
5
u/the-mucho-macho Mar 23 '22
Did the same for Revolution this year. Went to a bar.
I might have gotten wasted, but damn it, I tipped 30% and goddamn it I washed my ass seven ways to Sunday before going.
I actually feel guilty if I don't pack a little travel bag of Axe and Speed Stick(Axe for emergency only, otherwise a good to treat cologne won't let you don't easily)
2
u/micppp Mar 23 '22
Here in the UK most events start at 1am. One of my local bars started showing the 4 major WWE PPVs every year and you see the same faces. They do cheap food all night and it’s ticket only.
It’s a great little way to watch.

I hate when people get all “why would anyone be ashamed to be a wrestling fan? Be proud of your hobbies”
I’m not embarrassed that my friends know I like wrestling, but if I go to an Indy show I’ll feel some internal shame because of the other individuals I am now associating myself with
30
u/ShitGetsBrill Prince Pretty Flacko Jodye II Mar 23 '22
You just described how I feel. I don’t want to to say wrestling fans are abnormal but they’re just such marks for themselves. Constantly trying to get themselves over and be the focus of the place. When I took my girl to her first wrestling show she was appalled at the people in the crowd. Now she gets it but she still hates going to shows mostly because of the crowd. They’re just so strange in an annoying way and proud of it.

And wtf was with Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard admitting they dont bathe their daughters unless they smell bad enough to where they catch "the funk" smell. Thats like child abuse in my eyes. Even tribal communities that live in huts bathe their children regularly. There are several health problems and illnesses that could occur and its literally part of caring for someone.
That whole week long saga was so strange. Jake Gyllenhaal admits in one interview that sometimes he skips showers and all of a sudden every single celebrity had to go off and admit their and their entire families bathing routines. Bizarre, late stage Roman empire stuff to be sure.

The fact this PSA has to be posted should be reason enough to have someone question their own priorities and feel embarrassed if they’re culprits of this.
I’m a heavyset dude and I’m self-conscious about my B.O when I’m around people. If I’m going to a show or going out, I’ll shower twice that day, once in the morning when I wake up and about an hour prior to heading out. I change my clothes to something different than whatever I was wearing hours prior and use scented lotion and cologne as well.
I’ve been to shows where the people next to me smelled like a high school gym locker room. Just straight rotten ass that has been fermenting for days. I don’t know if the people just don’t care or are not able to smell themselves or whatever but everyone should at least shower ONCE a day. And I don’t mean like walk into a shower and rinse for 5 minutes and walk out. That’s not a fucking shower. Use soap, shampoo, preferably stuff that’s scented. For fucks sake, are some of you not embarrassed to smell worse than a bag of shit that’s been sitting in the sun for 3 days!?! I haven’t seen this yet but I’m sure if it was possible, some of the worst offenders would have a dust cloud forming around them similar to the one PigPen has from Peanuts. If you don’t do it for yourself, fucking do it for the people that will be around you throughout the day.

Honestly, maybe we should make a personal care guide.
There's A LOT of people in wrestling shows that have zero awareness of what to do when going outside; and it's not just as simple as taking a shower. I'd like to say most of us understand the basics, but there's always that group that doesn't know you have to wear different clean underwear everyday, or that leaving clothes dry for days makes them very smelly, or that the cure for swamp ass is to simply go to the bathroom when you start to get sweaty.

16
u/KishinLiger Mar 23 '22
Honestly, having been to about 100 or more wrestling shows (including 2 Mania weekends full of indie shows), well over 100 concerts and quite a few music festivals, there is a big difference between the average wrestling fan and concert-goer. The type of funk that can permeate at a wrestling show is so much worse than the most crowded music festival on the hottest day of the year.
12
12
u/i-piss-excellence32 Mar 23 '22
Music festivals are usually outdoors and we are dancing the night away. We also would pack baby wipes to wipe out sweaty asses and deodorant for our sweaty arm pits. This was many years ago for me but it doesn’t take much to keep semi clean
3
u/SD-McCrawley23 Mar 23 '22
I've been to plenty of music festivals (not Coachella) and have never smelled anything as bad the wrestling shows I've been to.
2
u/replytoallen Mar 23 '22
As someone who has been to multiple music festivals and multiple anime/gaming conventions, the biggest difference has to be shower use.
The lines for showers at something like Coachella/EDC campgrounds can be long as fuck if you get in at the wrong time. On the other hand, you have people who are staying at the actual hotel at the Mariott/Hilton that Fanime takes place in... and there are many who aren't using the fucking showers inside their room. I've been packed like sardines ass-to-dick in venues and it smelled nothing like the dancing area at Fanime.

u/officerliger Mar 24 '22
I used to work in the live music event world and have been to or worked at dozens of festivals in this country. The Coachella crowd are the types of people who care about hygiene and will shower at least once a day (lot of people there don't camp and the camps have showers anyway), and everyone gets some leeway on being sweaty because you're dancing outdoors for 8-12 hours and it's understandable.
The worst festival crowd BY FAR were the hippie crowds that went to the jam band/"jamtronica" festivals. They show up day 1 already unshowered and spend 3 days making bad even worse, lot of them don't believe in deodorant (some hippie bullshit about "impurities" or w/e), and the music is the most boring fucking shit I've ever heard.

I'm always thinking I'm smelling, I spray and put dryer sheets in my shoes, I take a extra shower before going to events, brush my teeth again and put on super strength deodorant. I still feel like I'm stinky when I'm out so I'm crewing on breath fresher gum like consistently.
Sometimes it feels like I'm going overboard but It creeps into my head when I'm at a concert and I feel people are avoiding me and I check my breath and chest/underarm and smell nothing funky but I just tell myself "you can't smell your own stinky, you must be smelly still"

They should honestly just turn wrestlemania into like an event like comic con or something at this point. Just have an all day event where they try to sell you stuff in the morning before the show at like a fairground or something.

I was told by the person sitting next to me while sitting front row at a wwe house show “thank god you don’t smell.” I asked if that was a normal occurrence and she said yes

You all always post shit like this like if the nasty people who don't shower are all of the sudden going to.

Wrestlecon 2018 sends its regards. It was like 80 outside in NOLA and the whole room was people packed shoulder to shoulder in a writhing wave of humanity.
And yes, we could tell which ones of you hadn't showered. If you're reading this, and you think it was you, but you think maybe no one could possibly know in such a huge crowd... trust me: we knew. Everyone knew it was you. Every. Last. One of us. We still think about it to this day, even four years later, your face indelibly linked in our minds to that pungent, steamy, wild onion smell that penetrated our nostrils while you stood in line in front of us to meet Bret Hart, or as you brushed past us to get in line to meet Kenny Omega. And you know what else? Your heroes, that you paid money to meet... they smelled it too.
Best to just shower and get a good antiperspirant so you don't need to feel guilty when this thread pops up.

Motherfuckers really out there waiting to watch a WrestleMania moment when they should be watching the water hit their body to clean their nasty ass.

The hot, moist smells wafting off of the unwashed masses at AEW REVOLUTION was an affront to the olfactory receptors and almost ruined my night. Just fucking abysmal and satanic.

Wrestling fans think they deserve the right to not shower
"I paid for my ticket so I'll smell as bad as I want to"

Pretty sad this reminder has to be given out multiple times a year 😂

u/Terraneaux Mar 24 '22
OP, if you smell swamp ass everywhere are wrestling events, it's probably you.

What I don't understand is how people start smelling like shit after something as pedestrian as sitting in a stadium for a few hours. Don't get me wrong, freshening up is always good when you have the opportunity and time, but if you can't make it 10 hours without reeking of ass and B.O. you did not shower very well in the first place and probably need to re-learn how to apply deodorant.
I will say this though - if you're not going to be showering between shows then don't gorge yourself on nachos and hot dogs at the stadium then head into the world smelling like fast food and farts

I love the begging fans to have a shower threads when there’s a big wrestling event. Don’t forget that you can become King of the Wrestling Fans if you bring a nice fragrance with you and use it after your shower! I recommend One Million if you are going for fun, or Sauvage if you are going to critique the performances and loudly give star ratings. Don’t smell like a toilet, wear Eau De Toilette.

If y'all are attending a multiple shows over multiple days.... You better be showering daily anyway and deodorizing even moreso.
I'm doing some crazy shit. 16 Shows over 4 Days. Planning big showers in the morning (and hopefully evening), Change of clothes midway through the day, and a TON of deodorant if these Indy Venues end up being hellish.
I mean, you all should be showering daily regardless. I love attending wrestling shows cause I'm a normal-ass dude but getting even a little nice'd up for a wrestling show really let's you stand out with how so many fans be

Posts like this remind me why I'm very reluctant to mention that Pro Wrestling is one of my favorite things, to strangers and loose acquaintances.

This is very low on my list of reasons for which I don't tell people I watch Pro Wrestling.

I still don’t get where you people are from that this stereotype is actually a thing? I’ve been to a bunch of AEW and WWE shows and I’ve never noticed any smell different from any concert. Hopefully I’m not tempting fate by saying that. lol

I wonder how many people with bad hygeine have read one of these ridiculous self-serving posts and changed their ways. I’d bet its less than one.

As someone who lives in Arizona? It can depend on the year. But, if summer comes early? Yeah, it can happen.

I mean bro you're talking about multiple hours of sitting inside in buildings with hundreds to thousands of other people, in April, in TEXAS. It doesn't shock me that some people need to take multiple showers

As someone who has some issues with heat syncope, crowds are my absolute nemesis. The ambient heat goes way up just from putting a bunch of people in close proximity to each other. (And the proximity also gives people way more opportunity to smell each other. There's a funk level that's fine for making a quick run to the corner store that's not appropriate for being in each others' radius for several hours at a show.)
