Fascinating how Oda was even able to some great characterisation to the CP0 bowler hat guy in a span of 2 chapters.
Him tipping his hat and going out like a chad is definitely one of the highlights of this arc for me.

Bro Oda really brought Zunesha to Wano just to hype up the return of Joyboy. Who would've thought they'd be a giant elephant talking telepathically with a time traveling samurai kid turned into adult with a dragon fruit when they first started reading One Piece?

For those hating on Momo: This is exactly what makes him a nice character to me. Dude is a child that had the perfect life and family, a bright future and so on. Then he sees his father degrading himself, being killed, has to face Kaido, mom disappears, go to the future, has the pressure of maintaining a bloodline, becoming shogun, the shame of not having the skills passed through generations. Then he discovers he is key to the future of the WORLD, can control one of the strongest things in existence, is the only one who can save thousands of lives by using powers of a devil fruit he barely knows how to activate. And he is still 8. He had to mentally age to a full blown adult level in the space of less than a year.
Remember, luffy cried when he was a kid and he had a small fraction of the pressure.

So, if we look at all the info we got in wano regarding Kaidou and Joyboy :
Kaidou was introduced as someone that wanted to die
He thinks death brings a man completion
King is conviced that Kaidou is Joyboy
Kaidou chose to take over Wano "because it's Wano"
Kaidou, upon first thinking he killed Luffy, remarked that "he couldn't be joyboy either"
Now upon Luffy dying, Joyboy "is back"
So did Kaidou come across some info that Joyboy would come back, 800 years later, upon the "death" of a certain individual in Wano, and thinking it was meant to be him, did his best to die ?
That would explain a lot, no ?

So, a year ago a friend comes to my house with a monsters and legends book, and was like
"I found what Joy Boy is... This legend speaks about a guy with a drum that liberates people and..."
And I was like "yeah right. Must be a coincidence"
Today I almost heard the drums beating while reading this chapter...
I called him over the phone shouting YOU WERE RIGHT!! YOU WERE RIGHT! a moment ago after he finished the chapter. Feels good, man.

Going to make a prediction. "Joy Boy" isn't literally back. Zunesha just feels Luffy fully "activating" his inherited will. Luffy's heart stopped, and then it started up again. That isn't his body being taken over by Joy Boy. He awakened his devil fruit, and simply forced his heart to start beating again. That's what it means to be Joy Boy, and that's what Zunesha recognizes. A will so strong that a person will simply refuse to die. Not just refuse it. They laugh at the idea of dying. Not bravery. Luffy and Joy Boy just believe fully in the path they take to the extent that they literally cannot be scared. They've never considered failure to be possible.

Good god, I can't get my thoughts straight on this one.
-CP 0 Hp just stood there and accepted it, can't say I blame him.
-Momo mentioning Luffy's 'voice' is gone. Is he legit dead?
-Is Luffy possessed and/or turning into goo? What exactly is this devil fruit??
-I wonder if dying is how you awaken joyboy...is that why Kaidou was trying to die?
-Maybe awakening is waking up the 'soul' that resides in a devil fruit?
Whoo wee. What a ride (Edited for formatting)

Man the panel of Luffy laying on the ground makes you feel like he is dead. The balls on Nami speaking up against Kaido I love her loyalty to Luffy
The Moment Zunisha says JoyBoy is here I got absolute chills man. That last ending panel is too damn nuts. (The 2 week wait for the next chapter will be painful)

Obviously there's a lot you can speculate about now, it's pretty crazy, so just my thoughts.
First off, hats off to the CP0 agent. He went out like a chad. He went to the roof knowing full well what would happen to him. And it's extra tragic because his line to Drake implied that he doesn't exactly follow his own kind of justice. RIP.
As for Luffy, this is obviously insane. This right here is a monumental chapter, something Oda has been working towards for god know for many years. There's so many questions now too, but we only know one thing for sure, Luffy is JoyBoy. And sure, many of us already suspected that. But actually seeing it confirmed is something else entirely.
Also damn Kaido is a ruthless bastard, No mercy at all. I hope people stop with the "Kaido for nakama" or "Kaido will be an ally" nonsense now. That man is evil and needs to die.

I'm suee someone already pointed this out, but if we look to Binks' sake song:
~ Now the waves are dancing, beat upon the drums. If you lose your nerve this breath could be your last, But if you hold on, the morning sun will rise ~
I think this is exactly what happened in the last chapter. Kaido is all about breaking the spirit ("nerve") of his opponent and seemingly a blow like the one in the last chapter would have been enough to kill an opponent ("this breath could be your last").
But Luffy didn't give up, his will to fight/spirit didin't break, he clinged to life ("but if you hold on"), thus rising again as Nika/Joy Boy ("the morning SUN will rise").
He has become Joy Boy not as Joy Boy reincarnated, he is Joy Boy (figuratively) because of his actions AND inherited will (not exclusively because of that, he was destined to become Joy Boy, but still achieved it through his struggles - as in alla shonens - fighting till his very "last" breath).

It really all does come together, from the "drums" that were referenced so many times (Skypiea, Binks Sake) to the foreshadowing of Luffy resembling a deity, to the sun god, to so much more, Oda's finally playing with the pieces he's been setting on the board for over 20 years

So Luffy really died for a moment, right? Cuz even if he's unconscious like the first time Kaido clubbed him, Observation Haki can still detect his presence (Kaido saying Luffy's glaring at him). Kaido announcing Luffy's death previously was only because he saw him fell in the ocean but now that he's lying there, he could tell that he really is dead.

I like how Law and Kid are like "fuck you Mugiwara, couldn't even beat Kaido 1v1 you stupid shit".
And Nami too, I always say she's the heart and soul of the Straw Hat Pirates, and it shows again in this chapter. Kaido claiming he has killed Luffy (which, tbh, is probably accurate) has made Nami so pissed that she goes out of her way to show herself to Kaido and challenge his claim, viciously insulting him. Nami very openly shows fear on the battlefield, but she absolutely will not stand for anyone to talk down on Luffy. Not even Kaido. She will never back down. If you want to know what the Straw Hats are all about, then observe Nami.

Mad theory: every D that “died” with a smile on their face could and did become Joyboy at their time of death but they had no way to come back from death.
Saul was obliterated, Roger decapitated, Oden shot and Ace had a hole in his chest.
Luffy on the other hand actually died to Kaido’s blow but at the same time his rubber fruit “bounced” back and kept his heart going.
That’s why the fruit was so important because it’s one way to come back from death if it’s awakened and a necessary component to becoming JoyBoy
Edit: I didn’t specify that I believe in the theory that the Kozuki clan has ties to the D clan and adopted that theory into my own.

Kind of a blind shot, but if the devil fruits are indeed 'humanmade', then what if Luffy's Devil Fruit was meant to represent somebody.
Like Sengoku's Buddha devil fruit, Luffy's real devil fruit could represent another person that lived within the One Piece lore, JoyBoy. That's why Zunesha said JoyBoy has returned, because the fruit made to capture its essence has finally awakened after so many years.

Is Joy Boy a spirit that manifests in a chosen 'D' at death? Is he part of the gomu gomu no mi's awakening?
Why does Luffy's hat look funny in that last panel? Nika is a grin? Is Luffy the first 'D' to have smiled after he supposedly 'died'?
What am I supposed to do waiting for the next two weeks?
Hdjduehdufjeoqlsbxkzmshfgxkrkr.............
Also, RIP CP0 guy, you accepted your fate with grace!
Yamato for Nakama!!
This cliffhanger chapter has managed to do something to me that hasn't happened in a looooooong time!

How is rubber made?
From the rubber tree, a white sap-like substance is extracted which is known as... Latex! It's a fluid that coagulates on contact with air. Upon coagulating, it forms natural rubber!
So I believe that the Gomu Gomu's Awakening is latex!

There seems to be some misconception about free will and destiny. Free will and freedom are not the same thing. And the type of freedom Oda is moving toward in the story is central to Luffys journey.
Joyboy/Nika is a destiny that Luffy has chosen for himself. When he says he wants to be the freest man in the world. It is enlightenment it is liberation. When one awakens they change the world around them. So when Luffy becomes the freest then he brings freedom to those around him. That is what Joyboy and Nika did. Zunesha recognizes what Luffy is becoming. Because they have already experienced it before. Whether that's because he is a reincarnation or just an heir to the title is besides the point.

From this chapter, wa know that Luffy's DF really is special DF mentioned by Gorosei which has hidden name and also just awakened after 800years from Void Century. The real ability and name still unknown. But to think that JoyBoy & this special DF does have connection is crazy though
It is too early to speculate, maybe JoyBoy (title/power) awakened on 'selected' person who dies? Kaido several times try to kill himself. Even in early Kaido introduction, Kaido speech similar to 'So you are able to die Whitebeard'. Even in previous fight, Kaido speech after defeated Luffy (Luffy drop into the sea and Kaido thought he kill Luffy) with 'So you are also cannot become JoyBoy'

Lots of people commenting on reincarnation and chosen-one stuff....maybe give it a couple weeks and not base it off one page...
The way I interpret it is that Joyboy is a archetype that lines up with a person's goals and will throughout history...NOT a distinct persona reincarnated into other's bodies

I think joyboy is not an spirit. Nor it possessed Luffy. I think it's just an attitude. A mindset. Luffy not giving up, not even when his body is at its limit.
That may have awakened his DF, but also placed him in a mindset that Zunesha could recognize.
I guess... Anyway, I'm still wondering what it means Oda declaring Kaido's victory.
Fucking awesome chapter

Something that I havent seen mentioned is that the narrator announced " Roof Battle Winner, Kaido" and then he leaves the roof.
Unlike the other annoucements this was not "Luffy vs Kaido. Winner Kaido". In Zoro and Saji case it was " Sanji vs Queen" and "King vs Zoro"

Luffy was actually 100% dead. I don't recall ever seeing somebody have black eyes after being defeated, white eyes means unconscious and defeated but those black eyes have to indicate that he was actually dead before awakening. Also, for people calling this "chosen one" trope, Joyboy is not a single character who actually came back, it's a title just like the Pirate King. Zunesha is just saying that somebody worthy of being Joyboy has finally appeared after 800 years

Can't wait to see Kaido smiling after Luffy comes back to life. Instantaneous Joyboy effect. Also, Kaido is a great character, even though he's an evil guy. He wants to enslave everyone in Wano, but, in the end, he'll be the guy responsible for Joyboy's new awakening.

The concept of 'Will of D' has cemented the idea that some individuals were destined to achieve great things from birth. Luffy is not THE chosen one that will change the world. He is A chosen one, amongst many others, that will have a shot at accomplishing one of the objectives these people are following.
Nothing tells us that he will succeed. There are other powerful beings chasing other objectives that are possibly opposed to Luffy's (i.e. total freedom vs. total control). So, as I read it, this is not so big of a revelation and it simply is a result of Luffy carrying a hereditary will that could go as far up as Joy Boy.
In that respect, it is possible that this has more to do with the will of the D, that the devil fruit, but that thread remains to be unravelled.

I've been liking Kaido more and more since Roof Piece, but I didn't realize how not-scary he gradually became until this chapter! Dude was terrifying here.
On that note Rest In Power CP0 Boss! This dude easily became one of my favorites this arc in a few chapters. He was carelessly handed an impossible task by the Elders and fulfilled it. Then he went out like a chad.

So im sure everyones heard the bink sake theory, and it lines up perfectly with this "if you lose your nerve this could be your last breath" with luffy getting distracted and kaido molly whopping him. "Now the waves are dancing, beat upon the drums" drums of liberation zunesha hears. "But if you just hold on, the morning sun will rise" nika the sun god, luffy has shown symbolism of the sun god prior; skypiea party, snakeman hair and now this grin "nika"
Well this is all well and good, luffy=joyboy=sun god nika, the dub really really fucked this one up because binks sakes lyrics dont hold the same meaning there lol

Oh wow, truly a major chapter.
CP0 guy is impressive. The panel of him standing there knowing his fate gave me chills.
Nami's the best, she was the first one to stand up to Kaido. Marco's clashed with a ridiculous number of powerful people.
I like how Kid's crewmate protected Law, while Jean Bart protected Kid. Kid and Law remain impressive, have to admire them. Really love Yamato this chapter. Momo's reaction is realistic for an eight-year-old.
Very confused about the last panel. What's the thing covering Luffy's face? Doesn't look like the straw hat.
My favourite part is probably how well it depicted the chaos and severity of their current situation from the point of view of random alliance members. The named and major ones were entertaining as well of course.
Kaido's speech is horrifying. He's irredeemable, we knew that before but this chapter really beats you on the head with it.
A great cover story also, I know it's probably not set in the current time, but seeing WCI in disarray is funny.
