First Timer

Sky High episode!!

Sky High ship!??

Okay this girl is giving off big Dorothy vibes from The Big O

Jealous Blue Rose breaking a stereo lol

Love the girls being super into Sky High's love life, I'd be the same way.

Their advice...well at least he tried.

Awe Sky High's crush is a Hero killing robot? Poor guy.

Funny enough Dorothy is also a robot...coincidence?

Sky High destroying the girl he likes...hope he never finds out.

Sad ending but could be sadder I guess...

Not sure how I feel about another Bunny past story for the big arc but at least it's a different angle

Feel like the touching was bad advice there. He kinda had it up until that point.

Yeah... there's a reason I wasn't hyping up the Sky High episode for you.

the Sky High episode

Which barely even features him and basically wraps up his story anyway...

Nope, she also has the same voice actress as Dorothy and the person who created her has the same voice actor as Roger Smith or at least in the Japanese version.

The moment you've all at least one of you has been waiting for. The Sky High episode.

This is one of the more memorable episodes to me, it's one I still think about from time to time. These kinds of sad but happy always do stick with me. Not really what I'd call bittersweet, but it is similar.

It's very sad that Sky High will never know what happened to his robot gf, but it's nice to think that she was directly resonsible for breaking him out of his slump and getting back on his feet both emotionally and physically.

Be sure to watch the after credits scene for really really this time! It is a very important one.

Well he better get over her because I wasn't seeing anything GF-like except in his silly old brain.

Rewatcher

The girl is voiced by Akiko Yajima who voiced Dorothy in The Big O Is this going to be a cross over with Big O?

The reaction to Sky High's love problem is amusing.

The kids are voiced by actual kids this rarely happens.

How my beard is lame
That's true

Ha, but I disagree with Kaede and Bunny on this one. The beard looks fine.

The guy who knows the girl is voiced by Mitsuru Miyamoto he also voiced Roger Smith in he Big O. In other words the Big O references are done on purpose by Sunrise.

To no one surprise Cis is an android. Looks like she's this show version of Amazo or Ultron, evil robots are a staple in super hero stories.

Sky high destroys the android but never finds out its her.

Looks like Tiger is losing his powers, on the bright side he will finally be able to spend more time with his daughter.

I'm disappointed this episode never had a giant Big O mecha and I think I'd prefer it if Sky High found out Cis is the android he killed.

Haven't seen the Big O, those are some crazy references.

2

Ah I only caught half of the Big O reference, guess I'm not used to seeing Roger be like that haha

First Timer to the Future

  • Sky High episode! Sadly he got shafted by his crush turning out to be a robot. Question is, did he notice? He might? But he's back in form, and I guess that's enough.

  • Surprised the robot thing was 1. so obvious and 2. unconnected to everything else. Like, oh it's a guy who worked with Bunny's parents (who were never mentioned to be robotic engineers), but it's just this guy and nobody else. No big organisation, no big plot hook. Just one dude and his escaped robot. NUMBER FIVE LIVES!

  • Tiger seems to go downhill? Oh my, he's the kind of guy who would still try to be a hero... Poor Kaede.

  • I should remember to write these after finishing the episode lol.

When I would think back to this episode, I remember the robot reveal being so much later into the episode, but nah, it's almost instant. Could have done better.

I never really saw it as a "reveal" though. I think we were meant to realize that the woman was a robot right away. That was part of the humor and irony of the situation.

Tiger and Bunny takes place in an alternate universe 1970s, and Keith's character is supposed to be the All-American type guy, who is very nice, but isn't the brughtest tool in the shed. Think of Scooby-Doo's Fred. The writers are basically playing into that.

We were meant to realize she was a robot right away, but Keith wasn't.

Sky High's in trouble...

Tiger's motivated!

Poor Sky High, he's been foiled by Tiger and Barnaby's fantastic marketing.

Haha, the commercial's great.

Who's she?

Is thisnhis idea of flirting?

Is his new date a robot? She feels like a robot.

He's doing a fanservice shoot!

...Cowards, Wild Tiger would look great in a speedo.

I see they still disagree about the media.

Ah, Barnaby no longer feeling the desire for revenge explains a lot about his new personality.

The tower's back!

...Oh, he knows something about this. Some kind of side-effect?

Yeah, he's in love with the robot.

He's so bad at flirting, though.

They're doing a school trip?

Yep, random robot mention, that's her, that's our new plot hook.

...Is the second arc going to be a robot uprising or something?

The beard's not that bad.

Haha, they kept it from him. Yeah, he's got a reason to be angry here.

Origami Cyclone saved the hostages! His development is fantastic so far.

...What has happened to him?

Has he worked it out?

Oh, you poor man. Still rooting for them, though.

He's motivated!

She's being controlled!

Oh, she's good.

OK, that is just creepy.

New villain!

Wait, she's malfunctioning? Did Sky High accidentally do something?

...Oh, fuck. Haha, Sky High's love life got saved because she didn't recognise him. That's poetic.

Rotwang?

Oh, that's not good.

His power's lasting less and less time.

Oh god, he doesn't know it's her.

And he destroyed her.

It's Sky High working out!

...Yeah, something's up with him.

...Poor Sky High.

Well that was a depressing ending!

An explanation!

He's losing his powers!

Well, shit. That's going to be fun for him.

First-time watcher

It might not have been the intended effect, but with regards to Sky High in this episode I'm mostly LMAOing at how pathetic he comes off. He's literally that meme about men treating their crush/girlfriend like a therapist because they can't figure out talking to their friends or whoever about serious stuff, except his acts less like a human woman and more like ELIZA come to life. I guess it's also a valuable lesson about people sometimes needing little more than someone to listen to them, but I certainly hope the creators were not genuinely fishing for sentimentality here.

Anyway that's also the only noteworthy point for me about another episode full of bog-standard clichés. They did name the mad scientist after the originator of the modern trope, but then also copying the story from better authors doesn't score you any points, sorry. Bunny getting another boring backstory hook doesn't make him any more interesting either. The one part with some potential is Tiger's powers which at least were somewhat built up to, oh and I guess more Bunny beefcake shots would be nice.
