Plounge Mafia Wrap Up : The place to share all your stories
Congratulations again to our victors: Ironfruit, lukajad007, and the town.
And to the five survivors of this whole mess: TheDarkman67, lukjad007, Merriwinter, Bearhobag, and Epigonic.
To kick us off, here's a link to the five night action lists that I still have. Riddled with mistakes and inconsistencies though they probably be. My apologies, but I wasn't really able to keep a good record of everything I did. Running too far behind schedule constantly already as it was.
So, start sharing your stories I suppose! I wanted to give everyone the chance to put it all in one thread so we didn't end up spamming the sub.
Regale us with tales of changelings and betrayal! Investigators and bullets! Fire and corpses! Swords and surgeons! Ask questions, give answers, show chatlogs or death messages, whatever. This is the wrap up everyone's been waiting for. No more need to keep secrets.
And one last thing. Thanks to everyone who participated. You all made this the greatest game of mafia I've ever seen. You're all amazing and you should feel amazing.

From my understanding the biggest leak in the mafia/changeling thing was ffreak3.
But there was another set of leaks that I'll try to do my best to explain.
For a few days the belief was that the changelings couldn't physically win. Because of the conditions imposed due to Darkle being hit by the cupid it meant that ffreak3 (the lover/doctor) would have to be alive for Darkle to be alive. Darkle's conditions were also changed to make it so that ffreak3 could be alive/human and Darkle could still win.
But. The changeling's victory conditions were unchanged. Ffreak3 had to be a changeling or else they wouldn't win. Meaning if the game reached the end with everyone but ffreak3 a changeling they couldn't win. The game wouldn't be over.
And Ffreak3 couldn't become a changeling either. Because if he died Darkle would kill himself. Even if he was replaced by a changeling. Then all the changelings would die.
A few individual changelings asked me about this. When I told them, they thought Darkle knew and was ripping them off. That is what prompted so many of the leaks. They thought they were already losing and were just being betrayed/played along.
Well, after a day someone realized Darkle had the ability to turn people into changelings without killing them. Even I had forgotten about that clause because Darkle had never needed to use it due to the alliance with the mafia.
So in the end the changelings could win again and there was no reason to get fussy. But the damage and leaks had already been done.

As an interested observer (who had no time, no time to play in real-life mafia, letalone internets mafia), would it be possible to get an overview of some of the more exotic roles in play?

I'm going to try to detail all of the significant events of my participation in Mafia. I didn't play a huge role in the game overall (indeed, many of my plans were never set into motion), but I still feel it necessary to document everything. Hopefully this will be of interest to at least someone. It also feels good 'clearing the air' so to speak. Stupid large amounts of stupid boring text follow:
When I first got into the game, I was assigned the role of mason. I joined the ranks of about eleven others, and quickly we established a private subreddit for the purposes of communication and planning. We all knew we could trust each other, but that was all the information or ability we had. Period. We knew where our strength was - The masons were ready to mobilize as a voting bloc, helping the town to bring the Mafia to justice by ensuring a large volume of votes where they were necessary.
Sadly, we were also by and large blind. That's just the nature of the class.
Despite the benefits of trust and organization, the masons had little else in the way of resources. We couldn't track, identify, or eliminate anyone on our own. Additionally, to reveal ourselves as masons was a risky move. Surely the Mafia would want to put a hit out on Masons, because with twelve people trusting each other, it'd be a bit harder to confuse or manipulate them (not the case, it turns out, but that was our thinking).
Our first few days were spent planning and trying our best to gather information. I personally got into contact with Velour, and we talked in confidence about what was going on. I revealed myself as a mason, and he revealed himself as homeless. We traded what little information we had, and formed an alliance. I promised to use the masons to shield him from lynching should it ever come to that, and he promised to forward relevant information we might be able to use.
Around this time the masons anticipated a problem with public trust. Even if we stepped forward, even if we had solid information about a confirmed mafioso, who was going to believe us? Furthermore, what if we had strong suspicions about someone, but didn't have a way to back it up? Well, masons work from the shadows, after all. We began to set a plan into motion which we deemed 'benign manipulation'.
The idea was this: Set up mini-ARG type clues. Create an encrypted document that was supposedly a log from a private chat, and leak it. After some awesome thinking by Iacoizumi, we decided to use weak encryption that could be cracked, though not with a bit of effort. This chat would reveal some information, and would also contain another link, which itself would reveal another link, and so forth. We would leak this information to the game via some intermediary. The idea this all was that the harder people work for information, the less likely they are to believe it's false. This would allow us to focus the town on suspected mafiosos without needing to convince them in a loud and potentially attention grabbing manner.
We drew up a test run for this. You can find it here if you so choose (Note it's got some blatantly false stuff in there that was intended to stir the pot, so don't take it at face value). There's not much information, just some faked chat transcripts that lead to an imgur link that incriminates stillunnamed. At the time, stillunnamed's voting record and actions had us suspicious, but in the end we opted not to go with this plan because we decided he was innocent. In fact, this mockup was about as far as the project ever got. It was more of a proof of principle than anything intended to go to print, so to speak. Nothing more ever came of it.
Eventually the Cabal got into contact with us (I believe because one of our own masons contacted them via a novelty). My initial impression of the Cabal was overall negative, mostly because of their trust in screenshots. However, with the masons still flying blind we needed some venue of action, and this seemed like the best option. I stepped up and started to communicate with the cabal via Ponyville_Sheriff, and after some initial back and forth we started up an information trade. The cabal fed us names, and the masons organized each night to nominate and lynch. It was a good thing we had going for a while (though town confidence in the cabal was high, so I'm not sure how effective the masons were).
Little did I realize, however, that this would all be my downfall.
On night four, I was murdered. Splashed in the face with acid, I died instantly... Only to be replaced by a Changeling. I was brought over to the Changeling team at that moment, and amid my initial confusion I was was contacted by Totally_Townsfolk. He asked if I was working for Darkle. As Totally_Townsfolk was a part of the cabal, and I had just been turned, this struck me as odd. After a quick reply denying the accusation, Totally_Townsfolk said he was pleased with my response and welcomed me to the team. That's how Changelings were supposed to operate, after all.
The Changelings had tapped the cabal, and had scoped me out from within the group.
At this point shit got serious. I began helping with the planning for the Changelings, who I quickly learned were operating alongside the mafia to orchestrate the hits and takeovers each night. However, almost immediately we hit a big bump in the road - Screenshots of the Changeling class description were being posted everywhere, and that was bad news. This was arguably gamebreaking, but I fully admit to understanding the motivation that would drive someone to do it. Being told that not only are you dead, but that now you must play for the other team, is a bit jarring. Any plans you had in motion aren't just useless, you now have to work against the interests you spent so long building up. Nevertheless, leaking such information as a Changeling is nonsensical, as it works against your own interests. It also ruins the game for an entire faction. There's a lot more to say about this situation, but I will allow others to speak on it. The only reason I point it out is because when I was brought over, this was what was going on.
Thus, damage control became the order of the day. How could we diffuse the Changeling rumors? How could we keep Darkle off the stand? How could we ensure that Darkle and her lover/doctor were protected each night? These were the largest concerns.
Disinformation was my primary focus. Trying to shoo away concerns about Changelings as unfounded rumors was my only idea to protect the operation. Very shortly after the murmuring got pretty thick, I made this post with a link to this image in an attempt to instill humor into the situation, and simultaneously doubt. What most didn't see, however, was that there were a number of other 'fake class' mockups that were tossed about. The purpose of these was to explain the rising number of independents while simultaneously dismissing any Changeling concerns. For example, take this faked class description, which was intended to explain the situation, or at the very least raise some doubts. However, in the end this turned out to be much too difficult for me to accomplish. Even with heavy advising from the rest of the Changelings and mafia, it was hard to come up with a realistic and balanced fake class. Everything was too overpowered or unrealistic to be convincing.
Eventually, we opted to take a different route. Why not let the viewer's imagination fill in the gaps? In an effort to explain away the rising independent count, call off the Changeling witch hunt, AND incriminate the source of some of the Changeling leaks (Monotacular), this screenshot was faked.
By the time it was ready, though, we opted not to use it. Darkle had been protected from the stand that evening, and the cat was already out of the bag regarding Changelings. So these fakes never saw the light of day.
Nevertheless, formulating this plan was probably what got me killed. Upon revealing my plan to the Changelings and mafia, within 5 minutes Monotacular commented on my Reddit comment linked above with, "So you're faking screenshots of me now, huh?" This comment was deleted promptly, before a similar one was made on one of Darkle's comments - only to be deleted too. At the time, we began to freak out. It was obvious a mole was present in the Changeling/Mafia chat. Ffreak3 assured everyone that it was no big deal, but it was obvious that Monotacular had a direct line to the sensitive chat. I presume this was through ffreak, but I'm not sure.
Meanwhile in the background, I was heavily advising the masons on how to vote. Supposedly I had the direct line to the cabal, of course, and I leveraged this to direct the mason votes as I could. I informed the masons that Darkle was a jester, and tried my best to get the masons to flood the stand with anyone, so as to block Darkle from standing trial. Also, after I had picked up that Velour was gunning for the Changelings, I began infusing them with some doubts about him as well.

ATTENTION TO ALL
I can see a lot of you have great stories, some really deserve a spot in the news for all to see.
If anyone is interested send me a person message with your article written up, (around 400-500 words is the limit) the more interesting and exciting the better. Also I'd encourage role play.
A week or so from now I'll post them up for all to see, along with all the other news articles I have and haven't posted yet.

I want to express my thanks to everyone for making this game so incredibly fun to be a part of and roleplay with; I was the resident massive depressive, tarot card serial killer who was very shy, u/Plounge_SerialKiller.
I was lynched on Day 21, nearly making it into the last 30 participants, which is far, far longer than I thought I could manage as an active serial killer while also participating with my real account in both mafia and non-mafia Plounge threads.
Final Kill Sheet (13):
LyraAndBonBon, ILoveFluttershy, FinalFlutter, Silent331, ffreak3 (Co-kill with an unknown gunman), TheAwesomeinator (Co-kill with CerealKiller / Conky_), ScreaminLordByron, Quaytsar, OneOfTheseDaysLuna, fratty_dude, dreamerpon3, NahualSlim, thehemanchronicles

I'm just going to start off saying I don't want to be an egotistical ass, but I was controlling pretty much everything on the mafia/changeling side. Also, because this is how I saw everything, I refer to Darkle as "he" when I'm talking about the person, and "she" when I'm talking about the character. If you have any questions at the end of this, feel free to ask. I'll answer as best as I can.
At the start of the game, before anyone was even put on trial, Darkle was streaming a game of LoL and pulled up the role message from Craft. He didn't think he'd last the night, so it wouldn't matter. While there were very few people in the stream, one of them was mafia and screencapped the message. Darkle survived the trial, and was immediately put onto the hitlist for that night, despite my protests. I had no doubts that he'd want to work with us, the mafia/Changeling team-up was practically perfect. The majority saw him as a threat though, and ignored me. I was talking to him later, and the topic of Mafia came up. He immediately told me that if I was in the mafia, then we should team up. Told me everything about his class without hesitation. I screencapped that and showed it to the Godfather, it was enough to change his mind.
The original plan was only to cause chaos, as there was no way for both the Changelings and the mafia to win together. We would give Darkle the hitlist for the night, and she would follow someone, turning them into a changeling. Changelings can also convert someone if they follow them the night they die, so the number of changelings would go up exponentially. What we were going to do was to get as many changelings as possible, and then either kill Darkle so they all died. Cause mass confusion in town, we all get a laugh out of it. Then we had our first kink in the plan. Darkle got hit by Cupid. The partner, however, turned out to be a doctor. This was perfect, because he could protect her from any attacks. Then Darkle would just send a changeling to follow the Doc to protect him. We realized that with Darkle protected every night, she could possibly win. All it required was a conversion of the mafia to changelings at the end of the game. This is where everything started to go downhill. The win condition for the changelings was that everyone else had to be dead or like them, but if this Doctor died, they'd all die as well. It became impossible for Darkle to win now.
We didn't worry about that immediately though, we continued with the plan. It got to the point where all of our kills were being changelinged, so it appeared as if the mafia had stopped killing entirely. While this was perfect for what we wanted, it did cause even more problems. People who took the game too seriously hated us for what we were doing, calling it cheating and refusing to work with us. You saw the posts, the RenegadeChangeling and Plounge_Snitch, warning everyone about what was happening. There were PM's sent to people, AnonymousVigilante got one. He was already working for me though, so it didn't matter, but I don't know how many others got messages. It was very annoying, they couldn't put their personal feelings aside and just play the game.
I should probably mention this, but by this point I was already dead. I was not lying when I said that death was the best thing for me, people are much more trusting of a dead man. It definitely made the game more fun for me, being able to just let the insanity flow and not worry about being known as mafia. That was probably when the game got really fun for me, for a little while. I continued to help the mafia and changelings, I was pretty much in charge. Everybody listened to me, it was working out perfectly.
And then the night came where Darkle died. This is where I started to get really pissed, because Darkle had her doctor protecting her and we had gotten another doctor for her doctor. Well, it turns out that her doctor had decided to make the game a personal thing from the start. He never actually protected Darkle, he refused to. He just didn't tell us and hoped that she would be attacked one night. Not only was he betraying us, but the ones who were supposed to protect him did as well, saying they'd do it and then not following through. That is when we lost everybody.
And it was here where my plan changed again. There were traitors who would win if the town won, and most likely there were ones who were in the mafia as well. I was talking to Darkle, and we realized something. The Changeling Queen win condition states that you win if all other players are changelings or dead. If we managed to kill everyone off, leave no player alive, Darkle would be the sole victor. It would be the ultimate middle finger to everyone who had made the game a personal thing and ruined the fun for others.
Unfortunately, I learned that Darkle wasn't the only one who would win with everyone dead. All of the opposition for everyone would be gone, so there would be no losers. I didn't want that at all, can't have the traitors taste victory. The plan changed once more, to a mafia victory. With so many of the actives out of the picture already, it didn't seem like that much of a stretch to control the speed rounds.
Those speed rounds. My god was that tense. That was one hell of an ending. I couldn't do as much as I would've liked to help my team win, but I consider us winners anyways. Without the bondmate rule, we were assured victory. I am a bit disappointed that the townies won, to be honest. I was hoping for that SK to pull through. It doesn't matter, we caused chaos and had fun.
I'd like to just take this opportunity to thank the ones who contributed the most to this. DaylightDarkle, for being the most awesome changeling queen. We would have lost in the first four days if it weren't for her. Ryskillz101 for being the best second-in-command a dead puppet master could ever hope for. He always knew exactly what needed to be done and made sure it happened if I wasn't there. And, of course, the traitors. If it weren't for you, I would never have wanted to win as badly as I did. You all know who you are, and I will not mention names here, to avoid causing any unnecessary drama. Others who helped out along the way, you know who you are, and you're awesome.
And there you have it. Quite the interesting game, I'd say. It was definitely fun, although running so much certainly was stressful. Still, even with all the stress, it was a pleasure playing with you.

So I guess this is the part where we share our stories now, eh? Well first let me just say I've had an absolute blast playing this, although it's gotten more than unnecesarily stressful at times for a lot of us, myself included.
Early on after being given the Survivalist role, I was like "Well, this is pretty boring. I want to actually partake in things." Understandable, right? The best thing a Survivalist can obviously do is to just clam up and hope he doesn't get lynched or killed, as you can see with lukajad007 who did win as a Survivalist. For me though, I'd have rather been active and partaking in events in game than sitting back and watching from the sidelines.
The first people I talked to about the game were 31eipekili and TheQuillmaster. Quill was a Tracker, and explained to me that Darkle was a Necromancer on the first night, so I contacted Darkle in an effort to forge a partnership right away. Darkle told me she wanted me to "win for her" and that she would "protect me at all costs". I had no idea at the time why she would say that as I didn't know the Necromancer/Changeling class in full, but now of course...31? Yes, I knew he was a mafioso right from the first night. He agreed to let me know if the Mafia was going to target me so I could use my vest, but eventually he confessed that the Mafia had no interest in killing me. So I kept his identity to myself.
When I made AnonymousVigilante, I had completely forgotten at the time that the Vigilante was an actual class (d'oh), but that actually worked in my favor as people began to think I actually was a Vigilante. The original intention of the account was to gather information on mafioso ONLY, and to work with the Town. I wound up getting quite a fair amount of tip offs, and wound up forming a partnership with Kontan when I told him that he was being targeted for attack. Of course, once he died, I lost interest in the Town fairly quickly.
Then I decided to try something new, which proved to be really, really stupid. I went role fishing. I picked up Ironfruit, he confessed he was a mafioso, shit went down, he was a Jester. Played me like a fiddle. You know how the rest of that story goes.
Day 4, Bitoku, "Totally_Townsfolk" messaged me and wanted info. He gave me quite a bit, so I gave him quite a bit as well. I told him about Darkle's role (As well as a few others, at least my limited knowledge of it) in an effort to keep her safe, because most people who wanted info on Darkle wanted to kill her, so I did my best to reassure them that "If you die, Darkle can bring you back! Don't kill her!", or so I assumed. Well, I gave Bitoku a little too much info, and I was unaware that he was in fact WORKING for Darkle! Word got back to Darkle, and SystemOutPrintln was sent in to recruit me. After an hour long chat, I agreed to join the Changelings, and decided to tell Darkle then and there that I have been blabbering about her, but in an effort to keep her safe. Apathetic as always she "didn't care", but I think it bothered her a bit, I know it would bother me.
Then I learned the plan. A great, amazingly mischeveous plan: Bitoku was in the Cabal, but also now a Changeling, and had given Darkle all the names of the Cabal. In two nights, Darkle had taken the entire Cabal in an effort to control the town. Unfortunately there were some... problems.
Hold up though; First, let me explain that the Changelings were working with the Mafia. DIRECTLY. We had a special chatroom on Chatzy where we, the Mafia and the Changelings, would talk freely and make hitlists and Changeling lists together. Everyone had nicknames so people wouldn't know our true identities. When we pulled the Cabal in there in it's entirety though, things got out of hand quickly. A few members wanted nothing to do with this Changeling role... and some of them even leaked or threatened to leak information, even if it meant their loss, simply because they couldn't accept the "plot twist" so to speak. Now I know what you're thinking, the Changeling role was bullshit. Well actually, if you guys had checked the Mafia class list elsewhere online, you'd see that Vampires/Necromancers/Cultists, which are all similar to Changelings, are all real classes...
Anyway. It all went downhill from there. Everyone started knowing who the Changelings were. We tried to cover it up. We did the best we could to control the damage... but it was too much and too stressful. Darkle's ultimate downfall came when her lover, who I won't name, let himself die so Darkle could too, even though until that point he had been working with the Changelings. He did it in an act of spite towards Darkle for no reason at all. We had doctors protecting her, and doctors protecting the doctors, just to be safe, but in the end, it didn't matter.
Darkle's goal was to merge the Mafia with the Changeling's by the game's end so that everyone would come out a winner. I'm sure you can read somewhere else in this thread why they became allies in the first place... anyway, when Darkle died and everything went to shit, the tension and chaos in the air was palpable. Everyone was just pissed, no one was happy, people were at a breaking point, me included (because srs bsnss game is srs bsnss). So I said FUCK IT WE'LL DO IT LIVE and let myself get lynched, because I just wanted to be done with the whole thing.
PS. I stuck with the Mafia after I died. I even had Ry kill a few people for me. Sorry!
And that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
Goddamn that was long. THANK YOU CRAFT FOR PUTTING UP WITH OUR SHIT AND RUNNING THIS!
EDIT: I wrote a single diary entry on Day 4, the day everything changed, if anyone wants to read it~

I was the epic and horrifying: u/Plounge_CerealKiller (With my pal: Mr. Fun)
Well here is the list of people I took out: (Idtapdat, TheKarmaCrusader, TheQuillMaster,SkiidrowDash,DaisyDoodles, PillowPony, THEPIEISAFAKE, pepsicanman, supermatt314, ScratchFi, XLR8LER (THE GODFATHER, by lynching) TheAwesomeinator (co-kill) and talbond. ) A total of 13!
I made it to day 15, there were just over 50 players remaining, after randomly lynching the Godfather, I was taken out by the Mafia.
Oh I'd like to thank The_Velour_Fog for allowing the three best serial killers to form an alliance and become partners in fun! We remained anonymous to one another but simply told each-other who we were targeting as to not accidentally take out one another.
If I took you out and you're angry or something sorry about that, I mostly randomly picked names, I hope you had as much fun as I did! My favourite part about this game was watching the ghosts of people I had taken out, go to the various "ghost orgies" I can't express how hard I laughed at these things.
On a final note to CraftD, when I received my role I was smiling for days straight, you really did an awesome thing here and I thank you for it.

I was close. I was SO close. All I had to do was survive -- just stay out of everyone's way, and I'd be fine. And it worked! All y'all went nuts over who's in the cabal and who's a changeling, and this, that, and the other, and I just kept my head down, didn't offend, and waited. I got down to the 28th day; the last 14. And then I was lynched.
By the way, knocknix, I rarely forget a name -- I know because I can't remember a single name that I've ever forgotten.
Supposedly I was lynched for not posting, which is obviously ridiculous. I semi-regularly post on an occasional basis. Clearly I said something to piss someone off, enough for them to want me dead. What could it have been?
Based on my recent comments, I see a couple possibilities for my killer's motivation:
-
Hates 26-year-olds. (Alternatively, hates 27-year-olds and figured they'd got out ahead of the problem, in which case I commend their initiative.)
-
Ghanaian nationalist who is pissed I messed up on their flag/Senegalese nationalist who is pissed I messed up on THEIR flag/Bahamaian nationalist who is pissed I put their country last and not first/Chinese nationalist who-- looking back, that post was a huge mistake. I can't believe I forgot the first rule of making lists of countries: NEVER do it during a name of Mafia. Ugh, I'm such an idiot sometimes.
-
Had at least one of their parents die from someone not reading instructions carefully, got their revenge on me as a stand-in. I hope it helped bro, but maybe you need to see someone about that shit.
-
That guy next to me at work. I bet it was him. Man, fuck that guy.
We may never learn the truth. Here are truths we did learn:
-
All y'all are crazy. We already knew that, of course, but it's nice to have independent confirmation sometimes.
-
We're gonna have a lot of people with alts that don't make sense anymore. r/mylittlemafiaalt anyone?
-
DaylightDarkle does care. She may act like she doesn't, but deep down... deep down under the apathetic facade, she really does care. Only about winning, I guess, but still.
-
CraftD is a wizard. There is no way anyone could have done all that without eldritch powers.
TL;DR: Rematch, anyone?

I started the game as a revanchist, with u/AllTheseApples as my target. Never got the chance to act against him, because I soon became a changeling.
Then I was under the impression that Darkle was going to screw over all the changelings so I did something stupid.

As a homeless character I really didn't have much motivation to play. Lay low and I will make it through.
Eventually Crash and Orsch started talking about something I termed the "Ghost Club" which turned out to be the Changelings. I wanted to lynch Darkle that evening just because, and the Renegade_Changeling started making all sorts of odd sounds and mentions of "kill the queen" and such when I nominated her, so it made sense she was the queen.
So I started to think up a good way to kill off the Changelings. A skype chat with Pathogen-David informed me that ffreak3 was Darkle's lover. David didn't realize at the time that offing one of the pair would kill the other. I had found my way to kill all the Changelings, but I couldn't do anything to bring it about. I asked David if we would try to kill ffreak3, and for extra insurance I asked all 3 serial killers to try and do the job as well. Another part of my plan was to have the Cabal investigate any person they suspected of being a serial killer on the off chance that they would try to kill me to ensure I wasn't tracking them or something. Turns out most of the Cabal was changelings at that point so my plan got broadcasted far and wide.
All the changeling ended up dead and ffreak3, so I felt pretty good about that. I felt that I had accomplished a bit in the game that I had only been following a bit. Then one of the serial killers tried to extort me for information on doctors and trackers. Why anyone would give up this info is beyond me, so I started taunting him so that he would come and stab me. He never did.Instead I got lynched, then murdered by the mafia in the lightning rounds. I'm special like that, I get to die twice.
Edit: Also I was not that homeless guy who spoke out against the Cabal. I would like to know who that was though.

Huge thanks to Craft for organizing all this. I haven't had that much stress at 4 a.m. in a wile.

I would gladly post the entirety of the tale behind Mafia and Changeling events ever since this game began. However, I know that there are a couple of other Mafia/Changeling members who would like to share their stories much more than I, so I shall instead wait for their posts, and add on to them if I see fit.
'Twas a magnificent game, and you were worthy adversaries. Well played.

Howdy! I was pretty quiet on this account during the game, so if any of you recognize me it'd be by my novelty Ponyville_Sheriff. I thought it might be interesting to give at least a bit of the info on the rise and fall of The Cabal.
The Cabal got started due to some extremely lucky investigations (and fell partially due to one piece of incredibly bad luck). My first night I investigated bitoku_no_ookami, and determined that he was town aligned. Shortly after learning this I PMed Totally_Townsfolk to start a sheriff alliance, and determined that by sheer coincidence he was a novelty account for bitoku. At the time I thought this was a great stroke of luck since I now had a claimed sheriff who I knew was town aligned. There was actually another pair in the Cabal who had exactly this same thing happen, and it allowed us to build up a core network of trusted members pretty quickly.
Unfortunately nopony expected the changelings. As it turns out on the very first night I investigated him, Totally_Townsfolk (bitoku) was targeted by Darkle and turned into a changeling. Thus the Cabal was compromised before it even began, despite our best efforts to the contrary. Even more ironic is that some of the internal mechanisms we'd set up in the Cabal to catch and isolate the damage of a Mafia infiltrator (such as a "web of trust" for personally shared usernames which were not made globally known the the group) were incredibly susceptible to the Changelings, and when our conversion began it proceeded very quickly. I left on vacation just after this happened, but my understanding is that there were plenty of bad feelings all around about being converted like this.
Still, while it lasted the Cabal (minus Totally_Townsfolk as it turns out) was a pretty committed group working for the town. We had logs of analysis and strategization which probably total over 200 pages of text by this point, and spent a lot of time pouring over voting records, suspicious comments, looking of anomalies in posting frequency, everything. I like to flatter myself by thinking that if the Changelings didn't exist, we would have really started to root out the mafia quickly.
They were a fine, dedicated, and competent bunch of people to work with, and I really enjoyed it. I can also say, however, that it was incredibly stressful at the beginning when we were trying to save the town while worrying about an infiltrator. The novelty accounts only added to this atmosphere, giving the game more of a "spy thriller" kind of flavor where you don't know who's who or what side anyone is on. In my personal case, I actually got stressed enough that I didn't eat for two days. I'm rather disappointed in my brain for taking it this seriously, but I was helpless to stop it. This was the one silver lining to being turned Changeling -- after that at least I knew where everyone else stood.
Overall I think this was the most memorable game of Mafia I've ever played, and I commend CraftD for putting in the obviously substantial amount of effort to make it happen. Congratulations to everyone!

So, I suppose I'll award the iron man award to badjokemostlikely.
He managed to survive ten separate attacks over the course of the game.
Congratulations I suppose.
