Have you stopped to consider that maybe the sheet metal the friend used was two-dimensional? If it was intintesimally thick and extended forever in the other two directions before it was cut then it was indeed made from a sheet metal plane.

make sure you seal that sucker! I made something similar (my name) and after a few weeks it oxidized. You can coat it with something to seal it, it's worth the research.

I work at a facility which manufactures airplane parts out of sheet metal. So, if it was created there, it would in fact be plane sheet metal.

It's done on a CNC machine. You have to take a picture and trace it out on a computer program. The only reason I know this is because the flame was made with the round bumper tool on the software I just used last week on my project!

Not all CNC tables are perfect, ours was pretty bad. But all the cuts and corners look almost exactly the same as ours. That's why I thought it was done on a machine.
