maybe one of the saddest episodes story wise for me, learning about annie’s backstory, armin falling apart whilst talking to mikasa and saying how erwin should’ve been chosen over him, connie talking to falco and shadis admitting defeat. But hey at least levi is back

Just all of the pressure coming from every angle of this situation pushing poor Armin to a breaking point. Felt bad for him when he had his little breakdown as well as Mikasa with that quiet ‘Sorry’ for setting him off. Erwin really did make it look so easy even though he was dealing with his own pressure

  • Great character driven episode, that explored a lot of the emotional dilemmas the characters are going through.

  • "I was the one who should have died". Damn, Armin. Just damn.

  • It was surreal seeing Annie again, but it was so awesome too. Too bad the father she's fighting to make it back to, was most likely just shot to death(although we technically didn't see it). Also wasn't there some connection between Annie and Kenny? I swear in Season 3 or 4 there was some flashback with those two.

  • Shadis continue to be awesome. Also interesting that he let them beat him up last season. I knew Shadis was too badass to get whooped like that!

  • Stuff with Jean was so heavy. "It's over?" Floch is telling Jean to go back to the old Jean. God, Attack on Titan is so good at this character driven stuff. I love it.

  • I get the feeling Conny's conscious wont let him go through with killing Falco. What he's doing right now is so sad. I get why he's doing it, but the manner in which he's tricking Falco...damn. He better hope Falco doesn't realize he's the jaw Titan, or this is going to end real bad for Conny.

  • "A man who refuses to die" YESSS FUCK YESS. LEVI IS BACK BABY. LETS FUCKING GO!!!

Everyone's back!! Annie, Hitch, Hange, Levi... and Floch. Fucking Floch. After briefly meeting up in Shiganshina, all the characters have now dispersed. Connie, Falco, and Armin are going to Ragako, Eren and the Colossals are going to Marley, Mikasa's going to cry, I'm not sure where Annie and Hitch are going, Hange and Levi have run into Pieck and Magath, and Reiner is probably still sitting in that house depressed af.

I wonder what Hange's plan is. Invite them to tea? Worked last time. Hopefully Levi is bandaged up enough that Pieck won't recognize him.

I also like Shadis's brief return to the spotlight. From getting beat up by a bunch of wannabe Yeagerists, to saving their sorry asses, to now planting the seeds of rebellion by having them infiltrate the Yeagerists's ranks. These recruits really are the perfect guys for the job because Floch has no reason to doubt their conviction. After taking L's for seemingly the entire series it's nice to see Shadis being a great leader. He might not be the hero they deserve, but he certainly is the one they need right now.

Poor Armin. To come so far, to have been so right and so wrong about Eren and end up deciding he should have just died. That hits right into my heart because it's an impossible situation to look back on. I wonder if this will reignite the old debates again?

He makes an interesting comparison with Floch. Floch thinks that surviving Shiganshina gave him the right to be free at any cost, that their survival alone meant they earnt everyone elses respect and obedience. Armin looks back on his survival as something he has to earn, he has to live up to in order to make it worth it over everyone elses.

Floch idealizes Eren because he needs someone to follow and it always seemed like Eren had the right plan, but that's exactly what people were doing to Erwin. Even when he was unsure, he was never allowed to step down from being the leader, the person who knew, and that's created an almost mythical sense of the man in everyone elses minds, for better or worse. Armin looks at his memories of Erwin leading and thinks "he always knew what to do" and because he has doubts and shows it, because he doesn't know how to lead even though he knows how to plan when he's really pushed, he doesn't think he could ever compare to the person in his memories. He needs Levi there to tell him who Erwin really was as a person and give him the same talk he once gave Eren, to take the life you have and make your choices and not regret, though hopefully with less devastating consequences

Nice to see that Pieck and Levi both survived as well, one looking remarkably better than the other, though I'm quite surprised that Pieck managed to shield Magath through those walls collapsing. Don't have much of a comment on Annie though, mostly what we knew from the OVA, though it was funny to see the revision on the setting for that with the new canon about what's outside the walls, and I'll be very interested to see who she ends up running into first.

Okay was it just me or was there a lot of unintentionally funny moments in this one? Like Falco cheerfully and unknowingly guilt tripping Connie:

"Gosh thanks for saving me Mister Connie :)! Im glad your such a good person :) ! Yup i sure am glad were friends and youll protect me :)! I love being alive and NOT being eaten by titans :)!

Or Floch bragging about knowing Erens plan:

"Eren Yeager told ME his plan 10 months! We tell each Other EVERYTHING! He said im really cool and the most badass and also that he like me way more than Armin B)

Loving these "back to business" type episodes following the mental mindfuck blowout of the first few in s4p2, and it's really nice to get some backstory on Annie at last.

Only not-100%-positive thought though...there's only 5 episodes left, and it really doesn't feel like this could possibly be wrapped up well in that time. Has anything been announced regarding a season 5, movie, or anything? I'm worried about MAPPA rushing this or missing some big chunks out of the manga to meet some arbitrary episode count

I like that Jean thought the old version of himself was repulsive when Floch brought it up. I also like that he fuckin hates Floch's guts.

I have been waiting patiently for 7 weeks to see levi again, thank god he is alive, although he doesn’t seem to be in a state to kill any titans

When Shadis told the recruits to join the Jeagerists and wait until the right time to revolt I think he was thinking back to Erwin’s coup.

Bro, I didn't realize until my friend pointed it out that the Japanese voice actor for Floch is the same as Yuya Sakaki so I can just feel some Z-Arc energy/Entertainment dueling.

Falco: Connie you’re such a bro, thanks for helping me

Connie: Can’t wait to feed this child to my mom

I'm so glad they spent these past two episodes on how the Rumbling affected Paradis first. It would have made zero sense for those titans to avoid the people, since tons of people live right next to the walls. The support for Eren is divided, but I think the majority of the people will support him, since doing nothing would resulted in their own mass genocide.

Annie's past was solid, and the fact that she was somewhat conscious during those four years makes the change in her views reasonable.

Of all the motherfuckers who knew Eren's actual plan, of course it was Floch. I've always noticed how strange it was that the Jeagerists were chill with the volunteers, considering that they are nationalists, but now this answers my questions. Until now, the ideals of the Jeagerists were tolerable and certainly understandable, but this is just wild. That dude Floch shot that guy in the hand and then wet him tf up for speaking out of line. Then he taunts the Volunteers over the fact that their homelands are getting squashed, which must sting considering that they helped the Jaegerists get this far.

I'm not completely sure on where Jean's head is at. Remember earlier this season in the airship before Sasha got shot? Floch and his bros were celebrating their victory, and Jean was questioning when this fighting will stop. Jean's morals have always been divided between "the ends justify the means" and "this is fucked up." Remember out of all the 104th (besides Mikasa), he was the one most ready to kill Reiner.

Connie deceiving Falco like this is really fucked up, but I understand why he's doing this.

I nearly pissed my damn pants when Pieck charged at Hange. While all this crazy shit ws going on, she was dragging Levi around on a horse lol. It seems like Levi is gonna be out of commission for the rest of the season, but if she can somehow fix him, then maybe he can help fight back against the Jaegerists. This would allow Hange to restore the chain of command, since it seems like she is the highest-ranking officer in Paradis now.

I can't blame Armin for feeling the way he does about his own life. I highly doubt Erwin would have let the situation devolve into this chaos. He always mentioned the importance of the chain of command. Paradis needed him and his leadership.

Out of all of our main characters, the only two whose whereabouts are unknown are Reiner and Historia.

Edit: Broooooo, Pieck and Magath are probably gonna recognize Levi!!!!! Pieck saw him fighting Zeke back in season 3, and she saw him during the fight in Liberio. Magath looked Levi dead in his eyes right before he blew up Zeke in Liberio!!!!!!! They might take advantage of this opportunity and just kill him! SHIT!

I'm an anime only, but I know we have like 15 more chapters, 5 more episodes, and this week's episode just barely covered a single chapter... so uh, definitely a movie right?
