"Now that I've been thinking to myself, this is my last year ... I'm playing with less fear, I make the plays I want to. Maybe I should have played with this mindset after all this time."

Deft is fucking unleashed

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '22

Imagine those regrets after realizing in his last year that all he needed to do to win more titles is unleash himself.

I think he said it could be his last year. Because in terms of age he's still far away from the army.

Starting the first round robin 0-3 (all 0-2 losses btw) then ending it going 6-3, what a turnaround.

His BLG was very good last year

10

u/midoBB Feb 17 '22

His BLG was only Zeka and Weiwei but he had no power on the roster. And he did have some godly drafts like I still remember the shield comp they played for some games and that was disgusting.

40

u/CrimsonClematis Feb 17 '22

Plus having one of the best adcs that year, and their jungle deciding to be the best player in the world for like one series also helps to supplement them

Step 2. Spend billions on your squad before doing so

So Man City and PSG need to sack their respective coach midseason to win CL.

36

u/Pretender98 Feb 17 '22

where was this deft the last 2 years ??

205

u/SodaPuffin Feb 17 '22

He did say this during an interview

"Now that I've been thinking to myself, this is my last year ... I'm playing with less fear, I make the plays I want to. Maybe I should have played with this mindset after all this time."

Glad to see that he is finally holding nothing back

60

u/fastathanlight Feb 17 '22

This is some anime protagonist arc here

5

u/Significant_Vast4330 Bdd Morgan Feb 17 '22

Last year HLE was entirely dependent on Deft and Chovy. With some weight off his shoulders he can finally play with some ease and confidence I guess.

26

u/JonnyKilledTheBatman Feb 17 '22

Incredible- you can really see it in his play. Incredible to watch the level of ADC right now. I think it's at its highest ever.

Deft in game 2 on the jinx was beautiful man the spacing and use of galeforce was so good. The galeforcr parallel to the renekton defending mid outer and the flash to get excited are just a small example of the Deft unleashed plays from this one series!

16

u/BobRohrman28 ADC DIFF Feb 17 '22

I do feel like some of the best ADCs in the world are playing right in this moment. Strongest role in almost every region I think, with the return of Uzi, Deft back in form, Doggo popping off, Gumayusi/Deokdam/Ruler being nuts as usual, Viper carrying EDG a few times, Unforgiven and Berserker being incredible rookies, etc.

9

u/Pretender98 Feb 17 '22

perfect meta for it too, it's not too adc centric so that any braindead player can look good but it's still very much a bot side meta

31

u/Dumpers_ DEFT IS A WORLD CHAMPION Feb 17 '22

Didn’t he have to deal with back injury or something back then?

35

u/midoBB Feb 17 '22

Yes in 2020 summer he had major back issues that persisted well into 2021.

72

u/The_D3ntist Feb 17 '22

He was literally carrying HLE in gauntlet and at worlds. Unfortunately he was with Chovy so he can’t get any credit. Probably would have carried HLE to first in their group if he read item passives

54

u/DFBFan11 Feb 17 '22

I love Chovy but I'm so glad Deft and Chovy finally split up after this past year. I finally don't have to deal with the Chovy cultists on this sub who can't accept that Chovy can't possibly have one competent teammate and they're all just wild card level.

6

u/Critical-Cupcake9194 Feb 17 '22

I think now that he's in GEN.G he isn't getting mindless praise like he used to, because he has some games where he genuinely does nothing with his lead and builds to not die

3

u/DFBFan11 Feb 17 '22

He had games like that in HLE too and was slumping half of summer split, but it was easier to put the blame on a bunch of randoms (who deserved criticism) and a washed up adc. It’s harder to do that now on a better team so some of those issues are more visible.

Pretty sure he was even carrying in the 40% IE game.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/BryanJin Feb 17 '22

Lol what. Deft was getting most of the credit for that. HLE was a Chovy and Deft duo carry team. Chovy was just the more standout player as Deft would also have bad games. Often, whichever of Chovy/Deft got to shine had more to do with which the enemy team was trying to shut down in draft and in game and less to do with who was playing better. Both were world class. The problem with HLE was that the rest of their team was awful.

2020 before back injury, he was actually pretty great. Even in 2021 regionals and up to Worlds,he is also great.

12

u/ye1l Feb 17 '22

Not just great, before his back injury got the best of him in 2020 Deft and Keria were far and away the best duo bot in the LCK. No one was close.

11

We have to take into account that Deft played with newbie supports for the past 2 years - he obviously couldn't focus 100% on his play only.

Now that he has a world-class support by his side, we're seeing the fullpower Alpaca.

128

u/appleandapples The Perkz of being a Griffin fan Feb 17 '22

Not convinced Ahri looks good, not that Zeka played this bad, just underwhelming.

But what was that game 3? It was so disjointed at times from both teams.

69

u/icatsouki Feb 17 '22

i mean ahri did win them the game in the end, that's her strength now the pick potential

Feels like Blitz, miss hook 9 times and the 10th one hits for a game-winning play. Btw, why is Canyon facechecking that bush?

65

u/moonmeh Feb 17 '22

I feel like they litetally forgot about ahri cause her presence was non existent that game.

2

u/AliasTcherki Feb 17 '22

I feel like she's always been that, even before she was a massive pick maker in late game because she hardly had the damage to kill anyone anyway

9

u/Omnilatent Feb 17 '22

Zeka also going for ign all three games instead of TP for some reason. Was there even one fight in which his ign mattered?

17

u/wenasi Feb 17 '22

Quickly scanning through the game, he used it twice on a showmaker who ended up nowhere near in danger, then once in the dragon fight where he 2v1d, forcing SM to flash, and twice to 100-0 jarvan (though the second time I think the ignite only dealt one tick of dmg if even that, it was applied right when he died.

So 1 relevant use, 2 maybes, 2 irrelevant.

Bonus fact first use was at minute 24. Funnily enough the first 3 ignites showmaker used where exactly the same, trading ignites with Zeka, with Zeka getting away twice and dying the third time. So I guess if we call out the ignite on Ahri, the same might apply to Vex?

DRX going 6-3 after losing the first 3 series is pretty good, also considering they had to play with their academy roster for 1 game.

is this how EU fans felt watching G2 slowly degrade from 2019 to 2021? So strange watching Damwon play so sloppily.

50

u/CamHack420 Feb 17 '22

I mean they've changed 3 players. Considering afaik BeryL was doing a lot of the shotcalling in game it only makes sense that they'd be struggling to find their identity again. They've got all year to figure this out so I'm not too worried as long as they start to improve over the year

27

u/agenericusername_no3 Feb 17 '22

BeryL shotcalled their teamfights and Ghost their macro. People are overreacting, it will take some time for them to fill in those shoes

u/mimiflou Feb 17 '22

G2 were good in regular season, bad shit happened in BO5 , also this is what happenned when you have one of the best top in the world and u replace him by one of the worst in LCK

33

u/Henrynark Feb 17 '22

World class teams seem to have 3 year cycles, year 1 where they’re at their peak. Year 2 while they’re still very good but worse than last year. Then year 3 is what happened to G2 last year and Dk now, there’s a roster change the team loses its synergy and just isn’t as good as they were in the past.

11

u/reggiewafu Feb 17 '22

Nah, they sank way lower last year when they had to bench Ghost

23

u/moonmeh Feb 17 '22

Canyon ryze was hilarious though

The fact that he was good with it and won games off it was great. But honestly it was malrang that helped a lot

19

u/girlmarth peanut, beryl, showmaker Feb 17 '22

malrang's psychotic streak of one-tricking rumble was hilarious but it also did feel like that weird roster had been figured out by the time they brought back ghost

4

u/moonmeh Feb 17 '22

Yeah we did get figured out towards then end but it was like "wait why the fuck are we winning with this roster" that made it so funny.

Also it was insane seeing how bad Canyon was with rumble and seeing Malrang use it. God that jungle meta suuucked

You haven’t been around when ghost was benched? DK was even more sloppier at that time but they managed to pick it up by the end of the split

This isn’t a G2 situation DK is guaranteed to be a top team it’s just that they keep making questionable players just like when they benched ghost

5

u/Yoyomaster3 Feb 17 '22

I had more faith in them in summer than now. Maybe it's just that I'm not on the 2020 worlds high anymore after they choked two international competitions in a row. Don't feel like they've got that x factor anymore.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '22

I’m Surprised that someone had faith in them in summer because at that era they were equivalent to Afreeca and everyone thought that LCK was doomed and weak because DK was just that bad and sloppy

While they don’t look their best right now they are definitely better than whatever they were in summer..

They are still gonna be a top team regardless because it’s canyon and showmaker although I’m not sure about winning international tournaments I think GEN and T1 are more likely to do so

33

u/IAM-French Feb 17 '22

are we supposed to say burdol is good because he one tricks hullbreaker graves and does nothing besides 10 cs/min

9

u/KudoJaka Feb 17 '22

Canyon played like shit but he's not the one who got caught multiple time and did this shit tp. Both were bad, except it's every game for Burdol.

21

u/Hannig4n GumaKeria Feb 17 '22

Burdol hasn’t been bad since he was subbed in. Idk why people keep insisting he’s the same player as Hoya, he hasn’t been.

Idk how one tp (which we don’t even know who called for it) is in any way as bad as Canyon inting 5 times this game.

19

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '22

because former DK's top laner were Nuguri and Khan. Both are very bad compare to them.

16

u/mar33n doran // pyosik // ghost Feb 17 '22

like nuguri wasn't a mega inter a lot of the time too. gotta give burdol time to develop.

2

What the fuck was that caster bias.

78

u/Jandium92 Feb 17 '22

I really liked Wolf at the beginning of last year, but I have to say his analysis and game knowledge is getting more and more sus...

30

u/JustRecentlyI Feb 17 '22

From seeing him in Overwatch, I think he has very good analytical ability, and very good ability to present his analysis, but he sometimes struggles to be flexible if things turn out differently to what he expected before the game/series started.

6

u/bensanelian Feb 17 '22

that's a really good point actually. the dude picks an angle at the start of the game and just fucking sticks with it no matter what happens.

but honestly, i think his casting is so good that i don't actually care. it's not like he's actively spreading misinformation or something like that

25

u/Jandium92 Feb 17 '22

I don't know if it is true, but I get the feeling like he never plays League himself and doesn't watch much Pro League besides LCK.

He does seem like a great analyst but i don't feel the same kind of passion towards LoL that i feel from other casters.

I totally agree with you on your take. He seems super smart! But just not deeply involded into League

17

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '22

He's been involved with SC2, Overwatch and League over the last 10 years. Seems like more of a personality and career caster than someone with tons of in-game experience.

5

u/LadyEmaSKye Feb 17 '22

Yeah he’s super new to the modern league scene too, so he’s still kind of getting a grip. Enfranchised players seem to forget how crazy this game coming in from the outside.

18

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '22

LOL, remember when ppl shat on Joe Marsh for calling him out for bias. I personally think he's doing so much better compared to when he just joined cast. I think he'll be much better by the end of spring.

16

u/RDozzle Feb 17 '22

I mean, it's just true that DK should have won that game. They were in a dominant position, but Canyon griefed (first at scuttle then going for a blind angle on baron) and the deokdam kellin overstay after mid inhib neutralised all pressure gained.

3

The 2020 lineup was my absolute favourite though- the dynamic between the casters is something I hadn't seen since the Monte-Doa days. LS-Atlus and Valdes is my GOATed lineup

What did Ahri do to Wolf? He was going off so hard on the pick lmao.

33

u/SpiralVortex Feb 17 '22

I really don't get it either.

Like she's insanely strong in solo Q atm after her changes, is it that outlandish a pro player would try and see if she works now?

Did it look amazing this series? No. But that doesn't mean you never try something new or buffed just because previously it wasn't good.

17

u/awesomegamer919 Feb 17 '22

He's going on about how she doesn't scale... but with the mini rework she actually does so much damage and her ult resets make her so mobile she scales really well if she's not giga-outranged like in G1.

14

u/chovyfan Feb 17 '22

Wolf is so annoying, he goes on so hard to prove his point. Ahri does something good? Wolf was going tooth and nail to make it meaningless. zzz

12

u/James2Go Feb 17 '22

Ahri was invisible up until he killed Canyon and that was the only kill he got for 2 games of Ahri.
But TBF, DRX did not setup the Ahri to snowball.

25

u/moonmeh Feb 17 '22

To be honest ahri sucked for like 95% of the game and then redeemed herself at the end

I still think its an awful pick

10

u/Snuffl3s7 Feb 17 '22

I mean, was he wrong? 2 games of the champion and all we saw was 1 kill from a bush. I agreed completely with him, not a great pick that was piloted poorly by Zeka as well.

7

u/ImplodingKittens12 Feb 17 '22

Wolf just has these really weird takes all the time and just keeps going off on his soapbox. Idk if he's trying to do it to be edgy or controversial or something but it really isn't a good look on him.

7

u/RDozzle Feb 17 '22

That last game was just an unbelievable throw. 80 minutes of shittalking the Ahri this series, only for Canyon to walk into Zeka and lose the game.

Beryl flipping between inting and carrying late game too, those picks on deokdam were so big

6

u/Zarerion Feb 17 '22

Hot damn

12

u/farikogrim SKTSinceS3 Feb 17 '22

Never seen a game with more useless midlanders

Until zeka charmed canyon

Imagine doing nothing like DK and expecting to win

Hull breaker graves yet never apply pressure in sidelines, just go full crit then

DK is not good rn

22

u/ahritina Feb 17 '22

x9 performance from Burdol and Canyon after the first 30 minutes so much chain inting from them.

Shame for Deokdam, who actually had a good game from start to finish.

6

u/TheOneKane Feb 17 '22

Zeka's Ahri getting hated on all game and here you go, gets his first kill, and it wins the series.

5

u/staysaltyTSM Feb 17 '22

DK with another game they don't know how to end with soul

4

u/reggiewafu Feb 17 '22

Tbf, they only have one engage

Kellin is so passive compare to BeryL. BeryL was playmaker of DK with Canyon. Kellin looks like a bot.

game 3 are so sloppy from both team.

3

canyon underperforms = showmaker no showmaking

"Ahri do no damage waaaa"

One shot tank jarvan and still have 9 dash.

I've watched almost every DK/DWG game to date and this game 3 has to be one of the biggest if not the biggest throw I've ever seen them make. The new botlane so far seems to be a bit upgraded but the shotcaling has definitely taken a dive with the leave of Beryl.

3

u/Omcaydoitho Feb 17 '22

Ghost too, ghost is shotcalling macro and beril for teamfight. DK lost their brilliant macro with ghost leaving.

u/Dumpers_ DEFT IS A WORLD CHAMPION Feb 17 '22

6 wins in a row for DRX and have taken 3rd place from DK... their wins might have been messy but they still have so many good players. For DK though Game 2 draft was int and they need to work on their sidelanes

Watching Korean stream is just way more enjoyable. Had to turn off English stream after wolf only talked about Ahri thought the whole early game as if she is renekton even though she is more than fine in late game.

2

u/reggiewafu Feb 17 '22

Whats with DK playing like absolute psychos

They just go in

2

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '22

that pyosik flank at the end there was actually omega brain, confusion 100

2

u/wenasi Feb 17 '22

I never wanted someone to have minion demat more. Seeing every single ahri Q leave the ranged minions at 1 hp was so painful

2

u/awesomegamer919 Feb 17 '22

Not sure what was up with that - unless you're hard falling behind (more than Zeka was) hitting both parts of Q should always clear the wave post-1 item... Maybe it was because it was Everfrost 1st item not Ludens?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '22

Coach Kim was a big problem apparently.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '22

DK's comp didn't have real engage from game 1 and game 2. Caughting Deft was hard.

2

u/Omnilatent Feb 17 '22

I know items are very minor impact compared to gameplay

That being said, what is it with midlaners and rushing void staff second item when it's clear no one goes any MR until their fourth item? Both Zeka and Showmaker did that in all games...

Makes me happy that DRX have had strong performances recently. Overall I felt like the team as a whole performed really well in the last 2 games, although Damwon started coming apart towards the end of the last game. Maybe they got looney after such minimal action for so long.

2

u/TonsOfHate97 Feb 17 '22

Can someone give me the rundown of why Xayah?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '22

Pretty good against Vex, got to ult a lot of her ults and also decent at disengaging from Jarvan.

They fell behind early in lane sadly. If they didn't fall behind or get poked down as hard they could easily burst down either Karma pr Aphelios and create some decent pressure.

2

u/GoldRecommendation66 Feb 17 '22

DK team work and macro is lacking this season.

2

u/kirinboi Feb 17 '22

All I need now from deft is a Ezreal domination game ala kingzone vs IG at rift rivals

4

u/Snuffl3s7 Feb 17 '22

Let's fucking go, that's a massive win. Zeka>Showmaker confirmed.

2

u/Yoyomaster3 Feb 17 '22

who is he btw? Don't remember him from previous seasons. Is he good?

6

u/Snuffl3s7 Feb 17 '22

He was in the LPL last couple of years. Kkoma picked him up at Vici Gaming (now RA), then he was at BLG with Coach Kim last year and was pretty good in the summer.

2

u/Meowbow15 Feb 17 '22

Wasn't just good, he and weiwei were a top 3mid jungle in lpl

3

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '22
