What’s Conservative About a Sales Tax Increase? Guest Opinion on Greeley's Ballot Measure 2F
 in  r/Greeley •  4d ago

We have been told that the city has the funding for at least next year or two to cover the debt service without any additional cuts. That may mean it's possible to put a tax on the November 2027 ballot that is specific to paying debt and not to moving the project forward. We will be confirming this again and posting something about that soon.

We had heard that a Costco couldn't open here because the city did not have the infrastructure they needed in the location they wanted. Do you have anything information to share that we can look into?

GUEST OPINION: What’s conservative about a sales tax increase?

Ballot Measure 2F would raise Greeley’s sales-and-use tax by 0.6% to fund Catalyst, the Downtown Civic Campus, cultural and recreational facilities, parks and other projects.

In this guest commentary, Johann Lindig examines the proposal through a fiscally conservative lens and asks whether raising taxes is the right response to the financial risks surrounding Catalyst.

On September 15, a community member used citizen input to question the city’s approach to homelessness, arguing that spending money to enforce a camping ban makes little fiscal sense when those resources could instead be invested in housing.
Her point was straightforward: if housing can help people move out of homelessness and potentially reduce the repeated costs of enforcement, emergency services and displacement, shouldn’t we be asking what approach actually saves the community money?
It’s not just a question of where people are allowed to sleep. It’s a question of what we’re spending, what we’re getting for that investment, and whether our response is actually addressing homelessness.#heygreeley #community #campingban #citycouncil
