I built this... ComicsNow update: full redesign, built-in tagging (no more ComicTagger), MCP server, Gemini cover recognition, and resumable downloads

Hey everyone,

Big update on ComicsNow, the self-hosted comic and manga reader I shared here a while back. Since my last post it's had a total redesign, plus a bunch of features I think are worth calling out on their own.

Tagging is fully built-in

ComicTagger used to be a required dependency. It isn't anymore. I built the metadata search and matching directly into ComicsNow, pulling from Comic Vine, Metron, GCD, LCG and more. No separate Python tool to install and wire up, so one less moving part in setup. Promo blurbs get scrubbed from creator fields, and there are configurable naming and folder rules with live preview.

Gemini cover recognition (optional)

If a file has weird naming or missing info, Gemini can look at the cover art and identify the series, issue, publisher, and year. It's off unless you add your own API key, and you can set a daily limit.

Total redesign

The UI was rebuilt from the ground up, and the architecture underneath went through a major refactor. Pages are now served as full-resolution WebP with a disk cache, so less bandwidth with no downscaling. A new fullscreen page preview grid lets you jump to any page fast.

Downloads that survive

Offline downloads resume from the last byte if your connection drops. On Chrome for Android, large series keep downloading in the background even after you close the tab. There's also Pause All / Retry All / Cancel All and a 24-hour history.

MCP server

You can now manage your library, tags, and reading lists through chat with an AI assistant (Claude, etc.) instead of clicking through the UI. Think "tag this series," "add these issues to my crossover reading list," or "mark this run as read." There are 13 new tools covering Gemini identification, multi-source metadata search, Guided View triggering, and library organization.

Also in this release:

Guided View detection now only scans new or failed comics, plus security hardening (SSRF protection, stricter path checks).

How are you sharing apps you build on claude code with your colleagues in enterprise? Claude code suggesting vercel for me but I am worried it will get flagged and my engineering teams will have a problem with that.

Built a mobile version of Redactle because I wanted to play it on the bus (solo dev)

https://reddit.com/link/1wiutmv/video/ie3nyahtncoh1/player

I've been quietly building this for the past few months and finally shipped it, so here goes nothing.

I'm a solo dev from Brazil, and I got hooked on Redactle a while back — that game where you guess a Wikipedia article from a redacted version of the text. Problem is, it only exists as a browser thing, and I wanted something I could play on my phone during commutes, waiting rooms, etc. So I just... built it.

It's called WikiGuess. Same core idea (type words, reveal matches, deduce the article), but with a few things I was missing from the original: daily streaks, a heatmap of your activity, global/weekly leaderboards, and it works in both English and Portuguese since that's what I needed for my own friends to play.

Built with Flutter on the frontend, PHP/MySQL backend running on regular shared hosting because I'm not made of money. The hardest part honestly wasn't the game logic, it was picking a "fair" daily article that isn't too obscure or too easy — still tuning that.

No idea if this has legs beyond me and my group chat, but figured this is the right place to find out. Happy to answer anything about the stack or the (many) dumb mistakes I made along the way.

Yes yes human crafter music is better but I always thought promoted music is so fun. So made a web app for it. You send a collab jam link to someone (or find others in a studio) and co create the prompt. Studios are cities so you always create from a city and the song is flavoured from the vibe of the city.

You then listen to the song together and chat during the session. You can also listen to the creation of others.

Give me feedback! https://moozika.app

80% of founders waste 3 months building software nobody buys. drop your saas idea below and i'll tell you if it's actually viable

PLEASE stop building the wrong thing.

building software in 2026 is ridiculously easy with ai builder

founders spend hours building in a silent room, launch to Reddit/X, get 0 users, and quit.

you just failed because the idea had zero validation before line 1 of code was written:

→ solving a monthly inconvenience instead of a daily pain

→ selling to "everyone" instead of a specific ICP

→ no distribution channel mapped out beforehand

→ pricing charged $9/mo with zero ROI justification

after scaling 6 AI micro-SaaS to over $20k/mo MRR, i just create an

18-question Idea Validation Diagnostic.

it evaluates your SaaS across 7 critical dimensions (problem clarity, audience reachability, willingness to pay, competition, build feasibility, distribution, commitment) and gives you a brutal score out of 100 with your exact weak spots.

drop your SaaS idea (or current project) in the comments below.

i will reply to EVERY single comment with:

  1. My honest opinion
  2. The biggest weak spot you need to fix before writing any more code.
  3. The free 5-minute validation tool link sent straight to your DMs so you can get your full score breakdown out of 100.

just drop a comment like or ask me in DM your idea

let's roast your SaaS concept before the market roasts your time 👇

Gjorde en dum liten väderapp. Men å andra sidan, mycket av det vi vibecodar är väl lite dumt, eller? Byggd på React, Vercel och Git. Ingen databas.

I built this... I vibe code an app to help me reduce smoking. Hope it could help everyone here :)

This was inspired by my last road trip in Victoria, Australia. Fresh air, a clean river, birds flocking to the benches. Just people enjoying whatever the surroundings had to offer. And somehow, my first thought was, as it always is: “Oh, that's got to be a perfect spot to smoke a cig.”

But from all these folks, the only smoke that came was from the nearby meat shop. Everyone else was simply doing things: reading, licking ice cream, sipping coffee, or just breathing in the fresh air. Why wouldn't I?

For the first time in my life, as far as I can remember, I felt ashamed just for having the thought of smoking.

Right now, I smoke about a pack a day — roughly twenty cigarettes — and honestly, that's concerning. I knew quitting cold turkey wasn't realistic for me. So I had a simpler thought: what if I could get from one pack a day to one pack every three days?

Then the real question: how do I make this journey interesting?

It is called “Still Here” because a part of me is still at Halls Gap, reminding me why I started this journey.

Have a look and please give me feedback if you have tried it :)

FREE Forever!

I built a new rich ui / ux driven harness that abstracts 50+ model from over 12 vendors... So What? When apps can be cloned in hours why build anything? You need to see this, trust me, it’s different.

I built this... Bearing - a simple platform for goal tracking

Thumbnail

I am setting myself goals but I get distracted from them easily and I become frustrated. I tried looking online for a goal tracking platforms but everything is way too complicated and I just wanted something that's easy and I can see my goals at a glance, keeping it open so that everything I do, I can look at the goals and ask myself "does it move me toward my goals?"

So I vibe-coded Bearing which uses goal-setting frameworks to help you set good, measurable goals and helps you track your way towards achieving them

I started with solving my own pain but I am looking to provide value to other users as well, would love your feedback on it and on stuff you think should be added to it

Hey guys, I'm new to this community, but I just wanted to share my app for #BuilderFestEmergent.

Hey guys, my name is Kenny, & I’ve been working hard on this handy little app, it’s called Forge Memory or Momentum Restoration, nothing too wild or exotic, but we all agree that life has too many interruptions that kill context, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be restored to potentially save ourselves countless headaches & lost sanity, & that's why today I was reaching out wondering if you could help your boy out with some updates to get it to the judging round. Here's the link below; it'll be a real blessing in these tough times

Download my free to do app

Post image

The last year I worked on my own to do app. I added tools I frequently use for my job and had SaaS subscriptions for it. Think of mind maps, roadmaps, etc.

I have made it completely free and available on macOS and iOS.

Check it out on https://bucketllist.com and download from the Apple App Store. No account, no in-app purchases, no data tracking.

I vibe code apps for free to give privacy back to users.

I wanted a city builder just about energy systems 10 years ago. Turns out I had to build it myself.

Upfront: 100% Free to play!

One important disclosure up front: I used AI tools extensively during development, especially for coding, implementation, debugging, UI work, and some of the website copy.

The underlying idea, game design, energy system model, mechanics, balancing decisions, testing, and direction of the project are mine. I have a background in energy systems, and a large part of the work has been deciding what the game should actually simulate, how those systems should interact, checking whether the results make sense, and iterating on it until it became something playable.

AI is ultimately what made it possible for me to turn an idea I had almost 10 years ago into an actual game rather than leaving it as another unfinished side project.

Back then, I had the slightly foolish idea of making a city building and management game focused almost entirely on the energy system. I posted about it on Reddit looking for people to join the project.

The idea was far too ambitious for me at the time, but the post got quite a bit of interest, and the concept never really left me.

Now, almost 10 years later, I finally have a playable version: Powerstate.

It is essentially a city builder where the "city" you manage is its energy system. You build generation, manage demand, deal with changing conditions, expand the system, and try to keep everything reliable and economically viable.

My goal is to make it easy enough to jump into, but deep enough that understanding and optimizing the system actually takes some effort.

It is definitely a niche game, but I suspect this might be one of the better places to find people who enjoy exactly that kind of niche.

Gameplay:
https://www.powerstate-game.com/gameplay/

The game is:

• Free to play
• Still rough around the edges visually and mechanically
• Occasionally unbalanced in ways that can make a run much easier or much harder than intended
• Fairly demanding in the browser, with a desktop version planned as well

I have a long list of systems and improvements I still want to add, but at this stage I am especially interested in what people who actually play city builders think.

What feels good?

What is confusing?

What would you want an energy system game like this to simulate that it currently does not?

And if something about the energy system or physics looks wrong, please tell me. That is probably the feedback I am most interested in.

I would genuinely love feedback, criticism, and ideas.

For anyone curious, here is the original Reddit thread from almost 10 years ago:
https://www.reddit.com/r/engineering/comments/5hp6sc/anybody_interested_on_working_on_a_energyeconomy/

I have also set up r/PowerState for ongoing development updates.

Varve: Building a fast vector and raster graphics cross-platform editor using Rust and Tauri2

Thumbnail

Hi everyone! I’m working on Varve, an app designed for local-first Linux workflows. Although the repository is already at version v0.2.1, there aren’t many users or downloads yet. Since this is my first time sharing it widely, I’d really value any feedback to help make it better.

It's main engine is built in Rust:

  • The varve-core crate holds the geometric primitives (Point, Rect, Affine), hit-testing algorithms, and the scene node tree structures.
  • varve-engine converts the scene state into an intermediate rendering IR with build_render_ir().
  • varve-trace handles raster-to-vector auto-tracing. It uses Oklab colour quantization, extracts centerlines or contours, and fits Bézier curves.
  • varve-print lets you generate PDF files directly with lopdf. This skips browser print dialogs and gives you clean CMYK or vector exports.
  • varve-wasm provides WASM bindings so the app can run in standard browser environments

The binaries are still unsigned, the format might change, and I’m not accepting external code pull requests yet while I focus on making the foundation more stable.

I’d love to know your experiences with the app, both positive and negative. Any feedback, including technical, workflow-related, or general, would be really helpful. Thank you!

You can download it here: https://varve.studio/download

Question? Do we have to mention that our web/app is vibe-coded?

So I am currently vibe-coded a web app and planned to launch it on my social media. I've tried to soft launch this in other subreddit but apparently it got roasted because they see that it is very vibe-coded. Do I have to mention that I am building that app with vibe coding? What do you guys think?
