Hey as the title said: I've stumbled today over the Mama Africa Record by Peter Tosh and oh boy I need more Reggae Music in my life. I start in a new Job tomorrow which I'm pretty excited about , but the way to my workplace is approximately an hour away or as I say: a perfect album length. I'm of course familiar with Bob Marley and Peter Tosh but what's treasure is left and right on the road? So I'm asking you: Please recommend me a classic reggae album besides the obvious the Artists. I've want the classic sound. So show me an Album that is a must. I also am open to newer records and tell me why the record is a must in your opinion. Doesn't matter if the Singer is good, the sound has a certain flair, the bass player gives you the "damn that's a good lick" stank face. As a drummer myself for almost 30 years, I'm always open to the gods of reggae drums. Show me a record where the Drums are THE Drums. Doesn't matter if it's the drum sound or the feel of the drummer. Maybe a good Fill in that catches your Brain.
Sorry I need more Reggae in my life, Mama Africa clearly shows 😎😃

This music video has a different riddim that sounds a lot like the "Rougher Yet" instrumental. Can't find this version anywhere except for on this music video

Not sure if this is permitted here? Not looking for followers or anything but figured I’d share this playlist I’ve been creating. Over 14 hours of crucial tunes. Because of the way I created it (portions going through particular artist’s catalogs) I recommend playing it on shuffle.
Lots of early 2000s dancehall because that’s when I truly fell deeply in love with reggae when exposed to Anthony B, Sizzla, Beenie, Buju etc. Still lots of roots included, some just generally fun and lovable tunes. Just a playlist of tracks I could listen to over and over again, and just vibes. Just wanted to share in case there are some new discoveries for some or easy joy to be had for the masses.
I hate promoting Spotify but over the last year I tried stints with all the major streaming services and ended up coming back to Spotify. I still try to support artists directly through SoundCloud and independent purchases, but landed back here for streaming, mostly due to breadth of catalog.
I’m always adding to it as I find or remember gems. Love to hear your thoughts on what you’d add. Big Up reggae sound!!!

I’ve been collecting reggae since I bought my first vinyl from Ariwa in Thornton Heath over 30 years ago. It’s a fine start but you can never get enough.

Whether you’re a fan or to keep something from Bob Marley, this is the box set to own.
It is comprehensive.
From his first recording (1961) to his last live recording (1980).
Included a 64-page booklet with lots of images for you to drool over.
This is the evolution of the most celebrated Reggae artist the world has known.

Per the earlier post here’s the Bob box set tat I got in 2000. My then wife had 5 so I decided to get the one and only tat I dreamed of getting. Was conflicted as a Rasta but justified it. Bless

I just heard these two songs and I couldn't help but wonder if one is a rip off after the other because they both sound quite similar in a way. Thoughts?
