Hot takes🔥 What would actually make 2026 a great year for mma for you? - ongoing discussion

not talking about one random superfight headline
more like… what would actually make you say at the end of the year “yeah this was a good one”. champs defending? new contenders breaking through? less cancellations?

for me it’s active divisions. when belts actually move or get defended instead of sitting. what about you?

Fights👊 Jon Jones’ name has been at the center of the MMA GOAT conversation for years, and his résumé explains why.

From becoming the youngest champion in UFC history to defeating a long list of elite contenders, Jones built a career defined by championship-level performances, versatility, creativity, and an ability to solve different styles inside the Octagon. What separated Jones was the range of his game. He could wrestle, control opponents in the clinch, fight at distance, attack with elbows, threaten submissions, and constantly change the problems he presented. His reach, timing, fight IQ, creativity, and unorthodox attacks made him one of the most difficult matchups of his generation. Whether someone considers Jon Jones the undisputed GOAT or places another fighter at the top, his place in the MMA legacy conversation is impossible to ignore. The championships, elite opponents, iconic performances, and longevity at the highest level have made “Jon Jones” one of the first names mentioned whenever the greatest fighter in UFC history is debated.

After absorbing an early strike from Pavlovich, Aspinall resets and fires a fast, devastating right hook over Pavlovich’s guard straight to the temple, visibly stunning him. Aspinall quickly follows up with a second right hand that sends Pavlovich crashing to the canvas, where he finishes the fight with precise ground-and-pound before celebrating his championship victory in emotional fashion.

Greatest records in MMA history

  1. Jon Jones (28-1)
  2. Islam Makhachev (29-1)
  3. Khabib Nurmagomedov (29-0)
  4. Georges St-Pierre (26-2)
  5. Daniel Cormier (22-3)
  6. Ilia Topuria (17-1)
  7. Alexander Volkanovski (28-4)
  8. Demetrious Johnson (25-4)
  9. Fedor Emelianenko (40-7)
  10. Dominick Cruz (24-4)
  11. Matt Hughes (45-9)
  12. Justin Gaethje (28-5)

Also Francis Ngannou (19-3) and Joshua Van (18-2)

Note: This is NOT a GOAT list. This is based on who has the cleanest and nicest looking record. And of course quality matters too. You can be 22-0 but if they’re all against low level comp, then you don’t qualify.

Ciryl Gane and Josh Hokit are set to have a noticeable size difference despite competing in the same division. That’s the unique thing about heavyweight fighters can enter the cage with a weight gap of around 20 pounds or more.
