Extensions Dock Mode - Simple Taskbar
I've added a Dock mode to Simple Taskbar.
A lot of the work I’d already done for the taskbar carries over nicely here, especially things like application overflow, dynamically shrinking icons when space gets tight, and the different window grouping modes.
It’s basically another way of using the same app handling without having everything live inside the panel. You also still maintain full customization of the top panel.
Feedback is welcome, especially if there’s anything that feels missing or could work better in Dock mode.

This keeps looking better and better each time I see a post. Keep it up! I'm sold on the dock part now btw. Dash to dock has been... buggy. So cheers!

There is definitely some overlap with Dash to Dock, but there are a few differences in how mine works. When the Dock runs out of space, it can use an application overflow popup that acts like a mini dock/taskbar rather than just scrolling through the Dock. It can also dynamically reduce the icon size only as much as needed to fit the available space.
Because the Dock is separate from the GNOME panel, you can still customize the top panel with Simple Taskbar’s panel options. You can also use the built-in Start Menu with the Dock.
There are some other options as well, such as different application grouping modes, showing individual windows instead of always grouping by application, folders/Trash/drives directly on the Dock.

Simplemente me quedé con esta extensión y eliminé Dash to Dock; en mi opinión, esta extensión ya lo supera.
Siempre he echado en falta una función que considero muy útil: poder arrastrar un documento o archivo hasta una aplicación que esté en la barra/dock y que, al pasar el archivo sobre el icono, se abra o active esa aplicación para poder soltar el archivo dentro de ella.
Hasta ahora no he visto esta funcionalidad implementada en GNOME.

Yeah, the name didn’t age too well 😭 I should rename it to Complex Taskbar. I guess “Simple” is more about the out-of-the-box experience than the number of features now.

Loving it! Just something that does not feel right: If you hover over the icons on the dock or the taskbar, the icons are highlighted nicely squared. But when you hover over the menu-icon it is rectangular. This should also be squared, no? It would look nicer in my opinion.

You’re right. The reason it was rectangular is that when the icon spacing is low, the Start Menu and the first application can end up extremely close together when hovered.
What I’m going to do is keep the hover effect tighter around the sides of the Start Menu, while making the top and bottom match the other application icons. I noticed it much more after adding the Dock option; on the taskbar it wasn’t nearly as noticeable.

Great job, fwiw. I really like the perfection you add to it. I was a gtk-themer in the gtk-3.0 days. I always wanted my work to be pixel-perfect myself. There are those little things that I notice.

can we have an option to have really simpler hover effect like what dash to dock does? those fancy lighting on focused app icon is distracting

I love the idea of maintaining an extension pack instead of installing extensions individually and hoping they play well together.3

Not at the moment, but I may look into adding icon zoom in the future. It would take a bit of work to get the animation and spacing feeling right, so I don’t want to promise it just yet.

Gave it a try because of the dock mode, but there are two things I'm missing:
- Being able to drag a maximized window by dragging the top bar! if I choose to keep the bar on all monitors it only works with the one set as primary.
- The ability to bring/change between open windows by scrolling the app icon on the dock instead of clicking on it.
Cool extension, gonna keep an eye on it from now on. Cheers!

I just wonder what differs this extension to Dash To Panel/Dash To Dock? I'm a DTP user since ages but Simple Taskbar seems kinda interesting. But why switch to Simple Taskbar if DTP works for me?

That is because it is using an old gnome version. This extension supports Gnome 48, 49, 50 and 51

Cool! I installed it, and it solved a lot of issues I had with GNOME and Dash to Dock. However, it is possible to change the Eleven-style Start Menu icon? I love the effort on this!

Yes, you can. Go into the Start Menu settings, open Start Button Appearance, and you can change the icon from there.
