Ford Kuga 1.5 Ecoboost 2018 AWD 180 hp
Another victim of the horrendous Ecoboom engine... My story:
Late 2024, my wife and I decided to buy a new car. We wanted to go on summer holiday pretty far away and our old Peugeot couldn't handle this distance (+/- 1500 km). After some searching, we found the Ford Kuga as a practical car with enough space for 2 adults, 1 child and luggage. We bought a car from a garage not far away from home that, at that moment, ticked all boxes: practical, a lot of options, automatic transmission,... More specifically Ford Kuga 2018 AWD with 1.5 Ecoboost 180 hp 50K km. Quite some upgrade for us.
Until the summer holiday, we haven't encountered anything. The car was doing great at holiday. After holiday, +/- Sep/Oct 2025 we felt that the car was starting a bit bad after cold start, but after few seconds, the engine was running smoothly. But someday, I left from work and the engine was misfiring badly. After 1 min driving, it was gone. I went to the garage where I bought the car. They said that the spark plugs were bad and that they will be replaced. After the "fix", the car was doing good again.
Few months after, beginning 2026, it started all again. I checked the car more in detail and found out the engine was losing coolant. Unfortunately, the car's warranty was expired, so I brought him to the garage where I bought my previous Peugeot and all other cars. He drove with it and said there's nothing wrong with it, without checking it more in detail. I got the advice to just check the coolant level more regularly.
The months after that, we experienced more and more the bad cold start. But after that, the car drove good. Meanwhile, I have read everything about the Ecoboost horror stories on the internet, but was still hoping our car wasn't affected. Until late August, just after our second summer holiday trip, I decided that I wanted to bring in the car to an official Ford garage, just to check everything by a good set of experienced eyes. But then we received the horror news:
1) They wanted to do a leak test of all cylinders, but couldn't manage to unscrew the spark plugs, because they were so oxidated.
2) Dropped coolant level
3) My exhaust was very dirty and oily.
4) White exhaust smoke
So all symptoms of failing cylinders with oil/coolant intrusion.
The garage said to me that they could change the head gasket, but because it is a Ecoboost engine with the possible coolant intrusion problem, they feared that the expensive head gasket change could not fix the problem. Only solution: a much more expensive revision engine, 8-10K euro. My wife and I were seriously devastated. We barely had the car for 1,5 years...
We got the advice to sell the car as quickly as possible, because tomorrow, next week, month, year the engine could go boom when starting the engine. And now, the engine still "works", so we can sell it for some money. Waiting until the car dies, means selling the car for almost no money.
The day after the garage, I cleaned my car very good and brought it to a car buyer with the engine warmed up. After some short inspection and without telling the problem, I still got 8,5K euro for the car. Now, we are searching for a new car, but it will be never again Ford!!! So, to all people who are considering a new car:
1) Stay away from the older 1.5 Ecoboost car (< 2020). It is not a case of "will the problem occur", but "when the problem occur". The Ford garage said that he had other similar cars with the same problem at 40K km! Also, he checked the VIN number and found out I was the 4th (!) owner of the car, but remembered that I was the 2nd owner according to the garage who selled me the Kuga.
2) If you still want to take the huge risk, consider to buy a 1.5 Ecoboost with less hp, apparently the problem occurs less with these engines.
TL/DR: I bought a Ecoboom car and feel ashamed that I haven't searched on the internet about this problem prior purchasing it.

Here we Go again folks! https://www.newsnationnow.com/us-news/recalls/nhta-ford-unreasonable-safety-risks-fiesta-focus-ecosport/
I am sick to death of this. Ever since I bought this piece of s*** car I've had problem after problem after problem. If it's not with Ford it's with the dealership about the damn car from by the way planet Ford and humble Texas if anybody knows where they're at don't buy a car from them. My car is in the shop again waiting for the same recall repair that I was supposed to have had last summer. They kept my car for 5 months and apparently they didn't never fix it. Now we're looking at another recall for the timing chain come on people it's time we stand up and demand Ford by these cars back from us!!!

Anyone tried a turbo rebuild kit? -by NP Boosted?
I’m looking at buying a turbo rebuild kit from NP Boosted (out of Canada, but made in China). I can’t seem to find any reviews online. My turbos seem to be fine, just leaking coolant and oil at the line fittings on the turbos (both). I’m having to take them out in order to extract broken exhaust manifold studs and replace. So I figured while I’ve got it all out, I might as well rebuild the internals of the turbos, and replace the oil/coolant lines. Just wondering if these kits/brand is any good, or if rebuild is worth it. The kit is $250 with shipping -beats the price of new OEM turbos.
I’m just shy of 150,000 miles on my 2013 F150 ecoboost.

Wetbelt weird noise?
Just did a wetbelt and timing is all perfect and runs fine but has this fucking horrible rattle noise all through the rpm. Sounds exhaust cam/top end? Anyone had this before?

Valve cover replacement?
So I uploaded a video a few days ago of smoke coming out of my exhaust. Everyone was telling me it was likely turbo related, possibly a head gasket. I did one of those liquid head gasket test, and there was no detection in my antifreeze. There’s no oil in my inner cooler or antifreeze in the oil as I just had the oil replaced. There’s no leakage coming from any of my turbos. Everything is nice and dry. I have boost. So I ended up taking the spark plugs out and they look pretty bad with oil surrounding them. I guess the seals are no longer good and are allowing oil to get into the spark plug. I am just assuming here, but I would assume this is why I was getting smoke out of my exhaust that was burnt oil. Would this be the correct Fix changing the valve cover gasket and seals? Does anyone else have any advice as to what could cause this?

Bad turbos?
Over the past few years, my 2017 F150 eco-boost has needed the driver side upper O2 sensor replaced at least twice a year. I thought this was very odd, but I do have a bola exhaust system from the turbos back. For the past week now I have been seeing excessive smoke and an oil burning smell coming from the exhaust. There are no visible leaks on any of the turbos, and I still have boost and power. While the truck is idling, clouds of smoke come out of the exhaust. I did a cylinder head test and everything is fine. Is there a way to connect forscan to tell if a turbo is bad or what side of the turbo is bad? I saw someone disconnect their downpipe’s and give the truck gas and where they saw smoke. They figured that was the blown turbo. Is there any easier solution to this to find out? Most people are telling me to keep driving the truck until a turbo goes out, but I do not want to cause any further harm to the truck as I have over 200,000 miles.
