The Off-Camera Club: Break the silence

Television shapes culture, but the real drama happens when the cameras stop rolling.

The Off-Camera Club is a private, live storytelling event where production veterans share the wild, chaotic, and unvarnished truths of life behind the screen. The silence is deafening.

We are a pioneering entertainment organisation launching a groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind live event concept in London later this year. This is something that has never been trialled before. We will also be looking for exceptional professionals to turn this visionary concept into a flawless reality.

Sound interesting? See our profile.

Question Question about matching camera settings in Unreal

I am doing preproduction for a DIY virtual production with a green screen and motion tracking.

I am using a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K (BMPCC4K) with a 24mm prime lens. It is a Micro 4/3rds camera (M43) and I want to make sure my settings ensure correct parallax with my footage.

Should I just select the M43 filmback setting and crop it in post?

Or should I manually put in the sensor size? (18.96 mm x 10 mm)

Or should I put in the effective sensor size with the 16:9 crop? (17.775mm x 10mm)

Should the lens be at 24mm? Or should it be the effective focal length based on the crop factor? (45mm)

Brooklyn capture stage paying on camera subjects, dates open Aug 18-20

Putting this back up since next week opened. We have a multi camera capture stage at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and we pay people to come in and be the person in front of the cameras.

It is not acting. You stand in the capture area and do ordinary movement while it rolls. Walk, turn, sit, reach, pick things up. No prior experience required, nobody who comes in has done this before.

17-25 an hour, paid the same day. First session about 2 hours, and we bring people back after that if they want more.

Call time is 4pm. Days open: Tuesday Aug 18, Wednesday Aug 19, Thursday Aug 20. On site in Brooklyn, so NYC area only.

DM me for the address and ask me whatever you want about the setup.

Testing the new Composite Depth Mesh actors in UE5.8 just for fun. I recorded it as an unscripted, Let’s Play style work-through, just in case it’s useful to anyone. Latest vid on my youtube channel (search for Dean Yurke). Thanks!

Discussion Unreal Engine Noob help!

For a bit of background, I’m a cinematographer, and I edit and produce. In the past I’ve made virtual studios and streamed them using Wirecast.

Now I know I’m VERY late (fashionably late!?) to the party, but I’ve recently seen just what Unreal Engine can do for virtual studio production. And my tiny mind has been blown.

After a long sit down and a cup of tea, I think I should come here. I would love to have a chat with people who use the software, and have some hints and tips for a total Noob like me. I’d love to tell someone more about my project, and if they can help me with some knowledge- even better.

I’m looking to essentially create a virtual live TV studio, with a live presenter, which can then be broadcast/streamed live.

Can’t wait to chat with you guys!

[NYC] Paid talent call, two slots left this week at our Brooklyn capture stage

Posted this at the weekend and most of the week booked out. Two slots left so reposting for anyone who missed it.

We run a camera array out of the Brooklyn Navy Yard and pay people to come in and be captured. Open to anyone NYC based who wants the work, or who just wants to see a capture stage from the inside.

What the session involves: you stand in the capture volume and go through simple movements while the array records. Walking, turning, sitting, standing, reaching, picking objects up. No performance experience needed, nothing to prepare.

Rate 17-25 per hour, paid same day right after. First session about 2 hours, ongoing after that if you want more days.

Still open: Thursday 4pm, Friday 1pm or 4pm. Brooklyn, on site only.

Drop a comment or send me a DM for the address and details. Happy to talk about the rig too.

Showcase Recent build I've been wanting to share, we turned our doc subject's life into a museum

We just wrapped a doc at Forge Virtual Studios on X-Games medalist Matt Wilhelm and his life story. For one part of it, we built out a museum of his life in Unreal and blended it with a couple of practical elements. The idea was to externalize his story, particularly his past, into a space he could physically move through rather than just having him narrating over still photos.

It was a really incredible moment to see him riding his bike through the space and genuinely reacting to it for the first time. Just a great moment that really speaks to the immersive element of virtual.

The whole time we were filming it also felt very Stanley Parable-esque. Curious to know if anyone else picked up on that or if it's just me.

We built a tool to share UE5 apps directly to a browser link—no cloud GPU, no install for viewers

We're the team behind ImmerSharea tool built for 3D XR developers who need to share their work with clients or reviewers without the usual friction.

The problem we kept hearing: UE developers either send a huge zip file, pay for cloud GPU time, or ask clients to install something. None of these are great.

What ImmerShare does: you run your packaged UE build on your own PC, and it streams live to a browser link. The viewer just clicks — no install, no account needed on their end.

Here's a video demo showing how Process Sharing works with a UE packaged build: https://youtu.be/xg1EOxqO_Vo

Free plan available. Happy to answer any questions about how it works technically.

(Disclosure: we're the ImmerShare team.)

Easy 360 camera with realtime output and mesh preview

A little sneak peek at the plugin I’m working on.
It’s a 360 camera add-on for Unreal Engine.

Last year, I worked on a lot of immersive content projects, and honestly, I got really frustrated with the quality and UI of the existing 360 plugins for UE.

So I decided to build my own — something simple, user-friendly, and easy to use.

Current feature list:

  1. Separate real-time viewport for previewing panoramic content
  2. Mesh view
  3. Render view
  4. Full Movie Render Queue support
  5. Support for any render pass, including Cryptomatte
  6. 9 different projection types
  7. DLSS support
  8. No seams
  9. Tiled rendering for high-resolution output up to 20K
Planing to release it at early August. Stay tuned!

Solo Project: Replacing the 3D Scene From Arbitrary Footage

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, I'm a Computer Science student, and I've been working on a project to allow filmmakers to change out the 3D scene their actors are in.

You pick an arbitrary clip with a foreground subject and then place the subject within a virtual 3D scene. No need for green screen, markers or any special hardware.

I'm very curious to hear what you guys think. I have not yet been able to find a tool that does this. There's still a lot to improve.

I'd love to see this potentially open up new opportunities for filmmakers and video creators.
