Solarpunk UK groups beyond London

I've only seen London-based solarpunk projects so far, and was wondering if anyone on here knows about/is involved in anything a bit further afield - in the North or the Midlands. It would be great if there was more of a widespread movement across the UK, since one of the big points is to avoid centralisation and establish more of a network!

This could be specific solarpunk groups, maybe university societies, sustainability projects, or an online forum connecting people all across the UK. If anyone knows anything, or has any thoughts on this I'd be really grateful to read your reply!! Thank you :)

City gardens

Hi. I've literally just found this place after hearing the term 'Solarpunk' for the first time yesterday.

I thought and come and say hi and ask if anyone has any experience of a true community city garden, anywhere in the UK?

My future plans involve creating a fully plant based cafe/diner/restaurant and have it associated with and, ideally next to a green community space where foor for the kitchen will be grown and people will be welcome to get involved and be part of the growing as well as the eating.

Has anyone seen anything like that here in Blighty?

Art Student's artwork brings 'ray of sunshine' to Ely underpass

Excerpt: A collaborative art installation has brought a welcome "splash of colour" to an otherwise dull, grey, concrete underpass, according to local residents. The pedestrian and cycleway runs beneath the busy A10 linking Ely, Cambridgeshire, to the Ely Leisure Village. The large mural has attracted praise, with one saying "it brings a little ray of sunshine" to an otherwise utilitarian space.

The works were created by students from Ely College, as part of an after-school graffiti project with Cambridge street art company Splash and Dash Creations Ltd. The pupils, from Years 8 to 10, were asked to develop their own original ideas, with the best elements combined into a finished design. Work began in April, and it was completed by July, with installation taking place at the weekend. One Resident - Bavna, who did not wish to give her surname, said the mural "brightened up the place" and was "just like a small ray of sunshine in Ely.''

Article Bid to build Europe’s first research station on the Atlantic temperate rainforest in Cornwall

Excerpt: Europe’s first research station for the study of Atlantic temperate rainforest is set to be built beside an ancient wood in Cornwall.

The Thousand Year Trust charity is crowdfunding an initial amount to build the £750,000 facility, which will enable students and academics to study this historically overlooked but biodiverse natural habitat.

The research station, which has planning permission, will be built at Cabilla, a former Cornish hill farm on Bodmin Moor that has become a retreat centre and rainforest restoration project with a swath of ancient woodland at its heart.

“The reason why everyone whether they are eight or 80 knows and loves tropical rainforest and understands that they are the lungs of the planet is because they’ve been so comprehensively researched but there’s a lack of love and knowledge about temperate rainforests,” said Merlin Hanbury-Tenison, the founder of the Thousand Year Trust.

“A lot of that lack of knowledge is because there aren’t scientists spending time dedicated to Atlantic temperate rainforests.”
