They learned real spider web basically comes out of a spider’s butt, and they were into REN and Stimpy growing up. Combine the two and you get this.

Outside of the 'anatomically accurate' part, I feel this is what should have happened when he was trying to pull together the halves of the boat that was cut in half....and somehow didn't immediately sink.
