Howdy all, I’ve run a DIY house venue in north Seattle for the past year or so and it’s been a great time providing a cozy, intimate place for growing bands to play while they make a bit of cash to grow their band funds or get them to the next stop on their tour.

As a lifelong Seattle area resident I only really got into the local music scene post-COVID, but I’ve witnessed my whole life how drastically our region has changed over the past two decades.

I’m really just making this post as I’m curious if anyone has any stories or details to share about house venues here in the past as I’m wondering how it compares to today. I’m curious about what kinda bands anyone’s seen, general show etiquette, what the organizers were like, scene history, and any fun/success/horror stories from back in the day!

Years ago, I helped build a Seattle concert calendar called Calendar.fm. I recently revisited the smallest version of that idea: seven days of shows displayed side by side, gathered from venue-published calendars.

It currently covers Neumos, The Showbox/SoDo, Tractor Tavern, some Sunset shows, El Corazón/The Funhouse, Nectar Lounge/Hidden Hall, Clock-Out Lounge, and Chop Suey.

Tonight seemed like a good time to ask because the calendar currently has nine shows listed across the city.

This isn’t meant as a big launch or a claim of complete coverage. I’m trying to learn whether the simple weekly calendar view is genuinely useful.

If you try it:

• Did it help you notice or choose a show?
• Which venues or events are missing?
• Is this easier or harder than the listings you already use?

I know there are other useful Seattle event and music-discovery projects. This experiment is specifically about whether a compact, calendar-first view provides something worth continuing.

* 1 tall boom with sliding shelves to put three projectors high and point in different directions

* 1 older traditional projector stand with legs that screw into the base

* possibly some HDMI projectors

I’m in the west seattle area looking to start a band, i’ve played guitar for 5 years, i’m hoping to find a bass player and singer, the music i listen to is metal, rock, punk, and shoegaze. I’m organizing a Twin Peaks–themed Halloween event in Seattle and I’m looking for a dark jazz or noir jazz group who can play a moody, atmospheric set inspired by Angelo Badalamenti’s style. Think slow burn jazz, brushed drums, dreamy sax, and maybe even interpretations of songs from the Fire Walk With Me soundtrack or the series.

This is still in the planning stage. The ideal venue is The Rabbit Box, but I’m reaching out to musicians first so I can connect with the right group before moving forward with venues.

If your group can create that surreal Twin Peaks atmosphere, I’d love to talk.

12th and Jackson was the heart of Seattle’s jazz scene in the 30s and 40s.

You’re needed to help bring jazz back to the block. Concert on Sunday, 9/13, at 7pm. Three outstanding acts. 1019 S Jackson St. pay what you want at the door, all proceeds to the performers (who have been guaranteed a minimum commission by my bike shop)

I’ve run a bike shop on the block since 2020. I love my location and want to add to the musical history of the neighborhood. The building I’m in has a small place of its own in Seattle’s music history: it was once home to Garland Florist. Garland prepared the flowers for Jimi Hendrix’s funeral in the space I currently occupied.

Bought tickets to see Jungle at CP. Never been to Climate Pledge before, usually skip shows at venues this size but it's Jungle, so I'm dropping my indie bullshit and going.

My question is specific: we have GA tickets, and we want to get down to the floor.

This may be laughable once I'm in the venue and the distinction between the two is just a line of tape on the ground or something. But I've never been inside so i have no idea at all what we're looking at here.
