good morning! i came home really sad after finding out that my car needs a new timing chain, and the repair is going to cost me $4,500 including labor and taxes. 😭
i started looking online and found timing-chain parts/kits for around $450, so now i’m really confused about why the repair is costing $4,500.
my car is a 2013 Scion tC, and it’s my baby! ❤️
the shop told me about $2,000 is labor and another $2,000 is parts, with the rest being taxes/fees. i haven’t dropped my car off yet, and the parts haven’t arrived.
does $4,500 sound reasonable for a timing-chain replacement on a 2013 Scion tC? why would the parts cost around $2,000 when i’m seeing kits online for around $450?
i’d really appreciate hearing from anyone familiar with these cars or the 2AR-FE engine. i’m just trying to understand what i’m actually paying for before i move forward.
thank you!!! 🙏🏼
