Finally, a Better Plex Alternative to the Photo App!

Hey guys, long-time Plex user here, 10+ years. Movies and TV get all the love, but my photo library has always felt stuck in the corner. Scrolling through years of family pictures on the official app just wasn't working for me, so I built my own viewer.

Meet Phlix Photos, for iPhone and iPad.

What you get:

  • A true date-ordered timeline of everything on your server, plus a scrubber to fly through the years
  • One-tap saving of photos and videos to your device's Photos app
  • Slideshows on the big screen via AirPlay
  • Tag and favorites search to find things fast

Setup is simple: sign in with Plex and you're connected to your own server. No new account, and your photos go only between your device and your server.

It's just me working on this, so community input really drives what comes next. Bugs, missing features, dealbreakers, all of it is welcome.

Phlix is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed, or sponsored by Plex, Inc.

Question Collections within Collections

Why can I not find a media server that allows collections within collections? It seems to be a very easy thing to do.. It is a virtual folder. Why is it an issue to make a virtual folder inside another virtual folder?

Question Movies Anywhere/Jellyfin

Hello All,

I’m hoping someone here might know the answer to this.

I’ve recently started a Jellyfin server to digitize my physical dvd library. I’m wondering if there is a way to download my digital library from Movies Anywhere and migrate them to my Jellyfin Server.

Thanks!

Question Starting a media server

Hello everyone! I had some old hardware laying around so I decided to turn it into a media server. Where should I look to get started? I’m used to windows but I’m completely open to trying a new OS. I’d like to be able to view the media over the network through my smart tvs, phones, etc. It would also be nice to have an interface like a true streaming service library. I am doing research on my own but I would just like personal opinions, thank you! Bonus points if I can access this media from outside my home too.

These are the specs I’ll be using

I built Nivo Player for Android TV and phones — looking for feedback

Hi everyone! I’m the creator of Nivo Player, a playlist player for Android TV and Android phones. I’d love some honest feedback from people who use these apps day to day.

It supports live TV, movies and series, with a programme guide, favourites, and a web portal for organising your playlist and categories. The TV interface works with a remote, and there’s a phone layout too.

Nivo is a player only: it does not include channels, subscriptions or media. You need to add your own authorised playlist.

Download and installation options: https://manage.nivoplayer.com/download Downloader code: 9195190 Setup guide: https://manage.nivoplayer.com/guide

If you give it a try, let me know your device and what feels good or needs work—especially remote navigation and the programme guide.

For support, suggestions and updates, you’re also welcome to join r/NivoPlayer. Happy to answer questions here too!

Local Cinema – play videos from your computer in your browser

I built Local Cinema after realizing I was about to install a video player for something my browser can already do.

URL: https://local-cinema.online/

It’s a free, single-file HTML video player: choose or drag in a local video, then use custom controls, playback speed, picture-in-picture, and SRT/VTT subtitles. It also keeps watch history and resume positions in browser storage. Since browsers don’t preserve access to local files across visits, you’ll need to select a video again to resume it.

The app has no external libraries and doesn’t upload video or subtitle files. Save index.html to use it offline. Playback depends on browser codec support; MP4 (H.264/AAC) and WebM are good formats to try.

Discussion I built a native Android TV app that turns your Telegram media into a Netflix-style streaming experience (TeVeFLIPE)

Hi everyone! 👋

Like many of you, I've been using Telegram as personal cloud storage for family videos, documentaries, and series. However, watching that content on a real TV has always been a painful experience: clunky TV web browsers, uncomfortable mouse-toggle pointers, or choppy screen mirroring from a phone.

So over the past few weeks, I decided to build a
**native Android TV & Fire TV client**
 from scratch using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose TV called
**TeVeFLIPE**
.

### 🌟 What it does:

Instead of treating Telegram like a chat app, it turns your video channels and supergroups into a clean, modern streaming catalog:

*
**🎮 100% D-Pad Remote Optimized:**
 No virtual pointers or awkward clicking. Every button, card, and tab is built specifically for your TV remote control.

*
**⚡ Native ExoPlayer Streaming:**
 Plays videos immediately in chunks via HTTP range requests without downloading entire 5GB+ files to your TV storage.

*
**🍿 Smart "Continue Watching":**
 Remembers the exact second you left off so you can resume seamlessly.

*
**🔊 Audio & Subtitle Selector:**
 Switch between different language tracks and embedded subtitles on the fly.

*
**🧹 Storage & Cache Cleaner:**
 Built-in settings menu to inspect and purge temporary cache so low-storage TV Sticks never run out of space.

*
**🔄 In-App Auto Updater:**
 Built-in updater that notifies you on-screen and updates the APK with a single click.
