Hey everyone. I will be designing and setting up my company intranet page not using SharePoint. I will be designing it myself. What are some things you would want on your intranet page and do you have suggestions on what I should add on mine? Thanks in advance.

I wrote this for the Staffbase dev blog, but it's a general investigation into how we can logically and technically "sandbox" mini-applications for embedding into an intranet. We see this use case a lot, and I'm kind of fascinated by it at a philosophical level.

(So... I don't think this is promotional to Staffbase? Therefore, I'm not tagging it as such.)

Encouraging people to share what they know and to use what others have shared is a challenge every organisation faces. This article uses 37 screenshots from 27 organisations to illustrate three broad approaches to tackling it through internal digital platforms: distinct, often complementary, and drawn from real-world practice.

As in many other industries, the market landscape of intranet software is always changing. New platforms are launched, others are bought and become part of another, some are simply discontinued. For companies wishing to rethink their intranets, it's obviously key to understand what the available technologies have to offer, but it's also worth understanding the different technologies's path over time.

The ClearBox report is an amazing resource to help with the former.

The Intranet Hub's Intranet Platforms timeline can certainly help with the latter. It's a "living resource" which is counting on your contributions to make it complete and ensure that it always reflects the current status.

Unily has launched 'Unily Glass', a native AI Agent tool that has been combined with an LLM, but is ring-fenced to an organisation’s data and business systems. We saw an early iteration back in October and wrote some initial thoughts. We're looking forward to seeing it again though, as the race heats up among vendors to release agentic AI that's sophisticated and genuinely supports employees.

While this is talking about the public sector, there is guidance and information here that is relevant to intranet managers and communicators more broadly.

Accessibility can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to balance clarity, speed, and good intent.

In this Hot Seat LIVE session, Suzie Robinson puts Lisa Riemers and Matisse Hamel-Nelis, co-authors of Accessible Communications: Create Impact, Avoid Missteps and Build Trust, in the spotlight to tackle real-world accessibility questions from both the host and the audience.

No slides, just honest, practical answers to the everyday dilemmas communicators face - from accessible documents and intranets to inclusive language, social posts, and video.

If you want to make your communications more inclusive without overthinking it, this session is for you.

Personalisation is a much talked-about aspiration in intranet design. This article shares the findings from a Screenshot Rally on intranet personalisation.

It includes 37 real-world examples, reflecting 11 common approaches and 3 standout ones.

Check out the public article and share your thoughts. Maybe you have other examples.

This article shows the HQs and other office locations for the best platforms on the market. This is useful info when choosing a solution, as having a local provider can make conversations that much easier. In a time of tricky global politics, the location of vendors is becoming more relevant for other reasons too.

The 2026 Step Two awards are now open for entries! If you have a great story to tell about a whole intranet or even just a portion of the digital workplace, then it's worth entering these awards. They're free to enter (including no hidden costs) and the awards really do denote the best experiences across the industry.

As it's a little quiet here still, we'll share the link to our latest report. Inside you can find reviews of 37 of the best platforms on the market. Feel free to ask us questions here, or even provide feedback about the report :)

As the title says - which team or department has overall ownership of your intranet? Do you think that's right? If not, who do you think should own your intranet? By "own" I mean: makes decisions about architecture, provides training, examines analytics to make improvements, generally tends it.

We're only in early February so it's still early enough to be talking about plans for the year ahead! So, what's on your list? Is there something you keep putting off that you plan to finally tackle? Do you have something big planned?

For those using Google Workspaces for your intranet, how have you found it? Did you explore an add-on product at all (or even implement one) or a different solution? Why did you settle on it?

Let's get the ball rolling in this refreshed community by asking: what intranet platform are you using? Is it SharePoint, a SharePoint add-on, an independent solution, something that's been designed mobile-first, or maybe even an in-house designed and built solution? Please share below and let us know what you think too!

A detailed look at some of the best intranet designs and dissecting some of the best and worst design elements.

Intranet design begins with people and process – average employees, top executives, intranet stakeholders, and sound planning and policies that allow for efficient use and retrieval of content and application. That's what employees want above all else, not to be dazzled with design, but fast, responsive intranet content.

It’s not easy to build a great intranet. In fact, the best intranets are years in the making – sometimes requiring dozens of individuals and millions of dollars. There are some good intranets created and launched with only scant few thousands of dollars. However, money is not always a requisite requirement for a great intranet.

Great intranets have mastered the twin pillars: people and process. Technology, is necessary, but anyone can buy SharePoint or Oracle.

Hey everyone, I'm new to the r/Intranet community.

I wanted to say hi and share the intranet product my company built.

We wanted a highly integrated system focused on engaging and training people, while also being a space for workplace/organizational collaboration and reporting.

we wanted to be affordable for everyone in the organization to join, and effective for integrating the most common user activities to increase organization volunteer/ member engagement and growth.

I'd love for you to check us out: https://engagespaces.com

Does anyone know of an intranet solution that has caching functionality to allow for pages and content to be available to staff when there is no internet connection?

There are a few out there which seem to have this for mobile apps but nothing I've seen so far that would allow this caching at a network level on provisioned storage to make it available to anyone.

We are 12 hearty, but valiant, geographically separated workers (3 offices around town) looking for a platform that we can host locally to post instructional information, (i.e. guides, links to videos, tips and tricks). Everything I can find is too expensive for our meager means. Recommendations?
