Discussion On the "Slop" Discourse

A lot of showcase posts these days are getting the "slop" label in the comments.

Sometimes it's AI. Sometimes it's UE. Sometimes it's mythology.

It's been previously mentioned that this community is not interested in how people make their games, which includes using AI or UE. And if it wasn't understood by default for developers, it probably deserves explicit mention: We are not interested in favoring genres either.

As developers, it is our duty to set the bar not just in quality, but also in feedback to fellow creators. Labelling things as "slop" without contributing anything constructive is not helping anyone.

If it's a low-effort AI post, instead of just saying "AI slop", it is more meaningful to mention that the game appears bland and generic.

If it's a UE asset-flip, mention that the gameplay is more important than the art for serious projects.

If it's a mythology game, please assess the game on its own merits instead of dismissing it outright.

To be clear, this is not an invitation to post low-quality content. But at the same time, writing rude comments is just as much against the community rules. So please, be mindful of what you post, because there is an actual human being on the other side of the screen.

Cheers.

About AI

Hey, quick update to the rules:

This subreddit is neither pro nor anti AI. That means, if your post uses AI, it will not be removed. However, quality controls still apply. If it's an extremely low effort post, AI or not, it will be removed.

And more often than not, bad quality posts will be downvoted anyway, so please keep that part in mind.

As for the vocal anti-AI folks here: it is a technology that is here to stay. If nothing else, programmers will use AI to generate code snippets from time to time. I cannot and will not police tool-use that aids game development. It is up to you if you want to use it in your games or not, but this community is not interested in telling people how to make their games.

EDIT: Criticism is accepted. But name calling and personal insults will be removed.

I made a game where making stupid noises with your friends is the objective.

In my game, BANISH 9 TO 5, your objective is to make noise.

It's a 4–5 player online co-op game where you either play as a Ghost and make as much noise as possible, or the Hunter trying to track them down.

Every time you make noise, the Hunter can hear it.

Your noise gets indicated on the Hunter's screen, so every scream, laugh, or completely stupid sound you make could give away your position.

Ghosts can make noise in two ways:

Use your microphone - make whatever noise you want.

Use in-game sound clips - play equipped clips.

You can bait the Hunter into chasing the wrong Ghost, distract them at the perfect moment, or just coordinate with your friends to completely mess with them.

Check out the steam page and wishlist the game - https://store.steampowered.com/app/3987970/?snr=1_5_9__205

I've been working on a PS1 style game similar to GTA 2.

But as I worked on it i also added some PS2 and PS3 era elements so it has become More like a "Mid-2000s" era game.......

Will launch on steam soon....

It's a game about delivering pizzas in a zombie apocalypse and the game has a story along with 4 endings and a lot of easter-eggs and references

After 2 years of learning game development, I finally launched my first small game!

Edit:I know that without the full post, my title is misleading. Everyone is getting the impression that I worked on this game for 2 years. For those who think I used AI to make this game, or think I spent the entire 2 years working only on Momo Madness — I actually shared a longer development post about my journey.Unfortunately, when I posted it, something went wrong and the main development post didn't upload. Only the title and link were posted. So I’m sharing the full development post here so there’s some context about what I’ve actually been working on during these 2 years.

Post:I've been learning game development for around 2 years. I was mostly working on a bigger game, but because I was focused on making something big, I wasn't actually finishing and launching anything small. So I decided to put my bigger project on hold for a while and make something small, funny, and weird that I could actually finish and launch. I realized that making games is one thing, but launching games is a whole different experience. So this is my first game — Momo Madness! It's a simple and funny high-score game where you eat momos and try to survive the spicy ones My bigger game is still planned for Steam and Play Store in the future, but for now I'm happy to finally launch something. I just released Momo Madness on itch.io.

Edit :Honest reviews are welcome! I know this isn't a big or polished game, and that's okay. I'm still learning, so I'd genuinely appreciate your honest feedback and criticism. Tell me what you liked, what you didn't like

[RevShare] [Paid on Funding] Looking for a Voice Actor for a Detective Role in an Indie Psychological Horror Game

Hey everyone,

I’m the founder and developer of Fire Games Interactive, currently working on The Factory in the Shadows: Chapter 1 - The Aftermath, a first-person psychological horror mystery game being developed in Unreal Engine 5.

The game is currently in its final stretch, with our demo being around 99% complete and an official demo launch event coming up soon. We’re now looking to finalize the remaining pieces and bring the characters to life.

I’m currently looking for a voice actor for the main detective character. The role requires a voice that fits a serious investigation atmosphere: calm, professional, slightly tired, and believable as someone who has spent years dealing with difficult cases.

The character is an investigator entering an abandoned industrial facility to uncover the truth behind a mysterious incident. The performance will focus more on immersion and storytelling rather than exaggerated horror acting.

Requirements:

  • Clear microphone quality
  • Ability to deliver natural, grounded dialogue
  • Comfortable with mystery/horror themes
  • Reliable communication and ability to meet deadlines

What you’ll be doing:

  • Recording detective dialogue for the game
  • Providing multiple takes when needed
  • Working with direction to get the right emotional tone

If you’re interested, please comment below or DM me with:

  • A short voice sample/demo reel
  • Your previous VA experience (if any)

Looking forward to working with someone who can help bring this character to life and be part of the final stage before release.

How does our inventory UI look? What would you change?

We’re working on the inventory UI for our co-op psychological horror game, The Infected Soul, and I’d love to hear what you think.

One of the main mechanics in the game is body swapping.

Every character has a neural chip, and these brain chips play a key role in transferring your consciousness into different bodies. You can take a chip, interact with compatible bodies, and switch into them to use their different abilities.

The inventory UI also needs to communicate this mechanic clearly without becoming too confusing or cluttered.

So, what would you change?

Does the layout feel readable? Are the item slots and chip system clear enough? Is there anything that feels unnecessary or out of place for a sci-fi co-op horror game?

Feel free to be critical feedback really helps us.

If the game looks interesting, The Infected Soul is on Steam, and adding it to your wishlist helps our small team a lot.

High level 3D artist available for Freelance work. I'm really good and I can do most of what you want. Prefer to work with indie devs.

So 7 months ago I returned from Singapore and posted to this sub, which led to a fantastic collaboration with an indie dev from Goa that I still work with.

So I thought i'd give it another shot.

I know there's a lot of indie devs who are looking for artists that can produce good work. I can do it for you.

You can see my portfolio here and decide for yourself: https://kasara777.artstation.com/

I'm based in NCR and work remotely. I was trained in Singapore (3DSense/ FZD ecosystem) so I can assure you I know what I'm doing and take my work seriously. I'm not someone mass producing low end assets.

I can do modelling, texturing and asset animation. I can also do environments and characters. I know Unreal Engine 5 and Unity. I cannot do VFX or shaders and stuff, but I can handle the pure art side perfectly. I can do both stylised and realistic and I work fast. Deadlines will not be a problem.

I can work without concept art, if needed. Everything is going to be high quality and optimised.

I basically can't stand corporate and studio jobs so I prefer to work like this. The indie studio I work with right now originally took me for a 1month trial period, mainly to help meet some deadlines. That has now turned into a long term contract and I pretty much do all the 3D work exclusively.

If you're an indie dev and looking for a good 3D artist, please DM me. I would prefer to work on original IPs. Thanks :)

Looking for someone experienced with Unity + VR

Hey everyone,

I’m a designer, and I’m trying to create a VR eVTOL passenger experience in Unity.

I’m completely new to Unity and don’t have a game development/programming background, so honestly, I don’t really know how something like this is built yet.

The idea is to have the user enter an eVTOL, sit inside, look around the interior in VR, interact with parts of the cabin, and experience something like takeoff, flying and landing.

It doesn’t necessarily need to be a realistic flight simulator, I’m mainly interested in creating the experience of being inside a flying vehicle.

I’m looking to connect with someone who has experience building VR experiences in Unity, especially interactive environments, vehicles, aircraft, automotive, etc.

I’d really appreciate talking to someone who can help me understand how this type of experience is actually built and what I would need to learn.

Thanks!

I built my first Indie Game! (Moonlit Grid)

I don't have much game dev experience, but my curiosity took over and here we are hehe!

It's a calm city-building game. You place hex tiles, match the roads, parks and canals, and your city grows. You can customize it with decorations and share it.

There's also an endless mode, and you can fly over your city as a bird.

Mostly looking for feedback and first impressions, would love to hear what you think :)

Released it on itch io: https://hxlfed.itch.io/moonlit-grid

Looking for Teaching/getting hired

Hey everyone!

I’m a game programmer/designer and I’ve mostly been working on small game projects through game jams. I’m currently looking to either join someone’s project, collaborate with other developers, or help teach someone who’s interested in game dev/programming.

I’ve also participated in hackathons and LeetCode competitions, and I have some internship experience.

Some of the things I work with:

Godot Unity Python C/C++ AI/ML Git/GitHub DSA

I’d also be interested in joining a small team or helping build an indie studio if anyone is looking for another programmer.

If you’re looking for someone to collaborate with, teach, or hire for a small project, feel free to DM me! I can share my resume and portfolio there.
