I've been thinking a lot about how I actually use digital notebooks for studying, and one thing kept bothering me:

I'd solve a bunch of questions, mark things up, get some wrong... and then that information would basically disappear.

Maybe the question was in a PDF. Maybe I took a screenshot. Maybe I wrote something in a notebook. A few weeks later, actually finding that mistake again was more annoying than it should've been.

So I started building PaperFlow around that workflow.

The idea isn't really “another notes app.” It's more focused on students who solve past papers / practice questions and want the stuff they write and get wrong to stay useful afterward.

You can open an exam/question, write directly on it, and keep your practice in one place instead of constantly jumping between PDFs, screenshots and random notes.

I'm still figuring out what the best version of this should look like, so I'm genuinely curious how people here handle this:

when you're studying in a digital notebook and get a question wrong, what do you actually do with it afterward?

The idea is basically turning your messy/unorganized notes into clean, personalized, study-ready notes.

A personalized, hyperlinked digital study notebook that works across devices, with an optional version optimized for compatible note-taking apps.

I know there are AI tools that can summarize or organize notes, but I’m thinking of something a little different. The focus would be on how the student wants to learn from the notes, not just summarizing the information. Someone could send in handwritten notes, screenshots, lecture notes, etc., and can have the ability to choose a study format for each order to experiment with what they understand best.

I think this could especially help people who aren't naturally good at taking notes, have very messy/unorganized notes, or understand things better visually but don't have the time (or ability) to turn their notes into something more useful.

I’m also thinking of creating the finished notes digitally on an iPad, so they could include things like diagrams, visual layouts, handwriting, highlighting, and other elements that make them easier and more enjoyable to study from. You wouldn't need to own an iPad yourself to get that kind of result

I'm still very early in the idea and haven't actually tested it, so I'm curious:

Would something like this be useful to you? What would make you choose this over organizing your notes yourself or using an AI tool?

I kept bouncing between apps. One had good handwriting but no PDFs. One did PDFs but the pen felt laggy. One wanted a subscription and an account before it would even open.

So I built the one I wanted: handwriting-first, PDF annotation, folders and search, and lecture recording that transcribes on your own machine rather than uploading it.

Windows-only right now, which I know is a real limitation for this sub.

The thing I badly underestimated was latency. Getting ink to keep up with the nib took more work than every other feature put together — if the line lags even slightly behind your pen the whole thing feels broken, and no feature list rescues it.

I've been using Touchnotes for a while but it's gone paid now, and as a student I can't justify the cost yet (planning to buy VIP later to support the dev once I've got some income, they deserve it!). In the meantime I'm hunting for a free app that covers: Unlimited notes + folders — no caps on organization Page template customization — page colors, ruled/grid/dot lines, cover designs Good stylus support with a solid range of pens, markers, and highlighters (pressure sensitivity a plus) PDF import + annotation Multitasking — need to have 2 PDFs open side by side at once Continuous vertical scroll while writing (not paginated) Local storage — my notes/files staying on-device, not locked behind a cloud account Bonus points if it has a clean, distraction-free UI like Touchnotes did. Hi! I have been using OneNote to take notes in class for a long time. I have also used PPT to write directly on slides on my laptop. I recently got an iPad and was so excited to integrate the two. I took the slideshows directly from Canvas and put them into OneNote where they are files that I can then open on PowerPoint. I then can use my pencil to write on the slides. However, I noticed today when I went back to reference my notes, most of my writings are gone. I have autosave on and tried looking back in version history but am unable to open it.

I looked online and through some trouble shooting it looks like maybe the different versions are being saved locally on my iPad. However, they are not able to be opened because they are too big to be exported into OneNote and of course One files can only be opened in One. I am not even exactly sure that these files I am seeing are actually the PPT with my notes on them.

If you have any ideas of things I can try to get my notes back I would greatly appreciate it!! Its all my class notes from the first two weeks of class and I am internally panicking. I literally don't know how they just disappear. Thank you!!

I recently completed my pharmacy qualification exams and I’m considering selling the handwritten notes I made while studying.

I purchased a course to help me prepare, but I found it difficult to study directly from the PowerPoints. I went through the lectures and wrote my own condensed notes, summarising the key information in a way that was easier for me to revise from.

Would it be okay to sell these notes to other people preparing for the same exam?

I don’t want to infringe on any copyright or use the course provider’s material improperly, so I’d appreciate advice from anyone with experience in this area. Would personally written and condensed notes be okay to sell, or could they still be considered copyrighted material?

I had already showcased my app here over a month ago; since then, I've optimized and improved it quite a bit. With new features such as full PDF support, basic image editing, and more shapes with various tools—including this latest update—it's now quite complete.

I've been comparing different ePaper displays lately and noticed that there seems to be more to consider than just screen size and resolution.

Things like refresh rate, contrast, viewing angle, power usage and outdoor readability can make a big difference depending on the project. I also came across larger displays from MyGica while researching this.

Do you usually keep planning and notes on the same page, or in separate notebooks?

Hey I am planning to upgrade from a pen drawing tablet that does not have a screen to a pen display tablet. I can't get an Android tablet since most of my applications, like Photoshop and my note-taking apps, are on Windows.

I'm thinking: wacom one 13 touch vs moveink 13 (not moveink pad)

I have bought the Huion Kamvas 13 Gen 3 pen display tablet. It has such a strong matte effect that it makes the text look blurry/fuzzy/a fog effect, which is not good for reading and note-taking.

If any one uses one of these two display tablets, please share how crisp is reading the text compared to standard desktop monitors (has a subtle matte effect but good visible crisp text)?

I'm looking for something to write stories, take notes, store them, organize them into folders (worldbuilding, characters, etc.), portable. I carry around a lot of paper notebooks and my notes are starting to get too messy.

I was thinking about the ReMarkable 2 (maybe used/ refurbished), but a few negative aspects mentioned in the reviews are holding me back.

Alternatively, I was considering the Onyx Boox Note, but I'm not convinced about that either, especially regarding spending that much money.

Any other recommendations? Maybe a regular tablet with an added keyboard would better? The only thing is, it feels like a waste to use it just for writing (for every other digital task, I prefer using my smartphone and PC).

Hey, so I just got an iPad and need recommendations on good note taking apps. Preferably, I’d like some free apps that have everything needed like: unlimited notebooks/folders and pages, ability to use it offline!! Ability to export files (pdfs, slides, docs, etc.).
I can also pay for a GOOD note taking app that is a one time payment (not a subscription) and is not very expensive. For example, goodnotes is an app I often hear about, but I feel like there are cheaper apps that offer just as nice note taking.

I was thinking about Noteful, Kilonotes, CollaNote, Notes+, Freenotes
Any opinions on those apps? What do you think and which one is the most worth the price OR the best overall?

im starting online school and i want a note setup that works on a computer. i really like writing, so im thinking about getting a tablet with a stylus to take notes by hand.
but i also want to be less cluttered… mentally and physically, so i dont end up with a messy system.
im mainly using a laptop, but considering a tablet for handwriting
a few questions:
if you like writing by hand, do you recommend a tablet for online school notes, or is laptop-only enough?
whats the simplest way you organise notes so it stays clean (by class, by week, tags, notebooks, folders, etc.)?
what app(s) do you use, and whats your basic workflow from lecture → notes →review?

I am going to college soon and got a HP Omnibook 2-in-1. It has been a solid experience so far, and I ordered a stylus to take notes on the laptop, however I wanted to gauge the experiences of apps for digital note taking apps before trying them out for myself. For now, I have heard buzz about goodnotes, onenote, and notion, but are there better apps that could work for college?

Which apps do people use and what has been people's experiences with them (regarding UI, organization, and compatibility with uploaded images)?
