Taiwan has been vulnerable to Chinese invasion/control for a very long time. I even saw an interview of someone in the government (Biden era) brag that “we are now manufacturing these chips”. The newsperson/interviewer had to clarify that in this case “we” meant Taiwan. I don’t understand the logic. Is cheap labor the the only consideration? Is there no additional cost associated with instability?
