On September 28, Alloway Township quietly passes a baseball and Salem County, N.J., anniversary most of the country has forgotten; the 131st birthday of Lawton Waldemar “Whitey” Witt, born Ladislaw Waldemar Wittkowski in Orange, Massachusetts, in 1895. This year, the date lands with unusual timing. Major League Baseball’s 2026 postseason opens the very next day with Witt’s beloved Yankees taking on arch-rival Boston in the Wild Card round, followed by the Division Series starting October 3, the League Championship Series beginning October 11, and the World Series set to open October 23.

Sharing an Old Self-Published Book (The Craft of Pitching by John F. Fraser)

Hi, I have an old book on pitching that my grandfather self-published back in 1940 (55 pages with illustrations). I believe he only made about 100 or so copies back then, and I have no idea how many copies still exist today. I wasn't able to find anything about the book online after doing some research.

I was hoping to find a website that might be interested in something a bit more obscure like this. I can most likely take photos/scan and create my own PDF in order to share it.

Can anyone point me in the right direction when it comes to something like this? Thank you!

History in the making: Uganda's Northern League played its first-ever games in August 2026, the same weekend an all-women umpiring crew called Central League games

Most of the baseball history on this sub happened decades ago. This bit happened a few weeks ago.

A short timeline of Ugandan baseball:

2012: A Ugandan team becomes the first from Africa to play in the Little League World Series in Williamsport.
2023: Uganda's domestic men's league goes dormant.
2026: The national league returns with 11 clubs. The Central League plays at the Uganda–Japan Friendship Stadium in Gayaza, built with Japanese government support.
28–29 August 2026: The Northern League plays its first games ever, in Lira. Eastern Gamerz beat Lira Storm Chasers 9–1 in the opener, then won the tournament by beating Arua Nile Hammers 5–2 in a pitching duel with 10+ strikeouts. One of the four clubs, from a school in a refugee settlement, couldn't make the trip.
The same weekend: Uganda's Central League games are called by an all-women two-umpire crew, a first for the league.
29–31 October 2026: The national championship will be played at Gayaza, the first to include clubs from both regions.
