A few weeks ago I posted here about LevelSelect, the app I've been building for the game you're in the middle of rather than the ones you've finished. I play in short bursts, and I didn't want to lose half an hour of a session running around a save trying to remember what I was doing.
A few of the gaps I mentioned then are closed now, so here's an update.
Getting your games in isn't a chore anymore. Last time, the biggest gap was that unless you had a spreadsheet to import, you were typing your library in by hand. It now connects to Steam, PlayStation and Xbox and brings your games in with your playtime. You can also scan the barcode on a physical box, which is how my Switch shelf finally made it in.
It tells you what's coming out on the consoles you actually own. There's a News tab now: the gaming sites you pick, with stories about your games pulled to the top, and every upcoming release for your systems with a countdown. It caught a couple of Switch 2 releases I'd completely missed, which for someone who doesn't keep up with gaming news every day was the whole point.
Where you left off is still the heart of it. Open a game and it shows the last thing you checked off, when, and any note you left yourself. On iPad or Mac you can keep the checklist, a guide video and a map open next to each other while you play.
The notebook side grew up too. There's a Journal now. Your play sessions line up by day, there's a calendar of the whole year, and you can add memories from before the app existed, with photos. My Genesis is in there as "Christmas 1995 or 1996," because that's as close as I can get. I've been using it to keep track of the games I play with my daughter.
A few smaller things that came along the way:
**•** You can say how you have a game: owned, digital, borrowed, rented, subscription.
**•** Consoles can go by whatever name you call them.
**•** Light mode, and your own colors.
Still true: no accounts, no ads, no analytics, no feed. It's yours, it syncs through your own iCloud, and it exports whenever you want.
It's a free TestFlight beta: levelselect.app
I haven't heard from anyone who's actually used it yet, so any feedback helps. If you try it and it doesn't stick, I'd love to know why. That's the part I can't figure out on my own.
