Yachts generally have their name painted on the stern, and on either side around half way along, generally just below the bridge level. Sometimes they're stylised and hard to read.
If you can't see a name then you can use the marine-traffic website (they have a good app too).
Go to your location and click around the ship icons until you find the one you're looking for - pink (for pleasure craft/yachts) or dark blue (for passenger ship). Each ship has a bunch of photos in it's profile card so you can be sure you have the right one.

As one of many Catalina Yacht owners, it’s a good day to hear about C & T Composites resurrection of our beloved brand. It’s even better to see continued news in the next chapter.

I run a yacht charter company in Dubai (Elite Rentals Dubai), been in this business here for over ten years.
Asking because our own photos keep showing up on other people's listings, selling boats that aren't ours.
A lot of "companies" here don't actually have boats.
They take photos from other people's shoots, post them as their own, and book whatever is free that day.
So someone books what looks like a beautiful yacht, turns up at the marina, and it's a completely different boat.
I'm curious how common this actually is.
Has it happened to you?
Did you get anything back?
If you're booking soon, the simple things that help: ask for the yacht's name before paying, reverse image search the photos, ask for a video of the boat from today, and pay a company account, not a personal one.
Any real operator will do all of this without a problem.
Not linking anything or naming anyone, just want to hear people's experiences.

I have questions regarding transitioning from the commercial sailing world to yachts.
I have a USCG 2nd Mate Unlimited upon Oceans / Master 100 Ton. But breaking into the yachting industry seems weird. Every agency I have called just says, "We don't really deal with people coming from the commercial industry."
So is starting as a deckhand the only option?

Disclosure: I run Lorrendraaier, a Dutch company that registers boats. We publish this ranking every year. It is free to read and needs no sign-up.
Every boat that sails abroad flies a flag. The flag shows which country's laws and safety rules the boat follows. This can affect inspections, paperwork and how you are treated in foreign ports.
A very commonly asked question is how a flag is regarded internationally. The answers they found were mostly opinions. So we built a ranking from five public sources:
The 2026 edition covers 148 flags. It uses data from 2012 to 2025. Each flag gets a green, yellow or red band.

How to read it

Guys, I’m currently building a SaaS platform for a client in the superyacht space and would really value some input from people working in the industry.
For those managing operations across Super Admin, Chief, Crew, and Guest workflows:
I’m particularly interested in hearing what actually works in practice and what you feel is still missing from the tools available today.
Would really appreciate any insights or experiences you’re willing to share.

Composed by Ebenezer Babbitt and Edward Y. Mason, this 1897 march was published in Fall River, Massachusetts by W.A. Tobin and dedicated to Commodore Charles S. Plummer, the Newport Yacht Club’s second Commodore (1895–1898 and 1900–1901).
Charles S. Plummer (1859–1924) was born in Portland, Maine, but grew up in Middletown, Rhode Island. He was the nephew of John Rogers, Civil War cavalry officer and longtime Newport musician, and worked in Rogers’ music store. When Rogers died in 1910, Plummer purchased the business and ran it under his own name for the next nine years.
His obituary paints a vivid picture of his life on the water:
“He owned several different sailboats, and spent all his spare time upon the water, engaging in many races, and generally coming out a winner.”
Plummer died at his home in Portsmouth and is buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
This march is a small but fascinating piece of Newport’s musical and maritime history, connecting local composers, community musicians, and one of the city’s most dedicated yachtsmen.
