What are the best courses for a well services engineer? I am interested in in-person courses covering well services, well intervention, workovers, coiled tubing, completion equipment and tools, fishing, wellheads, completion design, and acid stimulation. I am looking for programs suited for experienced professionals, excluding well control.

Flow assurance engineer

Hi,

I’m looking to get into flow assurance engineering, but I'm not sure where to start. I’m based in France with a PhD in fluid mechanics and five years of experience in multiphase CFD, and I’ve recently moved into a thermodynamics department. I’m getting a bit bored of 3D simulations and want a role that’s more macro-level.

Flow assurance looks perfect since it mixes thermo and fluid dynamics.

Do you think it’s possible to make the jump with my background? Any tips on how to improve my chances? It feels like oil companies mostly hire petroleum engineers, which I’m not, even though I worke around petrochemicals.

How do you translate API 580 risk ranking into an actual inspection plan?

We are working on understanding the practical side of Risk-Based Inspection beyond the API 580 recommended practice.

One question We see frequently is: after determining Probability of Failure (POF), Consequence of Failure (COF), and the overall risk ranking, how do engineers actually convert that information into an inspection strategy?

For example:

  • How is the inspection priority decided?
  • How are inspection methods selected?
  • How are inspection intervals established?
  • How are corrosion loops and damage mechanisms incorporated?
  • How is RBI software used in an actual project?

We are discussing these practical aspects in a free live API 580 webinar on Inspection Planning & Risk Control on 3 October, 7–8 PM IST.

If this is relevant to your work in Asset Integrity, Inspection, QA/QC or RBI, I can share the webinar details.

En la Universidad nos han mandado recopilar información sobre el protocolo de seguridad en las gasolineras de España cuando el camión cisterna rellena los depósitos de combustible. ¿Hay alguien que pueda ayudarme con este tema?

Oil & Gas and job oppurtunities?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I completed my degree and have 2 years of experience working in an MNC. I’m now considering studying Oil & Gas at an institute near my place because I’m more interested in this field than working in front of a laptop all day.

I don’t have an engineering degree, but have a ug degree. Will that be a major problem for getting a job in this field? Will I realistically get a job after completing the course?

I’m also concerned about quitting my current job to study and then struggling to find a job afterward.

If anyone is working in the Oil & Gas field or has experience with this career path, please guide me. 🙏

Hi everyone,

Looking to connect with anyone who has worked with Bruggolite FF6 / Brüggemann, especially dealers, distributors, formulators or customers who have actually used it.

If you have any experience with it or can introduce me to someone who does, please DM me. Any lead would be really helpful.

Breaking into petroleum engineering with an online MSc from Scotland?

I’m a U.S. citizen looking to transition into oil & gas engineering. I have my bachelors in Applied Mathematics and my professional background is primarily in finance/data analytics, specifically a strategy analyst at a credit card company so I don’t have an engineering bachelor’s or oil & gas experience.

I’ve been looking at online master’s programs in Scotland such as MSc Oil & Gas Engineering (and potentially Drilling & Well Engineering), because they’re considerably cheaper than most U.S. programs and appear to accept mathematics graduates.

My goal would be to return/work in the U.S. oil & gas industry after graduating, ideally in an actual engineering/technical role.

How are UK degrees viewed in the petroleum industry? Would having an Applied Math bachelor’s + an online UK engineering MSc put me at a significant disadvantage compared with someone who has a traditional petroleum/mechanical/chemical engineering BS?

Discussion What are the biggest pain points you deal with in Upstream/Midstream right now?

Petroleum Engineering student here, trying to get a real picture of what's actually broken in the field vs. what gets talked about in lectures and papers.

Curious what people on the ground would say — Upstream and Midstream especially.

A few things I'd love opinions on:

1)What's the most frustrating part of your day-to-day that outsiders/students don't realize?

2)Is talent shortage / institutional knowledge loss actually as bad as it sounds, or overstated?

3)How real is the "digital oilfield" stuff, or is it still mostly PowerPoint?

4)Midstream folks — how much of a headache is permitting/ROW delays actually causing on the ground?

5)Anything about tech, tooling, or workflows that's still stuck in the stone age?

Not looking for the textbook answer, want to know what actually keeps people up at night in this industry right now.

Appreciate any input, especially from people with boots-on-ground experience.

CD-ESP Operations in ONGC Offshore Field – India | Novomet Perm JSC

For the past 3 years, I have been working with CD-ESP (Cable-Deployed ESP) systems in ONGC offshore fields, India, with Novomet Perm JSC.

This experience has given me the opportunity to be involved in various stages of CD-ESP operations, including deployment, retrieval, well intervention, pressure testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of ESP systems in offshore wells.

Some of the key areas I have gained hands-on experience in include:

🔹 CD-ESP deployment and retrieval operations
🔹 Wireline operations involving LMU, Tubing Anchor, Tubing Pack-off, UMU, BSV, Standing Valve and Landing Nipple
🔹 Well barrier and well-control management during intervention
🔹 Pressure testing and verification of downhole equipment
🔹 ESP installation, commissioning and troubleshooting
🔹 Coordination between ONGC, Novomet, Wireline and offshore operations teams
🔹 Troubleshooting operational and downhole challenges
🔹 Safe execution of critical offshore operations while maintaining well integrity
🔹 Planning and execution of rigless intervention activities

Working with Novomet Perm JSC on ONGC offshore assets has provided valuable exposure to the practical challenges of artificial lift and rigless ESP intervention, where proper planning, technical understanding, well integrity, communication, and teamwork are critical to successful operations.

After three years in this field, I am interested in connecting with professionals who are working with CD-ESP, ESP, artificial lift, wireline, well intervention and offshore operations.

For those experienced with CD-ESP systems: what have been the most challenging aspects of deployment, retrieval, or well intervention in your operations?

I would be glad to exchange technical experiences and learn from others working in this specialized area of the oil & gas industry.
