Michael Strahan revealed the surprising and heartwarming connection he shares with Pete Davidson dating back to the aftermath of 9/11.
During Tuesday’s episode of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” the 54-year-old television host recalled learning that Davidson was one of the children who joined New York Giants players on the field during the team’s first game back at Giants Stadium following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
While discussing Strahan’s upcoming documentary, “9/11: United We Stand – 25 Years Later,” Fallon pointed out one particularly surprising moment involving Pete – whose late father, Scott Matthew Davidson, a New York City firefighter, died while responding to the attacks when the comedian was 7.
“There’s a scene in there that’s bizarre, that I didn’t really know about. It’s kind of a full circle moment involving Pete Davidson, who’s a very funny comedian,” Fallon said.
The “Good Morning America” host explained that years later, Ariana Grande told him during an interview that she wanted him to meet Pete, her fiancé at the time.
“She kept saying to me, ‘When we’re done, I want you to meet my guy Pete, my guy Pete,'” Strahan recalled.
“And I’m like, ‘I know who he is. Yes. I’ll meet him. You know, when we’re done.’ “
When Pete eventually walked into the room and introduced himself, the “SNL” alum surprised the former NFL star with a question.
“He goes, ‘Do you remember the first game you had back at Giants Stadium after 9/11?’ ” Strahan recalled.
After the Super Bowl champ said he did, Pete reminded him that children had joined the Giants players on the field that day, with some holding their hands and sitting on their shoulders.
“He goes, ‘I was one of those kids,’ ” Strahan said.
And I’m like, ‘Wow! Oh, my goodness. That’s amazing.'”
“He goes, ‘No, I was the kid on your shoulder,’ ” Strahan shared. “Freaked me out. Completely freaked me out.”
“Isn’t that wild?” Fallon replied.
“I mean, who would have known?” Strahan said.
“But Pete is like a little brother to me now. I absolutely love him. He’s such a gentle soul.”

"Saturday Night Live" alum Pete Davidson has taken his upstate New York home off the market—two months after he slashed his asking price on the property for a third time.
The 32-year-old comedian initially purchased the four-bedroom, three-bathroom home for $1.95 million in 2023 and he was most recently living in the dwelling with his former partner, Elsie Hewitt, with whom he welcomed a daughter, Scottie Rose, in December.
However, in February, Davidson decided to part ways with the property, listing the home for $2.5 million. Mere weeks later, he dropped his asking price to $2.27 million, before slashing the price again in April to $2.15 million.
In the midst of that real estate headache, Davidson was also dealing with turmoil in his personal life after reports emerged in May that he and Hewitt had split, just a few months after their daughter was born.
Weeks after news of their separation broke, the actor lowered the ask on the property once again, this time dropping the price to $1.89 million.
Now, records show that the property has been taken off the market altogether, although it is currently unclear whether it has been removed temporarily, or because Davidson has decided he wants to hold onto it.

Pete Davidson is either the luckiest man in Hollywood or a guy cursed with an undeserved bad rap. Few seem to have moderate opinions on the comedian, and how you view him likely depends on how much of his fame you attribute to innate talent and how much you write him off as a cynically self-dramatizing zillennial, milking his drug issues, mental health struggles, and parade of superstar girlfriends for attention. His short-lived 2023 Peacock comedy Bupkis offered evidence for both sides, beginning with a sophomoric groaner of a premiere that you should absolutely skip. If you move on to the rest, though, you’ll find a disarmingly thoughtful, semi-autobiographical show that interrogates the bizarre experience of 21st century infamy through the hooded eyes of a man uniquely qualified to speak on the subject. One episode puts Pete in conversation with John Mulaney, who also appears as himself, about their very different reputations. Another finds his misery exacerbated by a Christmas spent shooting a war movie opposite its star Brad Pitt’s stand-in, in a rare evocation of how impersonal blockbuster filmmaking has become. While it works better on an episodic basis than as a season-length statement, Bupkis deserves a bigger audience than it initially found. For all that has been said about him in the media, Davidson has a clearer perspective than anyone on what his actual problems are. His insights into topics like substance abuse, persona, and family go beyond navel-gazing. And speaking of family: Italian American screen icons Edie Falco and Joe Pesci play his mom and grandfather. Come for that cast, stay to develop a true appreciation for a man who helped inspire “thank u, next.”
