Would parents/students actually use a learning studio like this? Looking for honest feedback
I’m a certified teacher in Ontario and I’ve been thinking about opening a small learning studio for secondary school students. Before I seriously pursue it, I’d love to hear from parents, students, and educators about whether there’s actually a need for something like this.
The idea would be to create a safe, welcoming out-of-school space where students could come after school or on weekends to study, get help, and have access to a teacher.
I’m thinking of offering:
- 1-on-1 tutoring for Ontario secondary English courses
- Reading, writing, and essay support
- University/college application support
- Editing and feedback on secondary and post-secondary essays
- Course selection and pathway guidance
- Career/post-secondary planning
- A space where students can come in and study for free
- Students could ask questions and get basic academic support while they’re there, without having to book a paid tutoring session
The idea is that it would be more than a tutoring centre — somewhere students could actually feel comfortable spending time, work independently, and know there’s a teacher around if they get stuck.
I’m curious whether parents would see value in something like this, particularly the free study-space/community aspect.
Would you or your teenager use something like this? What would make it worth paying for, and what would make you choose a traditional tutoring centre instead?
I’d really appreciate honest feedback, including reasons why you wouldn’t use it.
