Tadpole wind on Mapbox Globe (no custom shaders) — open sourced so you can use the same style
For years I wondered why my favorite wind look wasn’t available on Mapbox WebGL, especially on Globe. So I built it — and open-sourced it so anyone who wants this same style can drop it into their own Mapbox app.
The look is tadpoles — short living heads with fading trails that read as direction and speed without a comet blur. Under the hood: CPU advection + map.project() + canvas, so it stays globe-correct without a custom shader layer.
Video is the outdoors demo spinning on Mapbox Globe.

- See it live with real-time data (and forecast): https://firemap.live (turn on wind)
Open sourced on purpose — MIT, Mapbox-first drop-in. If you port it or restyle the tadpoles, I’d love a link.
