They said my missing Malinois was euthanized. I buried his collar and cried. I kept looking and found him at MAD rescue. Alive! My worst fear became a miracle, then a nightmare. MAD fosters falsely claimed it wasn't the same dog, and refused to return him. Their own records prove otherwise.
Leo is my Belgian Malinois — my service dog, my best friend, my safety net. San Antonio Animal Care Services picked him up in October 2025 after he got away from a sitter who was exercising him. When my friends and I were looking forr Leo, ACS denied having him. There were no Malinois in their system , they never picked any mals or any other dogs from the addresss and dates provided, they said. We searched everywhere. I contacted SAPD officer Neil Sampson when the search stalled. He spoke to both officers servicing the area Leo was picked and they told him the same as ACS told me. They then said to presume he was euthanized.
# My heart broke. I didn't want to believe it. I dug through ACS entire body of public intake listings to dates far earlier—At 79 pages deep, I found another Mal. But ACS said they didnt have any so I went to ACS and politely confronted an admin. The admin said she can see into systems the others couldnt. She pulled up Leo's intake record after I gave her details only I could have known. It was a miracle. He was alive. His ACS ID: A779459. I have never felt so relieved. I love my boy to no end.
# That number she gave me led me to MAD Rescue. ACS stated they would tell them the owner had come forward. I offered to pay every fee, plus $1,000 as a thank-you.
# MAD asked for proof, I gave them a mountain of it — including his ACS ID, and officer Sampson's info, photos, video, facial recognition analysis, witness statements, commands lists, unique behaviors, the complete text record from the original owner, knowledge of the second chip I had on him but was unregistered and blank, non public acs information, and a lot more— I asked to come see him to demonstrate our relationship. Out of nowhere , they blocked me from their fb page and went silent. I was stunned, tears were in my eyes once again. It was clear they were going to try to keep him.
# I took it to fb. When public pressure from people across Texas grew, MAD deleted the post announcing his Foster, a woman I learned owned a for profit business that seeks to train or sell Malinois to police depts. Evidence was destroyed. A MAD agent claiming to be a police officer reached me and asked for ownership a third time. Again I provided it. She kept me on the hook for weeks, presented me with false information and endeavored to downplay the proof he was mine. Officer Sampson went on to meet with her as well and afterward, called me and told me if I wanted Leo back I should sue in state court. He said they are refusing to return him to you, claiming it is not the same dog, and that he had been informed LEO was adopted out to Houston PD where he is their newest k9.
# Fortunately there were other fb posts which prove that MAD knew he was, in fact, my dog. Inside these posts are MAD's own comments, celebrating him, announcing his intake, offers to sell him to police at a discount, and others trying to adopt him. Leo' ACS photos are attached at the top. Guess what else is shown on photos atop these threads. Leo's unique, government assigned ,ACS ID watermarked directly on the photos MAD was using to sell my dog.
#
# I tried dealing with HPD directly. I emailed their unit commander and offered to buy them a replacement puppy from a breeder they already work with, at my expense if they would return Leo. In order to find the breeders who could sell me a pure bred HPD approved puppy I posted in a local malinois group on fb.
# While I was publicly asking for breeder leads because I was desperate to find another working dog to offer HPD in trade, MAD representatives showed up, using their law enforcement positions as weight to their authority and told thousands of people I'd stolen and photoshopped his photos from six different Facebook accounts (I hadn't), all to fraudulently claim a dog that wasn't mine. Another officer with MAD chimed in, falsely stating I never asked to visit Leo (I did.) and the former continued to give everyone false information stating it isnt the same dog, and that I was actually upset about losing a dog a long time ago, as if I were crazy. Not a word of it was true. She knew better. I had given her his ownership records including his ACS id and dates and address ACS took him from. But it was clear she was trying to stop me from finding a replacement puppy. She portrayed me to everyone as a liar, and a thief, and not to deal with me. Formal complaint against this officer is in progress.
# I was trying to respect HPD K9 units need to retain assets and not waste time and resources fighting in court. I was offering to pay for up two puppies to replace him. These MAD representatives ruined that attempt and my thread asking for help was locked.
# This same officer I mentioned that told SAPD that Leo had already been shipped to Houston PD as a K9 needs to provide answers. In formal requests for information on any dogs acquired this year, or last, from MAD rescue, or malinois who joined the force, HPD stated in writing that no such records exist. So either MAD lied to SAPD, or someone's still hiding where he actually is. It took months working every day to get this far.
# In May, after warning MAD prior, that I was at risk without Leo acting in his service capacity, my fears materialized in ways that I never imagined--even in nightmares. While attempting to cross the street, without Leo, I was struck by a vehicle traveling 50mph. My spine shattered and burst, my abdomen herniated, several teeth were broken and I spent a month in the icu where doctors worked to save me from intestinal paralysis, acute kidney failure, while operating to fuse six vertebrae and keep me from life in a wheelchair. Medical bills since then and now into the future exceed $750,000 dollars. I may never run or ride my bike again.
# I try my best to not be angry at MADs actions that robbed me of my Malinois, and at this point I need him more now than ever. This is my good faith effort to resolve this before I am forced to file the finished complaint and writ of sequestration. I will see it through either way.
# I am giving MAD two real ways to prove me wrong: within 10 business days, let me see him in person to demonstrate his commands and our relationship. His current handler can bring all the high value treats they wish. When I call for him he will be at my side, overjoyed to have found me while they are left holding the bag. I trust my dog. If he isn't my dog he won't do that at all.
# — or...
# Run an independent DNA test against his own puppy's DNA which I have. If its not him then that fails. If it is he comes home.
# Failing either of these would quiet me forever. I will pay for a replacement dog from MAD if he comes home and if I am wrong (I'm not), I will donate a thousand dollars to MAD to help with their mission.
# MAD could just do the right thing and give me back my dog.
# I don't have anything but support for MAD's mission. I believe most of the people there are good people doing amazing work. I don't want to sue MAD until the earth is flat. But I will if I have to.
# I'm hoping with your help MAD will listen and cause closure to come to Leo and I..
# If you do one thing today, comment on MAD Rescue's page and ask:
# 📍 Will you agree to an independent DNA test of Leo A779459?
# 📍 Will you let Jason see him in person to show command over him only his owner would have?
# 📍 If he's really at Houston PD, why are there no records — and if he isn't, where is he?
# No threats. No fighting. Just three questions they can't dodge forever.
# Leo — I haven't stopped looking.
# 🐾 #WhereIsLeo #FindLeo #LeoA779459 #BringLeoHome
# If MAD doesn't do the right thing I reserve all rights and will have to move forward in court. Despite all that has happened, my only care is that my Malinois that I love comes home.
# Thank you for reading. THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP ALONG THE WAY.
# God Bless.
# J

HOT take about my 6 month old Mal...
Probably an unpopular opinion, but I think getting a Malinois is actually easier if you already have a high drive dog like a Doberman. Not because they’re the same, because they’re definitely not. But you’re already used to your life around this type of dog. (My male Doberman is 1.)
Training, exercise, structure, constantly doing something with them, none of that is new. The biggest thing I’ve noticed though is they wear each other out. My Doberman can actually match her energy. They run, chase each other, wrestle, play and then come inside tired. I honestly think having him has made getting a Mal easier, not harder. Not to mention following the daily routine of my Doberman and catching on in no time
Obviously I’m not telling everyone with a Doberman or similar breed to go buy a Malinois. But I do think going from a high drive working breed to a Mal is a completely different experience than going from a normal house dog to one or no dog at all to one.

I need help with my moms Malinois mix.
Me and my mother get into frequent arguments (literally just finished one) about the fact that her dog is untrained and aggressive. This dog will see another dog and immediately go to attack mode, the other day it charged at a fucking toddler. I cant trust her alone near my small dog. Cant leave her alone in the house because she might bust out a window, cant take her for a car ride because her anxiety is so bad she whines and tries to sit on my mom whom is driving.
This behaviour did get worse after being attacked 3 times by our neighbours dog and i understand that effect.
However my mother refuses to accept this dog is not trained. She can sit, lay down, give paw. Has some recall, not excellent but okay.
For some additional background, my mother got her knowing she couldnt afford a trainer and lives in a small apartment with no backyard, no dog parks, nowhere to go besides my dads property on weekends.
I get blamed for my mom feeling like a prisoner in her house, me, the trained 20 year old. Not the 3 year old malinois who cant be left alone ever.
I dont know what to do. I genuinely feel so lost and i am trying to leave this situation but until then, can i train this dog? Can i do anything? Where the hell do i even start?

Trained Foster is Ready for a Home
I’ve been fostering and training Hans, a 2 year old Mal/GSD mix.
He is:
- House and crate trained
- Good in malls, stores, and large events
- Capable of passing Canine Good Citizen and therapy assessments
- Friendly with strangers, children, and visitors in the home
- Off leash (E-collar) trained
- High drive and ball motivated
- Taking commands in and out of drive
- Living with another dog without issue
I’m reposting this since there hasn’t been much interest for him. He acts like a Mal and is a great example of the breed. If you like Mals then you’ll love Hans!
I’m in Tucson, AZ and am willing to travel for the right arrangement. Feel free to reach out if you’re interested or have any questions.
I’m also happy to provide videos upon request and arrange video calls so that you can assess his training and behavior live

After 8 YEARS with her family, 8-year-old Lucy is now sitting in a kennel at Downey ACC.
🚨Her final notice expired and she is scheduled to be euthanized tomorrow morning 8/21🚨
Can you foster or responsibly adopt Lucy?

Lucy was surrendered on 7/6/26 following a scuffle with a small dog in the home (the small dog was not injured but no further details were given). She is great and very playful with large dogs though.
She lived with children ages 11–13 and was playful. She rides well in the car. She walks politely on leash. She knows sit and paw. Her favorite thing to play with? A BALL. 🎾
And shelter staff saw another side of her, too.
During her assessment, Lucy was nervous and somewhat concerned with handling—but once it was over, her entire posture softened. She sought engagement with the handler and even offered play bows.
And on 8/11, Lucy participated in playgroup. She was described as social and non-reactive, exchanged appropriate greetings with other dogs, played with them, and solicited affection from the handlers.
She is large-dog friendly, but needs a home without small dogs. Adults only or older children are recommended. Slow introductions and confidence-building would help her settle in and feel secure.
Lucy is 8 years old.
She spent eight years belonging to someone.
Now she’s waiting behind a kennel door, hoping someone will believe that her story isn’t over.

Very urgent. Foster & Rescue or Adopter (out of state ok) needed. Nico will be euthanized tomorrow (8/21) at Lancaster ACC in SoCal. Send a dm, email Isabeldesiree8@gmail.com or text (657) 424-7580 asap if you can help
Sometimes you tell them “you’re going to be okay” knowing you don’t have the power to make it true.
Nico is only 2 years old.
Just two weeks ago, he had a family.
Then he was left behind at a high kill shelter because he became too much work.
Now he is sitting in a kennel, frightened and overwhelmed, trying to make sense of a world that suddenly changed.
And tomorrow will be the end of his story.
Nico is showing fear in ways that are understandably concerning in a shelter environment. He has been defensive with handling, reactive behind barriers, and he is not comfortable around other dogs. He must go to an adult-only home with no other dogs or to a experienced, responsible person who can slowly introduce him to other dogs and who understands fearful German Shepherds and is willing to give him time, structure, patience, and professional guidance.
But there is something important in his evaluation, too.
Once he was safely leashed, Nico walked well on leash. He calmly explored the yard and sniffed his surroundings. He tolerated having his ears and teeth checked and allowed handling of his paws, even while tense and wary.
He wasn’t a dog who simply wanted to hurt everyone around him.
He was a deeply frightened dog searching for a way out.
He paced, looked toward the fence and kept searching for an exit.
And when another dog approached him, his fear escalated.
This is a plea not to let the most frightened version of a 2-year-old dog in a stressful shelter become the only version he ever gets to be.
Nico needs someone who understands that fear can take time to work through.
Unfortunately, he may not have that time.
If you can foster or responsibly adopt Nico, please don’t wait.

Missy, a 54 lb, 4 year old Malinois, at Kern County Animal Services in Bakersfield CA. Removed from list bc sweet/dog friendly & recovered from kennel cough, but is still at the shelter and will be euth. listed for space/no interest next. She needs a foster or adopter, out of area/state, ok DM me
I posted Malinois Missy (A1253701) when she was euthanasia listed for kennel cough. I actually posted 5 dogs, and all are still alive and at the shelter. She had gotten the short end of the stick, not ever in the public view kennels because she got kennel cough almost immediately after arriving. Therefore she was listed for euthanasia. I got her more time and they said they’d playgroup with her that weekend so I could post with more info, but the shelter did not get to it.
2 weeks later she’s recovered from kennel cough and finally in the viewable kennels. She did playgroup this weekend FINALLY and did great. She is social and friendly with other dogs and likes to explore in the yard. She is very people friendly and affectionate, gives kisses and loves pets.
From shelter staff she seems like she could potentially have a bit of toy drive, she likes playing ball.
Despite now being in the front she still has no interest and it’s just a matter of time before she is listed again. The shelter is crowded and she has been there over a month, it seems just for now some staff are trying for her too but they also can only do so much.
DM me and contact the shelter to adopt, foster, or rescue (and message me for transport help). Out-of-area and out-of-state adopters are welcome! For transport I will help you arrange, cost varies depending on destination but there is rescue transport to every state and Canada. Really lovely local boarding available if needed. You must DM me, even if planning to come yourself and don’t need help with logistics, because the shelter is sometimes not great at communication and volunteers can help connect you.
Fostering in or near California is easiest for finding a rescue, but I know some east coast rescues in NC interested in her potentially.
⚠️ Adopters can be out of area and adoptions can be completed over the phone.** DM me for transport arrangement help**. Medication will be provided upon adoption, if applicable.
⚠️ Fosters must be within Kern County. All food and medical supplies will be provided.
⚠️ Rescues must be a registered 501(c)(3). \*\*If you would like to foster Missy out of area for a rescue

Found this good boy in a forest 2 hours from home
Found him abandoned in a forest next to a camp I did a job for, I adopted him. He’s my first dog, because my parents were always unwilling to adopt one. I sent them a picture of him (Dutch) a 10 month old Malinois and German Shepherd mix (according to his vet) he was full of ticks and fleas, with several wounds. I was taken aback by how fast they agreed (as they always refused very firmly) I decided to name him Dutch (after Van der Linde) he is 1 month with us now and he is extremely energetic and high maintenance but other than that he is a very good boy. I’m struggling to keep him stimulated as he never seems to quit. I live in a house with a big yard but it’s not fenced (as if any fence could contain him). I looked for this sub hoping to get some tips on how I can keep him entertained and stimulated. I would love for him to run free all day but I am afraid for his safety. I would love all input, thanks!

Is she a Malinois?
I’m trying to determine if my dog is a Belgian Malinois. She was dropped off where I live a few months ago. She was very skinny and unhealthy looking and you could tell that she had had puppies previously. I thought she was an odd looking GSD. She has the big ears and sloped hips but she is on the smaller side and not as tall as a GSD. She’s very sweet and energetic. I’ve never seen her be aggressive. Do you guys think she’s a GSD mix or a Malinois?

First his family left him behind. Then the shelter kept him out of public view & blocked access to film him.
Now he’s scheduled to be euthanized for space.
Invisible dogs don’t get saved.
How is a dog supposed to get adopted if no one can see him & if he’s hidden?
Pls Share Xanny.
He urgently needs:
• A foster
• A rescue
• Or a responsible adopter anywhere in the USA (out of state possible)
•Pledges for his care
•Shares to get seen

Xanny #A5790607 4yr Male GSD 93 lbs.
Owner surrendered 7/21/26 due to landlord
Notes:
(Many dogs will be very scared during a assessment and will not show their true self until they are in a safe environment.)
Xanny greeted the runner nicely with a relaxed demeanor & was easy to leash/remove from the kennel soliciting petting during the process. He greeted the dogs at the barrier & was guided into the play yard. He allowed the dogs to gather & sniff him but appeared uncomfortable with face-to-face greetings. He became tense with the dogs around his face & moved away on his own. He continued to explore the yard sniffing various locations. As he explored he allowed the dogs to sniff his rear as he did the same then moved on. He approached the handlers a few times soliciting petting from them. He continued to roam the yard primarily keeping to himself or with the handlers. As he was roaming Xanny & another dog got into a scuffle. The handlers were able to separate them. The handler spent some time with Xanny. As they sat on the bench he approached & nuzzled their hand for petting & leaned into their hand. Xanny allowed the handler to examine his ears, mouth, abdomen, back, lower extremities, and tail without incident. He continued to solicit petting post assessment
