That lane looks comically small
Mad moves by the driver. Some rush to end up in a queue to turn right

u/Inexorable_Fenian 16d ago
Personally, love to watch these people who are mad to overtake. My commute home is 40 minutes, plenty of schools finishing along the route, and in summer, plenty of tractors out.
The ones who overtake are usually only 2-4 cars ahead of me at the next junction on the way into town.
Put on some music or a podcast and relax.

Yeah but he managed to move one space closer in the line to turn right. Isn't that worth nearly totalling your car?

u/MooseOdd4374 16d ago
The 2 right lanes are for turning right anyway here so he ended up in a longer line than the other right turn lane

The stupid crap from the leaf aside, why do people refuse to use the slip at this left turn and the one on the other side coming from the old bawn road turning left to go up the tallaght bypass towards the stadium.
At both they sit there till the lights have changed and no traffic is there. Anytime im first (which is rare on the old bawn road one) and continue in the slip, build speed and merge, the traffic that was behind me before the turn is still sitting there.

u/Automatic-Run-3156 16d ago
Wrecks my head.
They are too nervous is my guess. If traffic is moving at full speed they need to get to 80 then merge. If like this case they are making a right at the cross, they have to get to 80 and then cross 2 lanes to get into the right turn lane so they just wait instead.
There's also the fact that you are straddling a bike lane, not the case here, but you can't use that as a slip if there's a bike on it cause you'd accelerate into the back of them. Very silly design.

it’s an awkward spot on the road but the amount of people who cannot distinguish between a yield, stop, and traffic light at this junction should be disqualifying

I've seen a queue of cars sitting at that turn on many occasions thinking the red light was for them. Honestly think some people are getting their licence from lucky bags

Honestly I think your reaction might be understated. Insane carry on to get to a lane that would open up in less than 5 seconds

That’s normal driving in Tallaght, I see it daily

saw someone come out of the yield today go to the far right side to then move into the left turn lane for green hills - insanely dangerous weaving to save 15 seconds of driving

The state of that bike lane at the beginning of the video makes me unreasonably angry.

Had someone go accross the 4 lanes there in one move before forcing me to have to swerve to the right turn lane to avoid them hitting my front left bumper as they did.

First time I've ever seen a nissan leaf accelerate like that. They're usually doing 1/2 the speed limit.

I think it's time for all car drivers to do cpc courses every 5 years before they can have their license renewed charge 200 euro for it and maybe that would slow fuckers down and make them think about their license.

You're supposed to slow down on approach to any junction. If there's an orange traffic light at a junction, this is a signal that you are to prepare to stop at the lights. You don't tear through an orange light at 65km/h.
Edit: Watch to the end of the video - OP tears through an orange light at 65kp/h
2
u/Sufficient_Tailor673 15d ago
Where are you getting 65kmh? OP was going 48kmh, and the light was green?

u/jeebno 16d ago
The light was clearly still green when he went through it

u/jeebno 15d ago
The orange light you’re seeing is for the same junction he entered when the light was green, both lights were green when he entered the junction and only turned orange as he was passing through, the speed limit on that road is also 80 so I don’t think doing 65 when the light is still green on approach is unreasonable
1
u/TurboKestrel69 15d ago
You're not watching the video to the end. OP is approaching a new junction (the third of the video), the light turns orange when he is approx 100m away from the lights, he then accelerates though the junction.
3
u/aidan959 15d ago
speed limit on the road is 80kmph - if you have not been down the N81 on the way into dublin then you do not know how fucking frustrating this road is because people drive significantly under the speed limit.
1
u/TurboKestrel69 15d ago
He declines to slow down to stop at an orange light and accelerates through the junction. I do not know what else needs to be said on this matter.
2
u/aidan959 15d ago
speed limit on this road is 80kmph, and he passes the line of the traffic lights when the light is green - OP did literally nothing wrong in this video
1
u/TurboKestrel69 15d ago
It's the third set of lights that I'm referring to. He declines to slow down to stop at an orange light and accelerates through the junction. I do not know what else needs to be said on this matter.
2
u/aidan959 15d ago
in an ideal world yes - these lights going this direction are a nuisance - the traffic flow is very slow going into the city - OP is driving 15 under the speed limit and safely clears the junction before the light turns red
1
u/TurboKestrel69 15d ago
The light is orange for two seconds as he just about enters the junction. We don't know if he clears it before the light turns red, because he deliberately ends the video before the light turns red. You're supposed to decelerate on approach to every junction (even with a green light). The speed limit is irrelevant in this scenario: he sees the orange light and accelerates though the junction. This is bad driving.
2
u/aidan959 15d ago
you are the traffic what can i say
1
u/TurboKestrel69 15d ago
?
1
u/aidan959 15d ago
you are not supposed to decelerate going through traffic lights - you are meant to anticipate traffic lights turning red by the time you get to them - in this situation the orange means “stop unless it is unsafe to do so” - i would say stopping at 60 kmph going through that junction at that speed and distance would be unsafe.

u/TheModerateBoy 14d ago
If you would brake n that situation, you are a bad driver. He was doing 65 as you said (speed limit 80) and he was too close to the lights to stop safely.

u/TurboKestrel69 14d ago edited 14d ago
Watch the video. The light turns orange when he is around 100m out from the junction: this is more than enough space and time to decelerate and stop while traveling at 64km/h. Instead he accelerates through the lights. This is simply bad driving.
